Rating: Summary: YUMMY! I am so glad I bought this! Review: I don't buy a lot in the way of cookbooks, but I really wanted some new ideas. I am a vegetarian, but my boyfriend and I don't like to use a lot of dairy. I love mediterranean food and this book was exactly what I hoped for. I recently bought "Simply Vegan" by Debra Wasserman and was dissapointed by the fact that most recipes were "regular" recipes and just substituted a soy product for the animal ingredient. The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen is nothing like that. The basis for these recipes is real ingredients, not imitation meat and imitation dairy. Every recipe I have tried has been delicious. Even my meat eating friends have been satisfied by these recipes! I wish there were more cookbooks like this!
Rating: Summary: Love this Cookbook! Review: I have a couple of vegetarian and vegan cookbooks, and this one is what I use most. Every recipe I have cooked has turned out wonderful and delicious! There are not many hard to find ingredients, i have found everything in my local supermarket.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFULLY DELICIOUS AND EASY Review: I have tried a number of the recipes in this book now and each one is extremely flavorful, easy to prepare, and very fresh in taste. I have recently put my husband on a mostly "vegan" diet (I still bake with eggs and honey), and have been experimenting with recipes and cookbooks. This one is a daily staple in my kitchen repitoire, and will continue to be so into the indefinite future.
Rating: Summary: A must have for every Vegan Kitchen Review: I highly recommend this cookbook. This book is a wonderful change of pace from my other meat substitute dependent cookbooks. I use mine daily for quick dinners and wonderful desserts.
Rating: Summary: Earthy Review: I love this book. It has earthy comfort food. Whether someone is a vegan, vegetarian or not they will enjoy this food. I have made about 10 receips from the book. Everyone I would make again. I hope she is planning on writing more cookbooks.
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: I love this cookbook. All the dishes are made from real food. I have other cookbooks that use tofu and other ingredients to "make up for" not using meat and dairy. It gets really old buying all the ingredients that they say are so good and when you try them you end up throwing them out because they are so awful. It is a real delight to open up a vegan cookbook and see normal good tasting foods in the recipes. It is wonderful to have recipes that you can really enjoy. If you want to eat vegan but you can't bring yourself to give up your favorite unhealthy dishes you can try the "fake" dishes that you usually see in vegan cookbooks, but there is a good chance that you won't like the recipes and you'll go back to your old eating habits. However, if you want to try new dishes which taste great and will replace your desire for the less healthy foods then buy this book. I have tried some recipes in this book that are great, others are okay. But even the okay ones have given me ideas and taught me things so that I can change the recipes just enough to make them more palatable to my own taste buds. If you are a tofu, miso, tahini person buy another book, but if not, this one is for you.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful Cookbook Review: I really love this book. The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen by Donna Klein is a new favorite in my MASSIVE collection. Such wonderful "creamy" soups, hearty pastas, and fresh snacks. It does not matter what type of fare you want, you can find it in here. I really do love this book and would HIGHLY recommend it. I have bragged about it to my friends for quite some time!
Happy cooking!
Rating: Summary: An excellent cookbook! Review: I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis. My doctor wanted me to try an endo diet to see if that would lessen my pain. The endo diet consists of only whole grains, beans, vegetables and fruits. Meat, dairy, eggs and soy are not allowed. The few cookbooks that I do own have all the basic, standard recipes using meat, dairy and eggs. I did an on-line search and came across "The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen". What a lifesaver this cookbook is! I have been cooking suppers from this cookbook for almost two weeks now and every single recipe that I've tried has been delicious! Even my husband is impressed with the recipes! The recipes use real food with no soy substitutes and the ingredients have been found easily at our local supermarket. The recipes have been easy to follow and easy to prepare. I would highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Healthful, delectable and easy to make Review: I'll admit that I wasn't positive that I could follow a vegan diet. Too many of the cookbooks catering to vegans assume that one still wants to eat fake "meatloaf," fake burgers, etc. In my opinion its awfully hard to stick to a vegetarian diet of any kind if you still make "fake" meat the center of the meal. Let's face it; no matter how good soy burgers are, they'll never taste like a "real" beef hamburger.
Enter "The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen." Rather than trying to replicate meat dishes with soy substitutes, Donna Klein focuses on recipes that naturally had little or no meat or dairy to begin with. Believe me, I love a good flavorful meal and would NEVER be able to stick with a cookbook unless I've tried several recipes and found them successful. This book is the real deal. Try cooking the Quick Tuscan Bean Soup and see if anyone even notices that there is no meat or cheese. After a few weeks of these great recipes, you'll never miss meat again.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding cookbook! Review: I've only had this book a short time, but everything I've tried has been wonderful! Just reading the recipes is entertaining and makes me hungry. I like the idea of having different cookbooks for different vegan cuisines. It makes meal planning easier because everything "goes together". One problem in the past was ending up with a Mexican appetizer, and Indian main course and a French dessert. This book solves that problem. This is an excellent addition to my vegan bookshelf.
