Summary: Great book, and it does really work
Review: I have been following this food plan for about 6 or 7 weeks, and although I have lost only about 5 lbs, I know that it is healthy and it does work. I developed gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy, so after reviewing the ADA diet, I decided to eliminate all refined carbs. I ate as much red meat as I wanted to, and used regular salad dressings (not with sugar). My blood sugars were very stable, I only gained 20 lbs, and my cholesteral and triglycerides returned to normal. My baby weighed 9 lbs, 13 oz., and had no rebound hypoglycemia or calcium-magnesium imbalances after birth. I ate lots of veggies, of course, and only ate fruits two hours after dinner. When I read Suzanne's book, I couldn't believe it! On my own I had stumbled on to exactly what she and Dr. Schwartzbein advocate. I had lost a total of only 7 lbs of fat during my pregnancy, which isn't impressive, but it sure convinced me. I want to reassure anyone who isn't losing as fast as the others, not to get discouraged or give up. I agree about Stevia being better than nutrasweet. When I switched to Stevia, I didn't feel drained after drinking one cup of decaf, and it helped drop another pound or two. One caveat I do offer, however. According to my Mass. General Hospital dietary dept. manual (I'm an RN), onions are classified as a high carb veggie, grouped with carrots, beets, peas, winter squash and turnips at 7 gr. per half cup. So although I do eat them, I use them only as seasoning, in small amounts. As for the reader who thinks eliminating sugar is unhealthy, I don't know where he/she gets their information. Above all, my mood has been elevated by eating this way; on the traditional low-fat, high carb "diets", I was always cranky, glum, and thought about food all the time. After a so-called "healthy" low-fat pasta meal, (regulation one-half cup) I was always exhausted! Whole-wheat pastas are less draining, but I still restrict my intake of them. I feel much better eating a variety of all kinds of animal protein, and my lipid profile is normal. Thanks, Suzanne and Dr. Schwartzbein!

Summary: Praise from doc-author..."Care and Feeding of Your Brain"
Review: Suzanne Somers recommends a very healthy diet in this book. My area of expertise is in foods and suppliments that affect the brain. In Somers' book, the diet recommended is great for helping to minimize the ravages of oxidants in our environment while keeping you slim. There is more and more evidence that even limiting your caloric intake as well improves cell life throughout the body including the brain. "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain" would be a great companion book so you can optimize your brain function while using the Somers diet to slim down and stay slim and healthy...Kenneth Giuffre MD

Summary: Making it clear
Review: First, I would like to say that Suzanne has developed a magificent method of eating and digesting your intake of foods appropriately. Individuals need to understand that Suzanne does not write "only eat fats and proteins and you'll lose inches." As a matter of fact, those who have read correctly she states (not in exact words) that you should moderate your intake of fatty food (ex: meats, etc.). I suggest to those who believe that this new way of eating to be scary to recall the fact that we all know not to overly indulge in high fatty meats or foods. Also, recall that carbs are recommended to eat and not just meats. So those who have tried it -great and those who worry about just eating fatty meats, don't worry about it!! As I said before Sommersizing is not for eat meaters!! Good Luck to All!!!

Summary: Wonderful theory, an abundance of "allowable" foods!
Review: I am very excited about this eating program. I have been on the diet for 3 weeks. I like the foods I can eat, although I have missed cookies! But, after 3 weeks I am a little discouraged because I have only lost 2 pounds. Is one cup of regular coffee a day, too much cheating? The only carbs I eat, other than what is in vegies, is one bowl of Grape Nuts with no-fat milk replacement (Rice Dream)for breakfast. Does anyone think this is enough to sabatoge my efforts? Please e-mail me.

Summary: This book has changed my lifestyle, I feel renewed.
Review: My sister-in-law introduced me to somersizing alittle while ago. I have tried everything from shakes to uppers for energy and found just by changing the way I eat I could make myself feel alive again. I attempted the Pritikin diet a few weeks ago and did not even get through the first chapter. I felt I had to live in the jungle and eat bamboo shoots for the rest of my life. With somersizing I can eat all the foods I like and eat this way the rest of my life. I thank you Suzanne Somers, and my sister-in-law for finding this lifestyle change for me. Thankly, Anne

Summary: Good Job
Review: I think this book is great. I read through all of the reviews just now and agree wholeheartedly with almost all of them (even some of the bad ones). Someone (waayyy down the line) mentioned how bad this "diet" was, how you may lose weight now but it will carrode your arteries. YES--if you eat high saturated fats it will. Suzanne does promote fat eating... but she does not necessarily promote saturated fat eating. (OK, the bacon and eggs breakfast she likes happens to be high in saturated fats). But you can still follow this regimine and choose low saturated fat meats (such as poultry and fish). You can still get your healthy fats from olive oils.... It is also not a "fad, eat all high fat meats but no veggies and fruits" diet like some of the low carb diets are. This does not even totally restrict carbs. It's a known fact that whole wheat carbs are just better for your health than "white" carbs. I also like the fact that she promotes eating organically. My husband has severe asthma and allergies -- eating organiclly helps his asthma and allergies more than the medications do. Bravo to Suzanne! p.s. I enjoyed the family photos! I love family photo's and stories--no matter whose they are :)

Summary: Looks good to me!
Review: I'm still in the process of reading this book and it sounds great! I have to admit though I'm a little confused about what to eat with what...so am I confused about everything in the book? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to trying this book - I had tried the Atkins diet before but he even restricted fruit - which I need to satisfy my sweet tooth so hopefully this will work! Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions!

Summary: Feeling fabulous and looking better everyday.
Review: When I started this program I was a little leary. I have never had a weight problem in the past until I turned 35 and then the weight started to come on despite the fact that I wasn't doing anything different. After reading this book I realized that I needed to change my eating habits or I was destined to be overweight for ever. I'm losing weight at a healthy rate (about 1 to 3 lbs a week) and I feel fabulous. My husband watched my progress and about 2 months after I started he decided to try it. Well he also started to lose weight very quickly and has tapered off to 2 to 4 lbs a week. The most amazing thing is though, his stomach doesn't bother him anymore. He was taking two kinds of medicine for acid reflux before changing his eating habits and now he doesn't need the medicine at all. We both agree that this is going to be a life change not just a weight lose thing. Yes, when we get to our goals we will occassionly have a beer with dinner or ice cream for desert but never again will we indulge as before.

Summary: Great reading -- haven't tried it yet because I'm pregnant.
Review: I've just finished reading the book and I'm anxious to try Suzanne's eating plan. I'm going to discuss the book with my OB to see if he'll okay this for me. I know in her book there was a Success Story about a woman losing 35 lbs. while pregnant -- is there anyone else out there who has tried eating this way while pregnant?

Summary: Fantastic and easy to follow
Review: I have read both of Suzanne's books and Dr. Schwarzbein's also and found them full of great information and recipes. I finally understand the insulin factor, it is explained so well. I have been on the program for about a month, and while I don't believe in scales, have lost at least a whole size...effortlessly. I never thought I could give up my wine with dinner, but is not a problem. I feel great, and no longer experience the heartburn nor all the other digestive problems I used to have. To all the naysayers out there, my doctor wholeheartedly endorses this way of eating. Thank you Suzanne!
