Rating: Summary: GREAT IDEA! SUGAR IS THE PROBLEM! Review: My brother recently died of a heart attack and complications from diabetes. I know that I am on the same path if I do not change my ways of eating. I just bought this book and I really feel that eliminating sugar from my diet would be fantastic but I always get cravings. I am going to start though and I will post my results in a month. If anyone has encouragement for me, please feel free to E-mail me at the address listed. I would love to hear how anyone overcame their cravings and if you really have to give up morning caffinated coffee. I hope this works...
Rating: Summary: excellent so far Review: I have been on the Sugar Busters plan for a week and have lost 7 LBS. I like Sugar Busters because it is not a diet... It is a way of life. I never developed good eaating habits as a child and that is why this book is so good for me. I have totally lost my craving for sugar and sweets and I am now longing for fruit and cheese etc. Anyone who gives Sugar Busters a chance will like the results. It has also made me feel healthier and I know I am going to be healthier because of Sugar Busters!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Simpler than most "diets", making you more likely to do it Review: Although I can't say I've tried a lot of the different diets, I've read and researched most of them (usually to discover there's NO WAY I could maintain that lifestyle...). I have done Weight Watchers, with much success, but haven't been motivated to get back into it. Also looked seriously at the Zone and found some of the principles to make sense, but, again, not a "way of eating" I could continue. And that, for me, is the greatest thing about SugarBusters!. With WW and the Zone both, my focus was ALWAYS on food. What would my next meal be? How many (squares/points/blocks/whatever) would it be? How many would I have left? Have I gotten enough of this? Have I overdone it on that? "Gee, it's 3 o'clock and ALL I have left are veggies..." or "Gee, it's 8 o'clock and I've eaten nothing but veggies -- better get the rest in..." With SB, I have none of that. I'm hungry, I eat. I know I can't eat to my heart's content, but, interestingly enough, I get and stay full much easier. I make good choices in my foods, but I don't worry if it has "too many carbs per serving" (if they're the right kind) or "exactly" what one serving is or if it's combined with all the right things. I just eat. And then I move on with my life until I'm hungry again. Basically, this is the only "diet" I've found that hasn't made me MORE obsessed with food.
Rating: Summary: VERY INFORMATIONAL, BUT HARD TO BELIEVE I CAN EAT PEANUT BUT Review: I WISH I COULD ASK THESE DOCTORS A FEW QUESTIONS THAT WERE NOT ANWSERED IN THE BOOK. LIKE, IS IT OK TO HAVE A PIECE OF TOAST W/PEANUT BUTTER (WHOLE GRAIN TOAST ) AND A BOWL OF POST SHERREDEDWHEAT CEREAL. THEN FOR LUNCH HAVE 1 SLICE OF WHOLE WHEAT BREAD? THEN FOR DINNER HAVE A SWEET POTATO? IS THAT TOO MUCH OF A "GOOD" THING? I DO INCLUDE OTHER FOODS ALONG WITH THE FOODS MENTIONED ABOVE, WHICH ARE LOW INDEX FOODS.
Rating: Summary: I'm a believer! ! Review: At age 48 and after three years on hormone replacement therapy and gaining about 27 pounds during that time, I was getting desperate. I had tried everything that had always worked for me before to lose a few pounds. But, since my metabolism had changed so much, nothing worked. I had started a new exercise program in March that included walking three miles a day five days a week and lifting weights twice a week. I was building muscle and feeling great, except for the extra weight. One night while getting dinner, the CBS national news had a segment on Sugar Busters. I stopped what I was doing and listened. After thinking about it over night, I checked it out on Amazon.com and read the reviews. Next day I purchased the book and read it cover to cover. The book was written in a very understandable, no nonsense way. I now knew why my low-fat, high carbohyrate diet was preventing me from losing weight. I started the program on July 27 and lost 3 pounds the first week. The foods I chose were delicious and I never felt hungry or like I was being deprived. For someone who could not lose even one pound this was remarkable. Well it has now been 17 weeks and I am 19 pounds lighter and back into jeans I haven't be able to wear in a long time. Friends and family are starting to notice which makes me feel good. My muscles are becoming even more defined because I have continued the excerise program as well. I know this weight loss isn't as great as some of the other success stories I have read, but to me it's fantastic. I have about 8 more pounds to get back to where I was three years ago and hope to get down a little lower than that to improve my BMI (Body Mass Index). I don't know where I will level off, but I know I'll be able to stay there from now on. I could never have done it without Sugar Busters and want to say Thank You to the authors. You've changed my life.
