Summary: I ate, cheated, melted and went broke!
Review: Don't get me wrong, this diet worked for me and many others whom I have spoken to. But if you don't follow it to a "t", then you are doomed to gain weight, which is what happened to my mother, who followed the diet and snuck a few pieces of non-sugarless candy when I wasn't looking.

This book doesn't once discuss the issue of salt intake, and everything in the diet basically contains a high amount of salt. For example, cheese is basically the only snack you can eat when you have a sugar craving (and the waxy sugarless candies). If you are watching your salt, then maybe this diet isn't for you. I found myself cosuming tremendous amounts of salt and going out of my way to buy special breads and pastas that were a lot more expensive than the usual brands that you see like Golden Grain. You will end up spending most of your shopping time at Trader Joe's to find these special wheat and sugarless items, I ended up spending twice more on groceries than I usually do..but I guess it's worth it to people who want to really lose the weight.

Another problem I faced was eating out at resturants. You have to eat foods that were cooked in certain oils and shove the hot n' steamy bread basket aside. I found myself asking the waiter more questions than was necessary.."Is there sugar added in the sauce? Is there carrots in that salad? (you can't eat carrots on this diet)Is there sugar in the dressing?" Most of the time, they don't know the answer, so you have to risk your diet.

Believe me, it works. I lost about 7 pounds in one week alone eating fatty foods. Try it out for a month and see if you like it, but I have a few tips:

Read the book at least two times before you try the food!Understand what Somersizing is about!
Take notes, post the notes on the fridge
Get a friend to join in so you can compete with eachother =)
I STRONGLY urge you to participate in the www.suzannesomers.com message board where people offer recipes and advice. (tons of help!)

Get another full-time job (at Trader Joe's) Just kidding..

Summary: Bought it Just for the Recipes!
Review: I happen to own all of the Somersize books. This one has many lovely recipes. A great deal of the information about getting started is a repeat from past books, but that is a necessity for readers who may be reading about her program for the first time. This program has helped me lose and keep 10lbs off. That may not be much, but I now know how to immediately get rid of it, if it starts to creep back on. It's nice to be in control. If you have never tried this program I would recommend buying "Get Skinny on Fabulous Foods" It has a more in depth coverage of the program. I had to have this one for the new recipes though. My family's favorite are the Buffalo Wings. Yum!

Summary: IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT FOR "NO REASON", TRY THIS!!
Review: This inspiring book literally worked miracles for my family. I was living at the gym and on low or no fat food, and expanding daily. No matter what, the scale went UP. After buying this book and following Suzanne's principles not even to the letter, we lost more weight faster than any diet pill. It is truly unbelievable, and has very sound advice. She does not recommend giving up carbs like some other diets do--I eat plenty of carbs and more food then ever and the weight melts away. I recommend her other books as well. The recipes are delicious too!

Summary: A big disappointment! Suzanne Somers products are top notch
Review: I expected her book to be top notch......I was very disappointed.....if you haven't read all her previous books you will not understand this one! I have no idea what Level One and Level Two are. A few less family photos and more receipes would of been a nice touch! Again, I am sorely disappointed in Suzanne, expected so much more.

Summary: This really works!
Review: I bought this book and waited 6 months before I decided I was going to do it. I am so glad that I did. In 3 weeks I have lost 15 pounds. I can feel the difference in my energy levels. The recipes in the book are a little pricey for a college student like myself, but most of them are simple enough to make. The one downfall is that you really have to be willing to follow the rules without cheating for this to work, but it will work and I am proof.

Summary: This book and diet plan really does work!
Review: Suzanne Somer's diet really does works.

I weighed 223 pounds over two months ago and now I weigh 210 pounds(September 1, 2001) and still losing. I also exercise three times a week and try to keep off the sugary foods.

I have a semi-paralyzed stomach which I have to take pills to make my stomach push the food through my system. I have not taken one pill since I started this diet and I have been able to eat an entire meal and not once did I have problems with the meal itself and I'm losing weight at the same time.

Update to this review: I went to my family doctor on November 7, 2001 and my weight is now under 200 pounds. She's thrilled about how I lost weight and I told her about the diet I'm on. She's very thrilled about my weight loss. She's even interested in the diet for her more chubbier patients and herself.

Summary: This book is for real.
Review: I bought the book after a person at our church introduced me to it. I had just been to the doctor and was told to go on a low fat low cholesterol diet. I weight 342 pound and was developing high blood pressure. After reading the book I decided to go on and Somersize. it has been 10 weeks and I went to the doctor and weighed this week and had lost 31 pounds and 4 1/2 inches in my waist. My blood pressure was down to 117/74, down from 154/94 at my last visit. This is not a diet it is a way of life. After 10 weeks we are in a mind set that this will be a way of life from now on. My goal is 250 by May. I would encourage everyone who has tried to lose weight to try this. Like anything you have to make up your mind that this is going to be your life style. Good luck.

Summary: To "A Reader from Utah" 6/01
Review: I use the term "reader" loosley because based on your comment, I doubt you read Suzannes book. She DOES NOT ADVOCATE THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS! To the contrary, she encourages the reader NOT to, but if they must have some to use in moderation. I have been on the program for three weeks and have lost 11 lbs and have not felt hungrey, no more indigestion problems (I have 3 typs of meds for that), and generally feel better. I knew sugar was my enemy, but Suzanne helped me understand why. Other books may do the same, but Suzanne put the information in laymans terms so the majority of us could understand the theory. She also does not encourage eating large amounts of fat, but tells you what fats to stay away from and what ones are safe. You may want to do more research with other books, but if you want to easily understand how to go about losing weight and not feel deprived, give her book a try.

Summary: Delicious!!!
Review: All of her recipes are so delicious and easy to make. My husband and I have been following the plan and losing those extra pounds without feeling deprived. It's really an exciting program for people who truly love cooking and eating. The program is very simple to understand and apply to our lives. I highly recommend this book if you have tried diets, lost weight and gained it back again. Suzanne is very funny throughout the book too. She seems like an amazing person to me. You go Girl!

Summary: getting it together with the truth
Review: since i found this book, its been a god send. The truth is finally out.get off the low fat bandwagon, its going to kill you. in order to fuel healthy cells,so they dont get weak and turn cancerous,we need healthy natural fat.sugar turns to fat storage to be burned later, but has no chance if you eat more carbs.Like suzanne says "insulin is the fat storing hormone" therefore if you eat fats without carbs means you cant store fat since no insulin is present, and you will burn off fat stores.and since fat takes longer to digest, you dont get hungry. My mother, mother in law, and i have had great results!
