Summary: Saved Me from Obesity Surgery!
Review: I have been obese for 25 years. The only diet that I could stay on (for 6 months) was the all-protein diet, but it left me craving carbohydrates & I quickly regained. I didn't hold out much hope for yet another diet, but the low-glycemic way of eating has been a miracle for me. Montignac deserves a lot of credit for being the first to popularize this idea. His book is very French, so you should probably also get the book "Glucose Revolution".

I ignored some of his ideas, like not eating fruit with meals, and I do keep to 1200 calories a day, which is easier for me than following his exact plan. (Counting calories is second nature to me by now.) But I immediately stopped being hungry and craving all the time. I've lost 55 lb. in 6 months, and I don't exercise at all. Yeah, I know I should, but this proves to me that skinny people are not thin because they are "active" and morally superior to us, but because they don't get that insulin surge after eating that we fat people do. I still have 80 lb. to go, but I have no doubt that I will succeed and keep it off, because this way of eating does not feel like deprivation at all. (Buy yourself a bread machine & make your own whole wheat pizza. Tastes as good as a pizzeria's, and without the white flour crust, you will be satisfied with just one or two slices!)

I thank God that I discovered this book before I submitted myself to a stomach stapling operation.

Summary: A Wonderful Book, An Intelligent Book, A Lifestyle Book
Review: In July 2000, I bought this book. I am 42 years old and after struggling all my life with a weight problem, finally something that works!! I have lost 30 pounds and I just cannot believe that something so easy to follow has netted me this result. I will eat this way for the rest of my life.

Summary: A Great Addition to a Well- Rounded Program
Review: "A Reader" who submitted a review on April 27th is, for lack of a kinder or gentler word, a dope. No one book is going to give everyone the answers to thier problems, and frankly, psychological problems surrounding obesity will likely require something other than book reading to resolve. The author is french and he speaks to the variety of ingredients one can use to cook with, few of which to my knowledge are decidedly french. Although I adore french food, I never cook it at home as I lack the skill to do so, and have had no problem whatever using this book as a guide in my AMERICAN cooking. This book is very helpful, I lost 25 pounds over the course of 3 months, which is a sensible pace. One thing this book is NOT is a fad diet. Montignac espouses eliminating refined food products and bad carbs from the diet and also to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugar. No one, even "a reader", could disagree with this sensibility. Since it sounds like "a reader" wanted a recipe book, I would suggest he buy one.

Summary: Interesting, but not believable...
Review: I read other reviews of this that were good, so I read it. I thought this book was a good "devil's advocate" book on nutrition and weight loss, but nothing more. The foods are not ones you have in your house every day for many of the recipies. Therefore, it's not a good plan to follow for most people.

I think there is some truth to the weight gains being caused by increased insulin levels from sugars, as the book stresses, but I don't think it is the answer for the majority.

The book opposes typical reduced calorie theories that have been long held as truths and I agreed with many of his points in the book. HOWEVER, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone seriously trying to lose weight. I think the only way is through exercise and portion modification.

Summary: Not suitable for vegetarians
Review: The author provides information on blood sugar levels, lipids and other nurtitional advice but at not time did I feel he was telling the full story. The meals listed tended to be distinctly French and so this book would perhaps be better suited to someone who enjoys French foods. If you are a vegetarian I do not recommend this book as vegetarians are given little consideration. At times, Montignac provides seemingly contradictory information. In fact, I followed the diet for a month before discovering a few illogical loop=holes. The main reason I did not like this book is that the psychological factors of obesity are not addressed. Psychological factors are the main reason why people are overweight. IF you are thinking of buying this book I would instead recommend a general well-rounded nutritional book, an exercise programme and most importantly a thorough soul-search for the true reasons for your lack of success with weight loss. Good luck.

Summary: Most inexpensive health club in the world
Review: This book was highly recommend to me from a colleague who lost 35 pounds in 3 months. I was very sceptical and doubtfull about this diet. I am 38 years old with 40 pounds of extra baggage. I have lost 12 pounds in the first two weeks without radically changing my eating habits. I have to entertain clients often and this was the biggest challenge of the whole thing for which advice is also given. I never suffer from hunger feelings and feel great.

Summary: Way ahead of its time
Review: French diet guru Michel Montignac has figured out why so many North Americans are obese. Thet eat too many refined carbohydrates like white bread, french fries, white rice, etc., which increase their blood sugar levels. He discovered this back in 1987 and has been doing something about it ever since: teaching people how to eat properly. It's the same premise that the SUGAR BUSTERS and SUZANNE SOMMERS have copied from him. (Says so in the preface of the Sugar Busters!) Besides, have you ever seen a fat French person? Check it out. Book is clear and fascinating. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Eat Yourself Slim
Review: I have been on a variety of different diets over the years, and the Montignac Method is the only one that allowed me to lose 21 pounds and still have lots of energy. In addition, since I bought the Montignac Recipes & Menus book, I have been able to keep my weight off now for five months with delicious meals. Eat Yourself Slim was a new way to eat. It's easy to understand and I recommend it to anyone who has been in the same boat as I have been, tired of the old diets that deprived me of the foods I love to eat. Those diets also didn't last. I usually gained all the weight back in a matter of weeks. Thank you Mr. Montignac !

Summary: Eat Yourself Slim
Review: I must say that this Method is by far the most effective plan overall for me. I am most grateful...Mr. Montignac has found the key (low glycemic carbs) that gave me great fat loss success where on other programs I met with only moderate success. This is a way of eating I can follow for life! It has worked for me in spite of the fact that I have eaten a little more good fat than is recommended and I do make sure I eat some form of protein with every meal (like cottage cheese with the carb based breakfast or dinner just like the Method recommends.) I do not have cravings, and am satisfied throughout the day (rarely getting hungry before 4 hours or so between meals) and have loads of energy, even at 4:00pm. I am a 42 year old mom who loves to cook and is short on time, with a diagnosed underactive thyroid. Diana Schwarzbein's book and her cookbooks are great companions for me for the Method,(her thoughts on fats in the diet have been of great help to me, too) but I always have to use low glycemic carbs in order for the program to work for me, just as Mr. Montignac has said. Thank you, Mr. Montignac for sharing your Method with America!
