Then Sugar Busters...4 months and thirty pounds, I'm back to college weight and feel great. I'm eating more and enjoying the red wine part of the diet. Now I have no excuse to quite smoking. I've recommended and sent this book to 5 friends because it's so easy. One last tip, sugar free diet popsicles sure save the day at night!

Review: I am a physician, and am familiar with the pros and cons of many diets, including Adkins', high protein/low carb, 1000 cal regimens, you name it (my father was a well known local bariatrician). Two of my patients came in November with normalizing blood sugars, lower cholesterols, and weight loss. I bought Sugar Busters to try the diet and see what it was like. I don't follow it as faithfully as the book recommends, but I have lost seven pounds without caloric restriction or increasing my exercise, and I am no longer compelled to take afternoon naps. Like many other people, I had potatoes, carrots, and other high glycemic index foods in my diet. No longer!! I am _not_ cranky, and there are plenty of vegetables and fruits in my day. Thanks
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Still loving SB after four months! Review: I wrote an interview back in October on SB. Here I am still using this WOE four months later, 27 pounds off, inches, my blood sugar is in the normal range and the good news is that I will not have to take medication for my diabetes. I eat six meals a day, three small snacks and three small meals and still losing weight. I find that my cravings are gone and I am not hungry anymore. I ended up with nerve damage in my feet and hands. I believe I had diabetes untreated for over two years. The doctor said if I can keep my blood sugar levels down for six months it will reverse itself. In just four months my feet have stopped hurting and my hands are almost there as well. I have tried many diets in the past but I look at this as a way of eating for the rest of my life instead of a diet. I have to do this for my health and well being for the rest of my life. I find that there is more food to chose from and eat then ones I can't have. With a combination of my liquid vitamins, cleaning houses four days a week for excercise and using SB WOE I will be able to control my diabetes without using medication and finually feel more like myself again.Ann

I have been battling excess pounds since I quit smoking 4 years ago. I believe I have found the solution in this book. No weighing, measuring, counting - THIS IS HEAVEN. I take my hat off to these gentlemen for taking the time to explain it to me in layman's terms and making cooking fun again. I have shared my new found information with co-workers, who are running out to get their own copies. Thanks again for a job well done.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: FINALLY, HOPE FOR THE TRULY OBESE. Review: I had made up my mind that I would try one more "diet" book. If this program did not work, I was going to give up a 40 year attempt to be normal. I was a premature baby. Prior to my birth, my parents lost six little boys. Can you imagine how hard they tried to "keep me alive?" By the age of 6 I was on diet pills and the roughest rollercoaster ride in any child and adult's life . Name it, I tried it...everything but surgery and I refused that. Everything failed. I would faithfully follow low fat high carbohydrate diets with a 20 pound loss in a year. I was so creative with my meal planning and menus that I wrote the meal plans for the instructors! I wasn't stupid... the diets were just not working. I saw someone on television who had lost a lot of weight and she was promoting this book. I decided that I would try once more... but this was it. Sugar Busters! changed my life! I was not a failure, I was not "crazy"...it wasn't "demon-possession"...it was the "hidden" sugar in my diet! I had cut out desserts long ago. Little did I realize that my high carb "legal" friends were the enemy! In three days, I lost all cravings for sugar. I cooked and baked for all of the holidays and never ate one spoon of sugar or white flour. In three months, I have lost 47 pounds and have gained hope for the first time in 40 years. If you are truly obese with at least 100 pounds to lose and are at the lowest point of self-esteem , take courage, buy this book. I promise you, the food will stop calling to you. You can eat and be normal. You can go out with your family and friends and enjoy the social events that you crave. This is our key... this is the answer. The solution to the war with food and your body lies within this book. SugarBusters! was my answer to prayer. I pray that it will be yours.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A book that causes culture shock to the reader! Review: This book is a quick read, and anytime you feel that the authors are only witch-hunting for sugar peddlers, just take a look at the labels on processed meats (sugar and starch in bologna and hot dogs); canned chicken (modified food starch); canned tomatoes (added sugar); and a hundred other items that have become part of our dietary culture. We've been advised by dieticians and nutritionists for years, but the weight of the average American keeps on climbing. All humans are NOT the same, metabolically speaking, and there IS evidence that our reaction to carbohydrate loads can vary. The authors do NOT advocate abandoning all carbohydrates, but selecting UNrefined carbohydrates over refined ones; selecting better food sources than we do; eating prudently, using MODERATE portions; and steering clear of food items that can aggravate metabolisms sensitive to refined carbohydrates. Until the magical pill comes out to burn the excess fat and sugar in our diets, this book will do. Both Steward and Dr. Ott in LA also recommend Neurosync behavior modification software to inforce your will to stay on this diet. I did and I've been on it for 18 months without much effort. I've kept off 35 pounds for over a year. Yes, try it. To most Americans used to a diet heavy with hidden (and not so hidden) sugar, simple carbohydrates and unlimited quantities (we're becoming an "all you can eat society"), this will be a culture shock, but one that may shake us out of our complaceny.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Sugar busters right, Reader from Missouri uh oh! Review: Potential readers of Sugar Busters may be concerned by the 'seemingly' authoritative criticism from the person referred to as 'A reader from Missouri'. Unfortunately 'Missouri's' air of authority is seriously misleading - as shown by the following example: Quote from 'Missouri's criticism------------------ 5. Claim: "In general, fluids should be drunk in small quantities during meals. "Washing" food down frequently causes the bypass of proper chewing which is necessary to break food into smaller, more appropriate particles for better digestion. Excess fluid with meals also dilutes the digestive juices ... which may result in partially digested food." Fact: No scientific evidence exists to support the claim! that consuming fluids during a meal negatively affects digestion. What's more, health professionals stress the importance of consuming fluids for maintaining and regulating fluid balance, preventing headaches and fatigue associated with dehydration and helping with weight loss. A sedentary individual needs at least eight glasses of fluid each day, and an active individual needs at least 10. End Quote----------------------------------------- On the face of it 'Missouri' is right, but in reality it is the Sugar Busters authors who win the day on this point, and here's why: It certainly is important to drink plenty of water, and the number of glasses suggested by 'Missouri' are approximately correct. BUT - it is no good drinking lots of water *with* your meals, which is more likely to be counterproductive, for the reasons given in SUGAR BUSTERS! For the full benefit you should drink 1 or 2 (8 ounce) glasses of water approximately one half hour *before* you eat so that it is already in place and ready for it's crucial role in the digestive process *when you START eating*. If you leave the drinking until you've already started eating it will simply be too late for it to do any good. So, sorry 'Missouri', your argument just doesn't wash. On the contrary, it raises the question of how much more of your (well meant) criticism is equally misjudged. As for SUGAR BUSTERS!, the book's approach seems to conforms to one of life's most most basic rules - if it works for you, go with it. If it doesn't, (and *nothing* works for *everyone*), try some of the other widely recommended techniques until you find one that's right for *you*.
