Summary: Wonderful Recipes
Review: After several months of cooking with this cookbook, I consider it to be one of my favorites. I am very puzzled by the negative customer reviews. After reading the statements about how many ingredients were "unheard of" or not available, I read the book again and still can't figure out what ingredients these people are talking about! My husband (who quickly lost over 10 lbs. on the Atkins program) raves about Mrs. Atkins recipes (actually he fondly refers to her as "Veronica") and we have many favorites, including the Shrimp Scampi, Steak with Cognac sauce, Crustless Pizza, Chicken with Mushroom Sauce, the Sesame Breading and Fennel Parmesan Salad. The Yorkshire pudding is also delicious and incredibly easy. All the recipes I've tried were truly, as the title indicates, "Quick and Easy". I've never written a "customer review" before but felt compelled to do so in defense of Mrs. Atkins after reading several reviews which, in my opinion, are totally off the mark. I have lost 20 lbs. following the Atkins program and have never eaten so luxuriously on a diet or felt so great. I highly recommend this book for perhaps the more sophisticated cook who appreciates a European style of cooking.

Summary: Excellent book for Atkins followers
Review: I found this to be chock full of delicious recipes that have the added benefit of being low in carbohydrates. My husband and I look forward to which one I will try next, and thus far each one has turned out delicious. Not for the Atkins skeptic as many of the recipes use sinfully rich ingredients such as heavy cream...as for everyone else, you will surely enjoy. Bon appetit!

Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food have gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. I use to crave coffee in the morning as well but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling & acid stomach. I switched over to a caffeine-free coffee substitute made from soyabeans I found on the net at www.
S o y c o f f e e.c om. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this.

Summary: Tasty recipes that are easy to do
Review: I purchased this cookbook after starting the Atkins diet because I was looking for quick recipes that would also provide variety for my low carb eating. I am totally satisfied with this cookbook. It provides a great guide to shopping low carb as well as lots of cooking tips. I find that the recipes are easy to master and the results are amazing! I have made dishes with wonderful, tasty sauces.Because of my busy schedule, I didn't think it would be possible to produce gourmet results in such little time. Not only do I recommend this book to people on low carb diets, I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a creative cookbook with easy recipes that resemble restaurant-style eating. Enjoy!

Summary: Great, Wonderful! But could use more recipes.......
Review: I've been using this book for approx. 2 weeks in conjuction with the diet. I have enjoyed every recipe I have tried and have found them to be tasty as well as fairly easy to make. Some of the recipes do have higher carb content than I would like, but I just plan ahead and eat less carbs throughout the day--it's worth it. This cookbook has helped make this the easiest "diet" I've ever tried and I can certainly see this turning into a lifelong way of eating, definitely more so than any other plan I have tried. I always knew deep down inside, that I could never stick to a low-fat, high carb diet indefinitely--the thought of that always depressed me. I am now going to purchase his other cookbook on the basis of having such success with this one. I've never been much for cooking, just the basics, so I didn't find the recipes to be tedious or redundant. I loved the creamed chicken w/mushrooms, burgers w/feta, pork medallions in dill sauce, and garlic dill meatballs. I just tried the cheese bread and found it to be very satisfying after 3 1/2 wks (and 17 lbs lighter) with no bread. I just wish there were more recipes. I love this book and I love this way of eating!!!

Summary: The TRUTH about Dr.Atkins death
Review: It is astonishing to read the slam pieces here about Dr. Atkins so-called obesity and overweight condition at the time of his death. Here are the facts:
* He previously had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy -- a serious disease of the heart muscle which is unrelated to diet.
* He died of a head injury because of an accident falling on slippery ice and not of being overweight.
* His actual weight was 200 pounds when he was admitted to the hospital at the time of his accident. The erroneous reports of him weight 258 lbs was based on his weight at the time of his death. The extra weight was not fat, but an accumulation of body fluids linked to organ failure during his coma.
* His previous reported heart attack was due to a viral infection and not diet related. He spoke openly of his condition on various national news programs.
* The report that was released about him being overweight was leaked to the press by a group named "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine", which is an ardent opponent of the Atkins diet. In short, they distorted his weight by reporting the weight at the time of death - 258 lbs, and not at the time of his admittance - 200 lbs...an obvious attempt to discredit and distort the facts surrounding Dr. Atkins death.
* A formal complaint has been filed by the Medical Examiner of New York regarding the suspicious leak of this information to the public by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine."
* The disinformation surrounding Dr.Atkins untimely death is politically driven by the AMA and other detractors of the diet.

Dr. Atkins book, New Diet Revolution has turned the AMA and other nutritional views upside down and has created a furor over the standard edicts of the medical profession. What is not said among the detractors of the Diet is that it is safe and it works. The information contained in this book will not only help you lose weight, it could save your life. The food industry, especially the bread and pasta industry have lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of the low carb revolution. Is it any wonder that this diet is under so much fire? Keep an open mind and read the book.

As a side note, ignor the mumbo-jumbo rantings and ravings of the "Elixir Diet" system (see below). The hatred and mis-information spread by the reviewer is evidence enough that the Elixir system is phony as a three cent penny. Nuff said. The guy hasn't even read the Atkins book!

Summary: Great for the diet....and tastes great too!
Review: It's funny the different opinions on low carb books. I was looking for one, and found that quite a few people preferred Fran McColloughs book, and said that Atkins book was dull. So, I searched out Fran's book at a store (didn't want to wait for shipping). Her book is more for someone that wants to cook gourmet.I was looking for everday meals. Dr.Atkins' wife on the other hand has done a wonderful job with the recipes she has come up with. I've read a couple of other comments on review board. Some say that there are ingredients that are too hard to find? I have no idea what they're referring to. Everything I've read is readily available. The first recipe I tried was the Chicken Paprika. YUM YUM! Then the Garlic Meatballs w/Creamy Mushroom Sauce. YUM YUM! again. Being on Dr.Atkins diet is even easier now! Check it out...you won't regret it. (And, it's almost half the price of Fran's).

Summary: BEWARE
Review: My husband is "doing" Atkins, and this book is great! It has wonderful recipes that ARE actually quick and easy...

Summary: excellent book; agree with last review
Review: The Atkins diet is NOT dangerous -- when done correctly. People screw up on Atkins because they DON'T READ THE BOOK. They don't know about the "induction" (lasts 2 weeks; a couple of days of light-headedness is normal while in transition) and then further phases; they don't bother with the supplements that are crucial to Atkins success. They don't realize the plan is "controlled carbs" not "no carbs." Please ignore the ignorant remarks made by some others and get this great recipe book -- it's a life-saver!

Summary: Revolutionary
Review: The trick of dieting is to keep from being bored while being able to feed the non-dieters in the family something they won't turn their noses up at. The Dr. Atkins cookbook certainly fills that bill.

I tried the garlic meatballs, putting them on a bed of steamed shaved zucchini to replace noodles, and they were well-received by all. There are some very wonderful appetizers (artichoke hearts in bacon wrap) and generally, these are flavorful recipes that keep the boredom away. Yes, I lost weight, which previously didn't happen on other types of diets, so I give this a big thumbs-up.