Rating: Summary: Be Aware. Review: If you plan on making good exercise a part of your plan this diet might not be for you. I'm not really rating the book because it's benifits are based on the individual.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I have been dieting, it seems, since birth! Having always been obese I have tried every diet. I have even had my stomach stapled, which worked for a time but, if one does not understand what is going on in their body then success does elude. I have been on Sugarbusters! Since June 98 and have lost a total of 75 lbs. The book is right it is not a diet it is a lifestyle. I feel this is truly how I will eat the rest of my life, because now I understand my body and how it works. My many thanks to the authors, and a big Bravo for bucking the system.

Rating: Summary: MOST EXCELLENT FOOD PLAN I HAVE EVER BEEN ON Review: I HAVE SEE-SAWED UP AND DOWN ON THE SCALES SINCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. I'VE TRIED WEIGHT WATCHERS SEVERAL TIMES. AS WELL AS ALMOST EVERY OTHER DIET PLAN TO COME OUT. NOT UNTIL MY INTERNIST RECOMMENDED "SUGAR BUSTERS" HAVE I EVER HAD HOPE THAT I CAN CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE AND MY WAY OF EATING WITHOUT THE SACRAFICE OR HUNGER I'VE ALWAYS FELT ON ANY OTHER PLAN. THIS IS NOT JUST A DIET IT IS A LIFE STYLE CHANGE. MY HUSBAND, THE BORN SKEPTIC, WHO I NEVER WOULD OF THOUGHT WOULD CHANGE HIS CANDY EATING, SODA DRINKING, WHITE BREAD WAYS HAS YET TO DEVIATE FROM THIS MEAL PLAN. IT HAS BEEN THREE WEEKS AND HE HAS LOST ALMOST 15 POUNDS. I MYSELF HAVE LOST EIGHT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ THAT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND EXPLAINS EXACTLY THE HOW THE BODY PROCESSES WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH. I AM A DIABETIC WHICH IS WHY THIS BOOK WAS FIRST SUGESSTED TO ME, BUT SINCE BEING ON THE PLAN MY BLOOD SUGAR IS STAYING NEAR THE HIGH END OF NORMAL. I AM STILL ON ORAL MEDICATIONS BUT HOPE TO STOP THOSE IN A FEW MONTHS AS THE WEIGHT COMES OFF AND MY BODY REALLY BEGINS TO REAP THE HEALTHY BENEFITS OF THIS WONDERFUL BOOK. I WAS IN THE "FAT MAKES YOU FAT" MINDSET COUNDING FAT GRAMS, ETC. TO READ THIS BOOK MAKES YOU WONDER HOW SO MAY DOCTORS COULD BE SO FAR OFF WITH REGARD TO WHY WE ARE OVERWEIGHT, WHEN IT IS CLEARLY SUGAR THAT IS KILLING US. LABLE READING WILL REALLY OPEN YOUR EYES, THERE IS SUGAR EVERYWHERE. HEALTH FOOD STORS STOCK MANY THINGS WITH SUGAR, YOU NEED TO BE VERY CONSCIENCIOUS AND IT IS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO FIND WHAT YOU NEED , BUT IF THIS PLAN CAN DO WHAT IT HAS FOR MY FAMILY IN JUST THREE WEEKS, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT IT DOES IN SIX MONTHS, AND FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES!
