Summary: I Feel Alive Again
Review: Finding this book and Heather, changed my life. From the very beginning, Heather showed personal concern and interest in my health. The recipes are wonderful, have made all the breads, which I must say, go as fast as I can make them. The best part of Eating For IBS for me, has been a freedom from pain and the anguish of IBS. I can now accept dinner invitations, knowing I will be safe. Before finding this book, going out was something I avoided like the plague. I have recommended this book to total strangers in book stores and health food stores who are looking for relief from IBS. Cannot say enough for this book, Heather and her wonderful, inspiring ways.

Thank you Heather for giving me back my life.

Summary: Thank you for this book!
Review: I just wanted to say- "eating for IBS" has realy helped me out! I have been referring to it constantly! I recently moved to England from the US, and a lot of the "safe foods" I had found in the US (without knowing why they were safe) were specific to the town I'm from (i.e. favourite meals at certain restaurants, sushi, etc.) I have had alittle bit of a rocky beginning IBS-wise upon moving out here, though it is not terrible, the first few months it was constantly present. I found this book, and the IBS website, and have made so many changes in my diet (which were not, in the end, too hard to make) with the knowledge provided about soluble and insoluble fiber, and also from the food lists! (I now drink peppermint tea every day!) I feel so much better these days, and it helps if I am purposefully "bad" and indulge in something I know I shouldn't to know why I am having IBS symptoms. It makes it more controllable, as then I go back to my rice-based meals, for ex, and that is much easier on my mind.

Summary: Relief from radiation aggravated IBS
Review: I have had IBS for fifty years (off and on depending on other factors in my life). It started back in high school but there was no name given to me for it. Then in my thirties it surfaced again and was called spastic colon. Today we know it as our old "friend" IBS. Following massive doses of total abdominal radiation my IBS became totally out of control. Dietary restrictions that I had used in the past did not help.

> I was at my wit's end when I discovered this book. I was particularly interested in the information regarding soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. At about the same time, my doctor had told me to take soluble fiber in the form of Metamucil which I did and it made a tremendous difference. In addition to this, I find that as long as I eat soluble fiber first I can then indulge in a small salad or even fresh, raw fruit. Apart from enjoying my meals more I also feel much better healthwise. My energy level is up and I am feeling like myself again.

Following the recommendations in this book has really helped me. I would recommend that any sufferer read it.

Summary: Real Help from one who knows how you feel!!
Review: When I was diagnosed with IBS nearly two years ago- following an episode of Colitis, I almost starved to death because my doctor didn't give me any advice about eating, except " take it easy".. Heather has been in our shoes and this book, along with IBS the First Year have been life- and sanity savers for me. IBS is one of those "orphan" diseases that no one talks about, and Heather does give you information about what to expect and how to handle the practical aspects of this disorder. The information in these two books should be required reading for all Gastroenterologists and Internists who diagnose this disorder -- Invaluable Patient Resource!

Summary: Can't thank you enough!
Review: This book changed my mom's life, and improved her health and well-being 100%! For years, my mom suffered from digestive problems that her doctors couldn't seem to diagnose. We heard the term IBS mentioned, but her primary doctor wasn't very helpful in providing any further information or help. Then I found Heather's website and her book, and ordered it in the hope it might help my mom. Wow! She followed the recipes and advice, and instantly began to feel better. In fact, she's continued to follow it (almost) to the letter, and has been feeling great ever since. My mom and I recommend this book to anyone whose digestive problems have gone undiagnosed, and have been suffering needlessly. You have nothing to lose, everything to gain. Many thanks to you, Heather!

Summary: A Must For People Who Suffer with IBS or IBD
Review: I have suffered with IBS for over 30 years. Eating for IBS was recommended to me in May, 2002. I immediately started to follow the dietary recommendations. Heather's recipes are healthy, easy to prepare and delicious. Within six weeks, I felt like a person again. I was able to do all the things I enjoy such as going to the city to visit with friends, see a Broadway play, etc. Most important, I was able to attend my daughter's high school graduation. Recently I was diagnosed with IBD-Colitis and this book continues to alleviate my symptoms. Her other book, The First Year IBS is a treasure, as well. Heather's extensive research of IBS provides information and knowledge that you won't get from most doctors. Some information does overlap in both books, however, in my opinion both books should be your IBS "Bibles".

Summary: Thank You
Review: Buy this book if you have IBS. The recipes are delicious and safe. I can finally eat without having to run to the restroom, and by cooking my own food at home I have saved a whole lot of money. I have been dealing with IBS for about a decade. By following the guidelines in this book I have finally found a way to avoid the excruciating pain that can go along with IBS. This book has allowed me to work consistently, plan events and live day to day without having to plan around restrooms.

Summary: R-E-L-I-E-F
Review: I was diagnosed with IBS in 1998 and was given meds by my doctor (which had no effect). I started doing my own research and came across Heather's book. So much of what she said made sense. I tried the recipes and so far I haven't found any I don't like. This book has allowed me to eat the things I love without having to sacrifice flavor or spice. I am so thankful for this book and I can't even begin to express how much better I feel on a daily basis. This book definitely spells R-E-L-I-E-F for me!

Summary: Eliminate the pain and feel like yourself again
Review: I found this book by doing an Internet search on IBS and have to tell you that her advice is sound and it works! I noticed a difference in just a few days and after one week, my stomach pain had gone. I haven't felt this good in a long time. I'm never hungry and I mean never hungry. I'm confident that the reason for this is that my digestive tract is absorbing vitamins and minerals from food that it didn't before. I don't have cravings. Just a day before I started this way of life, I had been eating fried foods, red meat on occasion, dairy and high fat foods that wreck havoc with one's digestion. The author is very much "hands on" and her advice is sound and backed by research. She never makes a statement that she doesn't back up with well-known research by medical professionals.

I can't say enough good things about her books and recipes as well. If you suffer from irritable bowel or if you are plagued with acid reflux, feelings of bloatedness, etc. you need to heed her advice. She is a patient expert and understands based on her own experience. Her books have been recommended by gastroenterologists for a good reason... the recommendations work.
