Rating: Summary: I feel much better already!!! Review: I only started Sugar Busters! 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have lost 7 lbs. What I like the most is, I am not hungry all day long. My eating was out of control. I was starving all the time. Now, I don't think about eating and I am not hungry. I don't miss or crave potatoes, which is amazing. I eat 3 meals a day and two snacks. I could have more if I wanted but really don't care for it. The book makes since to me. I plan on making it my lifelong eating program. By the way, the book was recommended to me by my doctor...
Rating: Summary: Easy, simple, and it works, which gave me hope. Review: My daughter lost weight for the first time in 6 years. She let herself go and nothing worked for her as she gave up on everything. But not SugarBusters, she loves it and told me about it when I was diagnosed with Diabetes II 8 months ago.I lost weight, my blood sugar went down, my cholesterol went down, even the doctor was amazed.I have lost 26 pounds and this has given me hope which is more then I had eating the regular diabetic diet. and my daughter is beautiful but just got huge, now she is gaining self esteem and a body due to this book. It is a necessity for me, but for her a choice and it works for us both and others. Buy it, read it, it makes sense to me,but I would like more info pertaining to diabetics and how long I can stay on this.
Rating: Summary: Realize everyone's body is different Review: I haven't completed this book yet, but what I have found more interesting that the book itself is everyone's comments. These comments travel the full love-hate spectrum. One thing, and it is one of the MOST important things to remember -- everyone's body is different and each body will react differently to this program. For some it is an ideal metabolic fit, while for others it is a disaster. The program is working for me, so far, and I do not feel cheated, tired, or out of sorts, unfortunately, I do not feel an increased zest yet either. I do belive it is a book worth reading and evaluating for yourself.
Rating: Summary: An easy to read book on dieting Review: This is an exceptional book on eating properly. When you get through with the book you ponder the question on how or why our society ever got into eating so much refined sugar and processed flour. I am learning to eat foods that are better to digest and better to be metabolized. I tried the Mayo-Clinic Diet that is a High Protein-Low Carbohydrate diet and I lost 7 pounds in 12 days. I got a little bored with it and looked for a way to eat a variety of foods. I'm recommending this book to my husband and my friends. I am now shopping at a Health Food Store! I'm really watching the SUGAR content on items I eat. I also now know things I never would have thought were HIGH SUGAR foods, like: Potatoes, Corn, Watermelon, Beer, White Bread and many more. I'm a school nurse and I have 3 diabetic children at my school and I'm going to recommend this book to their parents too. I also recommend this book if you're interested in losing weight and maintaining a target weight.
Rating: Summary: not a healthy way to eat for life Review: Speaking as a Type II diabetic, insulin intolerance is caused by obesity, not the other way around and you would think an endocrinologist and a cardiologist would know this. This is not a program a person can or should stay on for the rest of his/her life--although a couple of weeks probably wouldn't hurt too badly. However, how have they eliminated the problem of ketosis and kidney problems that high protein, low carbohydrate, "low fat" (programs that encourage lots of red meat and nuts and nut butters aren't really low fat and aren't easily digestible by those people without gall bladders) generally cause? Or have those problems been eliminated?
Rating: Summary: Good idea, badly done Review: i zipped through this book in an afternoon. it's a good idea but you'd think between 4 guys they could have done a better job. it should be called the diet for rich middle age men who aren't vegetarians. there is very little guidance on how to shop on this diet, or how to order in a restaurant. and what about how to read a nutritional label? also, how about side effects? personally i have lost some weight on this diet but i am always dizzy, tired, bloated and have trouble focusing. i noticed reading other reviews that i'm not the only one having problems. where's that promised energy boost? i think the authors have a responsibility to tell the entire spectrum of how people react to this diet, not just the self promoting cases.
Rating: Summary: This book makes so much sense and is easy to understand. Review: If you've never been able to lose weight and keep it off, this is the book for you! I use to watch calories, count fat grams, and nothing seemed to work, but eliminating the foods recommended in this book has worked a miracle on my weight! This is a sensible, easy to comprehend and easy to follow weight loss plan! I have yet to be hungry on this food plan.
Rating: Summary: Everyone is selling something! Review: I think those 5-star reviews were all from youngsters whose metabolisms are in tip-top shape! An honest review from a mid-lifer: This diet plan convinced me that (a) I wasn't eating enough protein (my energy level zoomed on this plan), (b) I was eating too many carbs and refined foods (I had a sharp, 2-wk. headache from eliminating them and discovered that they cause fatigue when I added them back 6 wks. later) and (c) if you want to lose weight, exercise regularly and get the fats and carbs out of your diet. Simple, isn't it?
Rating: Summary: FINALLY FOUND THE IDEAL WAY OF EATING. Review: I first head about this book on the radio and I went out and bought and read it right away. I started to eat the way that was recommended and lost 4 pounds in 5 days. I then went to a Super Bowl party and ate lots of carbohydrates and sugars and gained the full 4 pounds back again plus 3 more.Last Saturday I made the full committment to stay on the SugarBusters way of eating and by following it fully, I have lost 6 1/2 pounds in just 5 days. I know that it has a lot to do with water weight but it has given me the incentive to stick to it. I especially love being told what I can and can't eat. I have always said if someone would just tell me what I can and cannot eat it would be easier. I have finally found the ideal way of eating. I have recommended the book to friends and relatives. Thank you for putting this in writing and publishing it for all of us to use.
Rating: Summary: This book has the answer to my over weight problem. Review: The book has been the answer to my many prayers over many years. I have been able to lose 38 pounds now in 5 months. I have been a yo-yo and I feel that this way of eating has broken that string. I have now become knowledgeable of the way my body processes the foods I eat. I understand why I was gaining weight while eating a low fat diet. These doctors, who wrote the SUGAR BUSTERS book, have helped me when the physician I call my doctor couldn't. My triglycerides have dropped to 48 from 84. Life is very very good. I enjoy lots of great meals while I continue to lose body fat. I am 54 years old and am in better health than when I was 20.
