Rating: Summary: Much-needed companion to the low-glycemic way of life Review: Besides excellent recipes, this book provides lists of allowed foods, and (maybe most valuable of all) a brand-name shopping list for such items as pasta sauces, breads, and canned goods. As for the recipes, it's hard to believe that luxurious dishes like Cream of Artichoke Soup, Chateaubriand Bouquetiere, and Chocolate Mousse are diet foods, but it's true. Plus there is a list of allowable red wines, also allowed in this way of eating. Even if it weren't a diet book, it would be a worthwhile addition to my cookbook collection.
Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware Review: Buyer Beware. Don't make the same mistake I did and purchase Ellen Brennan's other book "Sugar Less for Life!". With the exception of a few words, these two books are identical. I certainly didn't need two of the same cookbooks. Oh well. . .one of them will make a nice gift for a friend.

Rating: Summary: Finally, The Book That Makes Dieting Fun! Review: I have known about the diet SugarBusters for a few years now, and it wasn't until Sugar Bust For Life that I was able to make the diet part of my life. I love to cook, and this book gave me the opportunity to create gourmet meals, while on a diet! The recipes are easy and taste as good as they sound. Sugar Bust For Life was my lifesaver!
Rating: Summary: Lots of Low Sugar Recipes to Sugar Bust for Life! Review: I thoroughly enjoy following the recipes in this book. I do not agree with the reader from Birmingham about editing. I have had no trouble following the directions. Sometimes I do my "own editing" for fun and variation, but I always follow the basic recipes and make sure that whatever I add or omit is an acceptable ingredient. Perhaps the reader should try the recipes in Sugar Bust for Life! ... with the Brennans Part II. There are great recipes in it, too. And more wines and more acceptable brand name items. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great Editing, Great Recipes, Great Diet! Review: I usually read the customer and editorial reviews before I purchase a book. Fortunately, I know not to depend solely on them. Such was the case with SUGAR BUST FOR LIFE! Obviously, the reader from Birmingham was having a bad day. The book contains over 400 low sugar recipes to choose-the ones I have tried have all been excellent. I did not start with the desserts; Just Desserts serve as my reward for losing pounds. Now that I have had success with this way of eating, I have tried the desserts. The Praline Parfait was very tasty and explicitly calls for sugar free maple syrup. The Vanilla Ice Cream calls for sugar-free syrup. I took that to mean any sugar-free syrup; i.e., it could be maple if I wanted or it didn't have to be maple. It turned out nicely. The Brand Name Guide recommends two kinds of syrup. I hope that whoever reads my review will give SUGAR BUST FOR LIFE! a "try" and not let that one misleading review be a deterrent. In any case, I felt that I needed to reply so others are not denied a sensible, healthy, and satisfying way to lose weight and stay fit.
Rating: Summary: Can't Believe NC! Review: I'm confused by the misleading review from the reader in NC. I got this cookbook 8 weeks ago and I LOVE it. It is packed with fantastic and easy to make recipes for every occasion and I've already lost 10 pounds! If the reader is intimidated by the thought of eating "turtles and ducks" he/she doesn't know what they're missing, but not to worry, this book has you covered. Is spaghetti and meatballs too exotic for them? Meatloaf? They want "McDonald's?" That's too bad because the 3 hamburger recipes are simple and delicious. In fact, the Hamburger Brennan is the best burger I've ever had. The reader from NC is worried about cheese and butter? Did they read the Low Fat Modification section? The book clearly explains that many times low and no fat equals high sugar content. It's all about moderation and the author provides substitutions. And thank goodness for all those appetizer and sauce recipes! Now I can entertain or make a special dinner for my family and still stick to my diet! I've tried a million diets and this book is the first one that's made sense to me! I don't know what's going on in NC, but take it from NY, this book is a life saver!
Rating: Summary: W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L Review: It's me again-----the little fatty from Birmingham, Alabama that wrote a comment in April, 1999. I still feel the same way about this book, however, more good news. In sixteen weeks, I have lost 45 POUNDS!!! With a combination of exercise, three quarts of water per day, my herbs and THIS COOKBOOK, I have really surprised myself. I am impressing my friends with all of these good recipes, since I used to only cook great things like hamburger helper and pot pies!!!!!!!
