Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: For those having difficulty losing weight with this book Review: Dr. Diana Schwarzbein who wrote the forward to this book has a book of her own, "The Schwarzbein Principle : The Truth About Losing Weight, Being Healthy, and Feeling Younger" in which she explains in detail the scientific rationale behind a low (not "no")carbohydrate diet. I heartily recommend her book be used as a companion to Suzanne's. What she says is that if you have been yo-yo dieting, or dieting with a low fat diet or even overeating carbohydrates in a typical North American diet (in other words, most of us who are overweight) have likely lost muscle mass and possibly bone over the years. I know that I have been yo-yo dieting for 25 years.Therefore, when you follow a healthful low carbohydrate way of eating, incorporating fat and protein in healthy amounts, your body will first look to build up its muscle mass, balance its hormones, (i.e. reduce insulin resistance)and burn fat. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you will not necessarily see your scale move because you are gaining muscle at the same time as you are dropping fat. In the last 6 weeks, I have lost only 2-1/2 pounds and was feeling very discouraged. However, yesterday,I noticed my clothes were a lot loser and I have dropped a whole dress size! Now I know that had I lost 2-1/2 pounds on the scale prior to being on a low carb diet, fat loss would never have amounted to a whole dress size. In other words I have been losing FAT even though I am building muscle. The other thing is to watch your carb intake. Buy a carbohydrate counter and using that and Diana Schwarzbein's book as a guide for how many carbohydrate grams you should consume, you will lose FAT. Good luck!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Save your money and buy Dr. Schwarzbein's Principle Review: Suzanne's premise is a good one, however, the food combining is too difficult so people are unlikely to stick to this regimen in the long run. I read Dr. Schwarzbein's Principle after Get Skinny, and it is very well written and easier to follow. I only want to lose about 8-10 lbs and have lost 6 lbs in the last 4 weeks on the Principle Plan. Plus, I am not denying myself pasta with meat sauce and cheese, bread and butter, real sandwiches etc. Get Skinny is basically Dr. Schwarzbein's eating plan with a new (and questionable) food combining theory.

All this terrific food, as much as I want, and I've lost almost 25 pounds in less than four weeks! I'm a very large man, so I carried the weight well, but I still hated getting fatter and fatter all the time. Now I've dropped from 235 to 210--and half that time I was on vacation! Suzannes fodod combining works for me! 35 lbs in 16 weeks even with the weekend parties and a few glasses of beer or wine! To all who say it is not healthy, my previous "diet" was almost all carbos, sugar products, high fat & protein too. So I do not see how selecting the correct foods in the correct combos is unhealthy! I am eating fruit,some carbos, and more vegetables than ever before. Finally I can eat real dressing! I also would like to point out that since I have no fat w/carbos, I am probably eating less fat than those who aren't "dieting". This has become a way of life for me, and has freed me from my food addiction. I no longer crave sugar! And yes I do have caffeine once a day. So for all those for whom the diet hasn't worked, as Suzanne herself says, this is NOT the diet for everybody but it certainly has become mine! Everywhere I go people ask me how I've lost the weight, I first ask if they are high carbo/sugar eaters to begin with... that seems to be the key. Review: I bought both of Suzanne's books this summer and believe in her concept of eating foods in the proper combination. I've had stomach problems for years and with proper food combining, found that I felt so much better. My husband and I began somersizing together, walking four miles each day and attending water aerobics classes three times weekly. We both looked and felt better, after losing weight and tightening up. Since going on vacation and slipping back into bad habits, I've found it difficult to begin again. Suddenly I have a desire for sweets. Recently on Larry King's show, Suzanne mentioned "beta food" which is supposed to stem the desire for sugar. Has anyone heard of it? I've gone to a few health food stores and no one knows what I'm talking about. I'm desperate to start somersizing again, but need help with getting the sugar out of my diet. If anyone knows about "beta food" or where it can be purchased, please e-mail me. Thanks.

Her new book has a wonderful explanation regarding food combining and the effects of eliminating refined flour and sugar from our diet and I love the recipes. I can't imagine ever eating any other way! I have no food cravings and never feel bloated after meals. Wow what a difference!

How wrong I was!! I have lost 10 pounds and am still losing. My hubby has lost almost 15! This is an easy way to eat, live and be healthy. I think anyone can lose weight fast and easy and keep it off with this plan. Go ahead, try it.......then you will be back writing a review telling how much you lost!

Review: I loved reading this book, looking at the photos and eating the food in the recipes! My family loves the food as well. It is a pleasure not to have to count calories or fat grams and basically not have to obsess about food! I feel great and have loads more energy! Unfortunately, I have lost only 2 - 1/2 pounds since beginning the program 6 weeks ago. My cheats are one cup of coffee on weekdays and one teaspoon of butter on my morning toast. I have heard that being on the Pill might cause an increase in insulin, thereby slowing down weight loss. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions that helped them? Is anyone doing really well while being on the Pill? I would appreciate any suggestions/information and would be glad to reciprocate, especially since this book makes so much sense!

Review: I am very impressed with this "diet" because in two weeks I have lost six pounds by following the Somersizing plan. I also noticed my skin and nails look better, so giving up the sugar and caffeine had to help. Before I was eating a low fat- high carb diet and I lost no weight even though I was also working out. This book works. However, I also agree with other reviewers about still watching your intake of saturated fats. You don't want to go crazy with the fat on this diet.
