Summary: Whole Soy Cookbook Delivers Gourmet Tastes
Review: As an avid cook I was looking for ways to incorporate less meat in my diet to lower my fat intake. While the Whole Soy Cookbook soothes my gourmet sensibilities, soy cooking does not necessarily mean low fat. In her brightly written text, the author encourages the neophiles such as myself to try soy in its many forms. In the beginning of the book she outlines the health benefits of soy, it's derivations and resources for certain soy products. This is not a hippie cookbook. With choices like Chilled Mango Cantaloupe Soy Soup, Warm Salad of Roasted Portobello Mushrooms with Creamy Garlic Dressing, Soy Crepes with Ratatouille, Tiramisu and Soy Chocolate Hazelnut Biscotti the flavors are sophisticated and piquant. A great cookbook to try if you're eager to try soy. Not as great a choice if low fat and low carbs is a prerequisite.

Summary: I would give this book 10 stars if I could!
Review: Even though I am an avid low-fat cook, I think that the best part of this book is precisely that the recipes are not low-fat. Substituting ingredients to make something low-fat and tasty is easy. Cooking with the *many* shapes and kinds of soy, however, is one of the greatest challenges I have faced in healthy cooking. I have learned a lot from this book. If you are looking for a low-fat vegetarian recipe cookbook, I highly recommend the Moosewood Lowfat Favorites. Another winner!!

Summary: excellent guide for beginner & advanced soy cooking.
Review: Extremely helpful and informative for beginner soy cook - as I am. Variety of soy products and of possible dishes from soup to nuts to desserts. Incorporates alot of different herbs and spices. Makes cooking with soy interesting and exciting as well as healthful. Any adventurous cook would love this book, and others would find themselves becoming more adventurous. Previously I had only used tofu in the standard stir fry but this book has opened all kinds of possibilities and taste treats to my family. Nutritional analyses at the end of each recipe are a big bonus..

Summary: Not as good as I hoped
Review: Far too many of the tofu recipes in this book consist of taking a block of tofu, slicing it, frying the slices and then covering them with sauce. (Tofu with Mole Sauce, I'm looking at you!)

Other recipes fail because they simply try to replace meat with tofu or tempeh, rather than trying to be completely new recipes in which the soy product can shine on its own, rather than as a substitute.

So far, there are only 2 recipes that I would recommend - the Spinach Burgers and the Brown Rice Pilaf. The rest? Meh. I'm still looking for a really good tofu cookbook.

Summary: Whole Soy Cooking
Review: From the Author, Patricia Greenberg, November 8, 2000

Soy in all of its forms, gets a bad rap from the American consumer, as well as the Food Elite. In light of that, I decided to write cookbooks devoted to soy that would appeal to a wide variety of tastes and encompass many styles of cooking.

My first cookbook, "The Whole Soy Cookbook" will give you a chock full of recipes and ideas on how to use every form of soy foods, and My new book, "Soy Desserts," will introduce you to some luscious, healthy desserts.

Whether you are an experienced cook, or just starting out, both books contains over 100 delicious and easy recipes for you to enjoy. All of the items should be recognizable to you. They are based on classical recipes, taken from a wide variety of cuisines, substituting your old favorites with soy based ingredients.

I am a nutritionist, trained chef, and cooking teacher, specializing in vegetarian nutrition for 15 years. I am constantly amazed and inspired by how versatile soy can be.

You may be completely new to the world of soy products or you may be familiar with some forms, but not with others. You can experiment with your own recipes by following the suggested guidelines throughout both books, and there is a source guide that will help you obtain all the different products available today. . Nutritional analysis are listed at the bottom of each recipe for your convenience.

...Enjoy! Patricia Greenberg

Summary: Lots of neat ideas
Review: I bought this cookbook a few years ago when I had just decided to eliminate eating meat/fish etc from my diet. At the time I wasn't "ready" for all the tofu etc but I gradually grew to love it and I'm so glad I keptthis cookbook around. It has so many tasty recipes - there are nice bean salads, hearty stews, a paella, desserts etc. Each recipe has nutritional contents too. One thing that turns some people off is that many of the recipes that are take-offs on previously meat-laden recipes are called by their meat names (e.g. Soy Sausage Potato Chowder or the Soy Meat Loaf). It doesn't phase me though and sometimes helps me to get my husband to try it. Lots of interesting recipes for tempeh. Some recipes (like the curried eggplant) use soy yogurt too. Its a fun cookbook and so far so good in terms of being tasty. Definitely recommend this one!

Summary: Great Soy Recipes-Easy Too!!
Review: I do not really like soy, but these recipes make it taste great. That's important when it is something that is so good for you. The recipes are simple and easy but taste elaborate.
