Summary: Errors make recipes difficult to execute
Review: The book contains numerous interesting recipes in which sodium and salt are creatively avoided. HOWEVER, a significant percentage of the recipes I have tried have errors or ambiguities that make the recipes difficult to execute. Specifically, the recipe instructions are frequently inconsistent with the ingredients list. It seems clear that not all of these recipes have been verified by independent cooks working from the book. An experienced cook can probably figure out how to make the recipes work, but an inexperienced cook will be frustrated when he/she runs up against one of these problems in the middle of preparation.

Another cautionary note is that many of the recipes are rather bland. Again, an experienced cook can figure out how to spice things up, but an inexperienced cook may end up with a meal that falls short of expectations.

Review: THE NO SALT, LOWEST SODIUM COOKBOOK From Thomas Dunne Books, St. Martin's Press. By Donald A. Gazzaniga With a Foreword by Michael B. Fowler, MB, FRCP Assistant Director of Stanford Heart Transplant Program, Stanford Medical School

The only cookbook whose delicious, easy to follow recipes for everyday food contain 75% less sodium than that achieved by other low-salt cookbooks, including that of the American Heart Association.

The No Salt, Lowest Sodium Cookbook has been developed to respond to new research into heart disease. Only in the past decade have researchers realized that the 1,000 to 3,500 milligrams of sodium a day once commonly recommended to heart disease patients can be harmful to people with congestive heart failure.

When the author of The No Salt, Lowest Sodium Cookbook was first diagnosed with congestive heart failure, the prognosis was for a very short life unless he could have a heart transplant. Gazzaniga, a competition rower, writer and an accomplished amateur chef, began to develop these recipes for all the everyday dishes - even pizza, cake and salsa - but for a diet below 500mg of sodium a day. After more than two years on his diet, Donald Gazzaniga is off the transplant list! He fishes in local lakes, takes regular long walks, and last summer, trekked to the top of Glacier National Park - impossible for a congestive heart failure patient unless his condition has been significantly reversed. Now this book can help others reverse the deadly effects of heart disease.

"(Patients) must have it." -- Dr. William Gentry, M.D., Red Bluff, California

Summary: Canada Lady
Review: The review from the lady from Canada confuses me.
She can get all the "named" LOW SODIUM ingredients online or at local grocery stores even in Canada. I think she's angry at having chf or she's on some kind of war path concerning "non natural" food books.

My experience with the books by this author has been wonderful...m y chf has reversed and I credit the books more than anyhthing. I think she should recant...if the book isn"t what she was looking for as she says, then she shouldn't try to harm what has helped so many of us. Without the help of this author's two cookbooks, I'd probably not be here right now.

Summary: No pictures
Review: This is probably an individual concern, but I prefer a cookbook with pictures. I have noticed that most low sodium cookbooks have few (if any) illustrations. It might be silly, but some people want to see what the finished product should look like. Also, the absence of photographs made this cookbook as bland as a low sodium diet.

Summary: Life Saver
Review: This is the best of the lot. At the author's website hundreds of people tell how they have improved their hearts with this book's help. (Megaheart.com) This isn't just a cookbook. It's a guide to returning a diseased heart back to a healthy one. The author got off the transplant list using his own guide and now, I'm here to tell you --SO HAVE I. If you have heart disease GET THIS BOOK. It's the best of the lot.

Summary: Excellent Book!
Review: This is the only low sodium recipe book that was intended for my heart challenge. I was diagnosed terminal. I bought a bunch of books but settled on this one. Perfect.

After 6 months following the plan in the book my heart got smaller, my EF went up and I'm back at work. Just read the Megaheart.com website if you want to know more.

I already started applying these principles with my own well-being by giving up my coffee habit. I realized having that wired up feeling all day clouded my concentration. Did you you know one cup of joe raises your blood pressure by 14%! Fortunately for me I was able to find a wonderful tasting replacement made from soybeans. You brew like coffee and it even helps lower my cholesterol. I found it online at www. s oycoffee.c o m. Gaining this understanding will effect every move you make from this point on and will bring with it the necessity to share it... THIS BOOK I RECOMENDED!!!

The author helps us even though we have his book. This is a miracle book. Thank you, thank you.
