Summary: JUST ANOTHER TRENDY DIET BOOK!
Review: A lot of readers will probably not be happy when they see the rating given to this book; however, being honest with readers is far more important to me than my reviewer rating, so I am going to be completely honest and give this book the rating it deserves - one star!

This is just another "trendy diet!" Anyone with an ounce of common sense will know, as medical studies have proven, eating rich fattening foods, i.e., creamy sauces, deep fried foods and tempting deserts is not going to melt the pounds away - no matter what combinations you use! I guess if you broke a dime-sized crumb off the piece of your favourite deep-fried chicken, and that is all you ate for lunch that day, conceiveably you could lose weight; however, you might be a little hungry by the time the evening meal rolls around.

Believe me, anyone with the financial resources of Suzanne Sommers, has the means to work out at the best fitness centres in the country, relax in the world's greatest spas, train with the best trainers on the best equipment, diet with the best health experts, and... write a book!

Trendy diets, such as this one, may initally take the pounds off - if you are lucky, but they will not KEEP the pounds off. What many people do not understand is that the body metabolism is different in individuals, depending on many factors - age, genetics, etc. The only thing that will keep the weight off is disciplining yourself, and having the commitment, to make a long-term change to a healthier way of eating and living - and that works!

Summary: Great recipes, but almost the same info as Books 1 & 2
Review: I have been Somercizing for about 3 months now, and have lost over 25 pounds. This is the best way of eating to lose weight I've ever tried. And I've tried them all! In this book, Suzanne gives a lot of information already in her first two books, but this one has a a bit more information about the differences between her "eating plan" versus Atkins, Sugarbusters, Protein Power, and other low-carb diets. This book outlines the basic guidelines of Somercizing, just like the other 2 books. The BEST part of this book (and worth it if you've already started, otherwise get the first 2) are the recipes. Some are also very similar to a few in the other books, and some are actually the same from the other books. But there are some great Level One recipes here.

Summary: Great Fitness Book
Review: This is a fantastic diet book that allows you to maintain eating great tasting but healthy meals. She's great at explaining how it is easy to eat what you want as long as you are sensible about it. It allows you to live your life without having to feel like you have a weight-loss chain around your neck. If you follow her instructions you'll slowly begin to think about it less and it will become a lifestyle. I'm almost at my ideal weight, but truthfully I hardly think about it any more. I'm just living healthier generally and it's due to this one easy to follow guide.

Summary: To "A Reader from Utah" 6/01
Review: I use the term "reader" loosley because based on your comment, I doubt you read Suzannes book. She DOES NOT ADVOCATE THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS! To the contrary, she encourages the reader NOT to, but if they must have some to use in moderation. I have been on the program for three weeks and have lost 11 lbs and have not felt hungrey, no more indigestion problems (I have 3 typs of meds for that), and generally feel better. I knew sugar was my enemy, but Suzanne helped me understand why. Other books may do the same, but Suzanne put the information in laymans terms so the majority of us could understand the theory. She also does not encourage eating large amounts of fat, but tells you what fats to stay away from and what ones are safe. You may want to do more research with other books, but if you want to easily understand how to go about losing weight and not feel deprived, give her book a try.

Summary: Wonderful philosophy and recipes
Review: Molten Chocolate Cakes. The best coated chicken dish I've ever eaten--we have it at least once a week in my house.

Somers, a Palm Springs part-timer, has terrific insights on raising kids to like food other than bologna sandwiches and fruit roll-ups. We are all eating too much sugar and it's poisoning our society. We have convinced ourselves that diet food can't taste good. Wrong! Why are the French and Japanese so healthy? They are light-years ahead of us in eating habits. So is Somers.

Summary: Just plain delicious!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I like ms. somers *chatty* and conversational style of writing. I enjoy the glimpses of her life in the pictures and anecdotes and I like that in one cookbook or another she gives recipes for her pre-made food.

That said, altho this diet worked for many people, it didnt work well for me. In spite of that I enjoy every new book she writes as the recipes are tasty and womderful. They have easy to find ingredients and not over complicated requirements. The *protein* recipes would fit into any low/no carb diet plan as well as some of the most fabulous *diabetic* desserts i have ever seen. Her focus as a sweetener is somersweet which i have never bought due to cost (and shipping on top of that). You can use other sweeteners with little trouble in most cases (except foods that need to caramelize are a bit trickier)

The diet has food combining aspects as well as it being *for most people* a fairly high protwin/low carb diet. It isnt considered by her to be low carb and she encourages healty whole grains and fruit....However.... People can lose wieght eating high protein in an unlimited fashion... The same cant be said for eating carbs. The fewer carbs you would eat on this plan... the faster you would lose weight. The forward is by an MD, dr schwarzbein who has a whole other diet plan... which isnt the same as suzannes...which is a bit odd, i think. It seems she is endorsing 2 ways of eating...fully.

I do have to say that both plans emphasize *whole* foods and getting *hormonal balance* back in your body while trying to manage insulin spiking. But the plans ARE different, so i think her doing the forward is just a bit odd.

With everybook there is a more detailed discriptin of the eating plan and why it works and why it is good for you. In all honesty, alot of people buy all her books and the ever expanding section on the diet is redundant. I wish she would come out with a cook-book alone...with just a brief discription on how to *smersize*... (in the way that weight watchers give a brief discription before their cookbooks) There a a good number of recipes in each book, more and more each book. I think what would be most helpful would be a cookbook, at this point without the redo of chapters devoted to somersizing.

Summary: Isulin Resistant?
Review: Suzanne Somers did it again. Eat, Cheat and Melt the Fat Away is such an inspiring and well written book. You definitely learn the do's and dont's for eating. The recipes are by far one of the best parts of the book. Once you've purchased one of Suzanne's books, you'll want them all.
