Rating: Summary: Really want to start, but Review: I have to start by saying that both of suzannes books are the only diet books I ever read from cover to cover. I didn't want to put the books down. Even the receipes are fun to read. I want to start this diet but more for health reasons than weight loss. I have high cholesterol and am hypoglycemic. I know how awful I feel on certain days when I don't eat properly. My concern is how long do I have to stay on level I before my system is cleaned out enough to go to level II? If I go straight to level II will I gain weight? I don't want to start till I have an answer to this question.
Rating: Summary: It Really works and it's wonderful. Review: I have spent the last 20 years trying every kind of diet I could find. After reading this book I lost 32 pounds in 3 months and I feel wonderful. I dropped about 3 pounds a week. I followed the guide lines and walked everyday. It's a eatting habit that you can stay with. I have sold about 18 of the books. People see me dropping weight and run for the bookstore. I have about 10 pounds to go and want to thank her for this book it was a life saver for me. What we do need thought is more receipts with less spices, Some of us can not eat the spices. My teen age daughters friends tell her how beautiful her mom is now and thats a great feeling.
Rating: Summary: This is a WONDERFUL way of life! Review: I have been Somersizing for 6 weeks and have lost 12 pounds. I am never hungry, I can have salads, tuna fish with REAL mayonaise, cheese...I have had severe digestive troubles my emtire life, and those have all completely VANISHED....this WOE is one that is easy to grasp and stick with...I love it! ~Thank you Suzanne!~
Rating: Summary: This is my first week of Somersizing... Review: and I am excited. I am over forty and tired of my body feeling and looking like sixty. I've tried the Atkins diet and didn't have any luck with weigh loss. However, eliminating refined flours and most sugars seem to eliminate cravings. This program is easier to live with and it looks as though my whole family will thrive. Her recipes are creative but with a full time job and kids' activities, it takes a little bit of effort not to just throw a piece of meat and salad on the dinner table every night. However, if I prepare a few of her recipes well, I can gradually build a repetoire of meals as I get used to them. I am a little confused about my mornings with my first cup of coffee (which is very important to me). I normally grab a cup of decafe with half and half--no sugar. Do I consider this to be a fat? If I want fruit, do I need to eat that first and then wait 20 mins before my first cup of coffee? How about if I use nonfat milk w/coffee (yuk). Then can I eat fruit at the same time? How about non dairy coffee creamer? Also, I normally try to drink a full glass of water before my meals. In her first book, Suzanne advises not to drink fluids with meals. Should I wait to drink after meals? Is there a Somersize bulletin board somewhere on the web?
Rating: Summary: For Anyone who is Discouraged... Review: I have been eating low-carb for 4 1/2 months and it is only starting to work for me now. I have dropped my cholesterol level more than 60 points and my clothes are getting looser, but only very slowly. Perhaps due to a damaged metabolism, some people take longer than others to see results, but it does work! Additionally, I have stopped "spotting" between periods (have been doing this for the past three years, with no insight from my OB/GYN about this) and my eyesight is improving, and my feet are no longer numb (symptoms of high blood insulin). I have a family history of adult-onset diabetes so this plan has been a lifesaver. One thing I do avoid is eating the all carb/veggie meals, because my body can't handle that amount of carbs at one meal, and I limit the amount of nonstarchy veggies that I eat, too. Also, Stevia, available at health food stores and most GNC outlets (or they will order it for you-get the powdered rather than liqiud form, it tastes better) is better than using Equal because it doesn't cause a rise in insulin levels, which aspartame does for some people (Suzanne makes this point in the book). Above all, have faith and don't give up. Some of us just take longer to respond. I'm glad I didn't go back to Weight Watchers out of frustration. If I had, I would have lost "weight" in the form of water, some fat, but mostly muscle tissue, and I'm guessing that all of my symptoms would have returned. Another way to look at your situation is, losing weight is only part of the overall goal of improving your health. Keep your blood insulin levels under control, drink your water, exercise, too, and the rest will fall naturally into place. Don't compare yourself to all the lucky people who lose weight quickly on this plan. Results do vary for individuals- we are all different! Good luck and keep up the good work! : )
Rating: Summary: Great way of eating for life. Review: The book is great.I can't seem to get past the first five pounds though. I have so may questions. Wish there was a place to get answers. I follow the diet and do all the things she says to do , yet after 4 weeks still only 5 pounds.Has anyone gotten past this first rough spot, and gone on to get rid of all their excess pounds? Please email me with any tips that might help.
Rating: Summary: Good cookbook Review: This is just the beginning. Take this information about food combining seriously. If you want to really understand how to use food combining and WHY you should, read Dr. M Ted Morter's book "Your health, Your choice" or Theodore Baroody's book, "Alkalize or Die". They are well written, simple to understand and contain excellent information. Skinny is only one piece of the puzzle; overall health is the ultimate goal!!
Rating: Summary: I've lost 10 lbs in 7 weeks so far! Review: I haven't been hungry, working out or eating things I don't like. It's so easy! I am going to throw all my other diet books away. This is the only book I need to shed the pounds and keep them off. Suzanne makes so much sense and the quick reference page is very handy. Not only have I lost weight, but my energy levels are more even throughout the day and my moods are generally good (forget St. Johns Wort - just Somercise!). A huge plus for women- my premenstral symptoms have been greatly reduced as well. Thank you, Suzanne, for writing these books! I wish I would have found them earlier! You have changed my life!
Rating: Summary: Already posted a super endorsement, but have a question. Review: In the recipe for preserving lemons, using kosher salt and leaving the lemons sit in water in a sealed container for 30 days, what do we do with all those lemons on the 30th day? I'd like to try this but cannot see myself using more than a few lemons at once. Do you freeze the rind after this time period? Does anyone out there know?
Rating: Summary: OK - I'm finally doing it... Review: I'm giving a review. I have been reading the reviews on both of Suzanne's books, at first just to give me the push to buy but then afterwards to give me incentive, inspiration and assurance. It certainly did. You see, I was one the skinny girls in high school that you love to hate. Until I got married that is - 8 years later I couldn't understand why my thighs were stopping my jeans from going on. The more high carb low fat I ate, the more lbs. I seemed to put on. Not anymore - Suzanne's book really changed me and the way I ate. Her approach is sensible, easy and understandable. No carb counting and no fat gram counting. Before her book I was on my way to a size 14 and now I am just short of a size 8. Suzanne gave me my figure back. I'm sure the people at the Greek takeout restaurant next door are wondering why I am now asking for their regular olive oil Greek dressing now instead of the low-cal Italian. If they only knew! I realize low carbing isn't for everyone - some people lose weight just fine on a low fat, high carb diet. I wasn't one of them. So thanks, Suzanne for your no-nonsense approach for me and all those other carb-sensitive people out there! Many of you have asked about more info, tips, recipes. You may want to check out ivillage.com's new Suzanne Somers message board - it's found under the "Fitness and Beauty" board at the site. Happy Somersizing everyone!
