Summary: You Need This Book
Review: This book has literally saved my life. I have had IBS since 12 years of age. It steadily grew worse and worse to the point where I was having very severe IBS attacks nearly every day. The symptoms included everything from abdominal pains to gas to many an hour in the bathroom. Very painful and long lasting. In what was getting to be a desperate search for help that no doctor had been able to give me, I found this book. I started the diet immediately and had instant results. I have lost unneeded weight and so far this year, have had only one, yes just one, IBS attack. If you have any IBS symptoms or even just a "touchy tummy", you need this book. It saved me, it can save you.

Summary: Eating for IBS
Review: An exceptional and very very helpful book. I badly needed to locate correct information about the type of diet I would now have to be eating. I ordered two other books, on the same subject and was very disappointed with them.

"Eating for IBS" seemed to be written especially for me. The author knew exactly what she was writing about. She cited her own experiences, and some were identical to what I have and am experiencing. I felt hope and relief, that someone wrote such an outstanding book to help people who have and are suffering with IBS. The recipes are well written, and the author provided information about eating and out, which can be difficult for IBS suffers.

Summary: Less bloating, cramping, and best of all daily elimination!
Review: I just wanted to say Heather's books are a Godsend! I was diagnosed with IBS last year, and was not able to find any relief until very recently. I have the kind of IBS that pretty much stays on the side of constipation with a lot of cramping, bloating & spasms. Unfortunately my doctor has not been very helpful, or supportive of helping me deal with IBS. He gave me some tips that were somewhat helpful, but I still had a lot of problems. I have read Eating for IBS, and I am currently reading The First Year IBS. Both have been so helpful in helping me learn how to eat differently. I have been currently eating the way Heather advised for about 3 weeks now, along with taking Citrucel. Oh my goodness, it's like night & day, I have seen such an improvement in how I feel! Less bloating, cramping, and best of all daily elimination! Relief! Haha! Heather, may the Lord bless you for helping others! Thank you again! - Julie Romero

Summary: How "Eating for IBS" truly did save my life
Review: I cannot begin to tell you how much"Eating for IBS" has truly saved my life. When you are told that you have IBS, you are glad to have a name for the disease but few Drs know anything to tell you to do other than try this medicine or that medicine and "just live with it". I did luck out because my dr's nurse, Shirley is a godsend. But she did not know exactly what to tell me either for day to day living. My daughter came across Heather Van Vorous's web site & sent me to it. I devoured all the info there & immediately ordered the book. It has become a second bible me. It has so much info for everyday experiences & how to best deal with them AND it is written by someone who has been there - not just studied about it. At first I had no self-confidence about going out in public & not disgracing myself but with Heather's help I did take those steps & it wasn't so bad & the more often I tried the better it got. We have just come back from a 2500 mile car trip and it was a SUPER experience. As Heather says in her book if a restaurant is not interested in helping you with your special menu - get up & leave. Most are very eager to help though. Without Heather's wonderful book with so much info & my good luck in having a wonderfully understanding husband, I would still be stuck at home in the bathroom. If you have IBS you cannot afford not to read this most helpful book.

Summary: This book is a lifesaver!
Review: Dear Heather:

I wrote to you thanking you a couple of weeks ago regarding the Eating With IBS book you authored.

I cannot tell you how changed my husband's life is ...IN SUCH A SHORT TIME!

He is eating and sleeping and enjoying life again.

Thank you so much. I hope to keep in touch and give you some updates and maybe even some recipes..My husband is a gourmet chef and photoghaper, by hobby with a passion for both. We own a Communications & Public Relations Firm, er go his stress levels.

Anyway, He is starting to enjoy eating again, and feeling creative so He may start dabbling in the kitchen and try to create some IBS safe dishes...maybe we could repay your 'life giving' favor by sending along a few new recipes in the months ahead.

Here's hoping that this note finds you as happy and healthy as my husband is feeling these days. Once again many many thanks
(I can't seem to say that enough)!! You and your book are tryly lifesavers!

Maribeth (a very grateful wife)

Summary: This book helped save my life!
Review: I bought this book about 3 years ago. At that point in my life I was desperate. I had been diagnosed with IBS 6 years previous to that. I had lost a lot of weight and could not eat anything without having severe IBS symptoms. I didn't want to eat because I knew it would make me sick. I was basically anorexic. After numerous tests and medications, my doctor told me "there was nothing else she could do for me. I had to learn to live with it." I found this book on the internet and started eating only the foods in the section "What to eat when you can't eat anything". It helped a little but I was still miserable. I did a lot of research on the internet and found that the drug Elavil had helped some people. I got a second opinion and asked for the drug. With the combination of the Elavil and the diet in this book my symptoms began to lessen over the next 9 months. After about a year on Elavil and following this book my symptoms were almost completely gone. I have been able to figure out what my trigger foods are (red meat, chocolate, raw fruits and veggies) and avoid them. Now that I know my trigger foods, I am happy to say I have quit taking the Elavil and my symptoms have continued to be controled by the diet in this book for the past 4-5 months. If it wasn't for this book I would've probably been hospitalized for anorexia from trying to avoid the severe IBS symptoms. Thank you Heather! You saved my life!

Summary: This book has been a lifesaver
Review: After reading this book, I e-mailed Heather and she was kind enough to answer me with some good advice. I had been deeply entrenched in a bad cycle and had lost a lot of weight. When I began to follow Heather's advice about diet and fiber supplements for IBS, I felt better relatively quickly and began the process of regaining some weight and my energy. I am so glad that I dicovered Heather's books and all the other resources that she has made available to those of us who have suffered alone, too embarassed to talk about it - (message boards, newsletters, even personal help if you need it) I feel that I am now on the road to normalcy.

This book carefully explains the differences in the types of fiber and how to incorporate these into your diet to achieve the best results. This information has been a lifesaver for me. I even drove my 10 year old to an open house at a university that is over 2 hours away! This was a major victory for me! (Anyone who has IBS knows why). Thanks Heather.

If you have IBS, don't wait another day, get a copy of this book and get on with your life!

Summary: Heather knows whereof she speaks - her remedies work!
Review: I suffered from bloating and did alot of research myself to find out what it was. I explored books on IBS because the symptoms seemed to mirror some of mine. Of all the books I looked at, NONE had the wisdom that I found in Heathers book. She has lived through it and she knows that ,though many of the symptoms seem strange to someone who has not experienced them, that they are real. The other books I looked at were mostly by Doctors or Research People who explained all the clinical stuff but could not offer practical advice as it related to diet - they just recommended drugs. I have tried some drugs, for me they do not work and the side effects just make things worse. Heather goes into great detail. I had been using Metamucil which is recommended for IBS but not for bloating symptom. She says to use another product instead, and it changed everything. Also the peppermint tea remedy works great for most IBS patients, but again if bloating is the major symptom, she recommends fennel tea. Again, it made a huge difference. I highly recommend her book and urge readers to read it carefully for small things that can make a huge difference. I have re-read and re-read portions to refresh my memory. I always discover something new that I did not recall. An excellent book - I owe a great deal to Heather.
