Rating: Summary: Not a trendy diet based on science Review: I have read a lot of misguided reviews and have let many pass, however to the reviewer from Prince Edwards Island that wrote that Suzzanes book is a "Trendy diet" I must respond. Since it is obvious that this reviewer did not read, or barely glanced at the book. First off most of the book is dedicated to exsplaining why this way of eating works, based on scientific research. I do not belive that, that reviewer even read the forword by Dr. Schwarzbein , the forword in itself would have put that "Trendy" arguement to a rest. There is nothing "Trendy" about this it is quite sound and down to earth. Suzzane gives you the tools needed to build the body that you want, she also exsplains to you in laymans terms why this works. If the reviewer from St. Paul had bothered to read the book she would know that no where does Suzzane say it's a diet, she very openly states that this is a way of life. If you go back to eating the starches and sugars the way you did before you will look like you did before. I have lost all the weight I wanted to lose following Suzzane's plan out lined in her books. If I eat like Iate before I will gain weight, do I cheat with the foods I loved before? Yes! The difference now is that I know how to keep my figure, without fatigue, my body is getting the nutrition it needs to function properly, and I'm not going hungry. That reviewer has review over 600 books I hope she read those books and gave them a honest informed review.
Rating: Summary: Finally, a program that works! Review: I had tried various programs and over-the-counter supplements with little to no success. In fact, I bought Suzanne's first book but didn't get around to reading it for awhile. When I finally decided to give it a try, I was amazed at how easy it was and I personally dropped 10 pounds in two weeks. I could comfortablly fit into my jeans in no time. The concepts are a little controversial but the program works if you stick to it and it is endorsed by a medical doctor. It is easy to learn the basic rules and you never have to go hungry. I stuffed myself on some occasions and still lost the weight. You get to eat "tons" of meat, vegetables and fruit. What are you waiting for?
Rating: Summary: bogus reviews Review: You would thing a top 100 reviewer might actually read the book before giving it a bogus review. Consumer beware, if a reviewer doesn't mention anything about the content of the book most likely she didn't read it!
Rating: Summary: Has some good information Review: I opted to give it a second try. And admit that some of it is working for me. And my 1 star is now 4 stars...I even have taken issue with someone (physician) who told me that it wasn't a healthy program. I am using what works for me and what doesn't work I don't worry about.
Rating: Summary: Who would have thought 'Crissy Snow' knows best! Review: I have never been Suzanne Somer's biggest fan but after reading her Somersize books I have gained a new sense of respect for her. I've been food combining on her program since January 2001 and have had great results. She is not taking credit for creating the food combining theory (and I don't recall she ever did) but she has simplified the process and made it easy for anyone to understand why this way of eating works. There are no pre-packaged foods or special vitamins to buy. You can do it all from your local grocery store. She does offer her own sweetener that works with the plan but its not essential. The first couple of months on the program are the hardest because you need to rid your body of caffeine and any form of sugar. I had no idea caffeine and sugar had such an effect on my system. My withdraw symptoms were similar to that of a drug addict; headaches, shakes, chills, the works. After my body healed I dropped from a size 10 pair of jean to a size 4 in six months. As soon as I hit my goal weight I immediately went to my doctor and got my cholesterol checked. After six months of being encouraged to go ahead and eat all the foods I once considered taboo for cholesterol levels - it dropped 15 points to 183. I also realized I didn't get a cold or flu the entire time. I lost all the weight I wanted and I've never felt healthier. If anyone tells you its like the Atkin's program - don't listen to them they obviously haven't read her book. You may not get result as quickly as Atkins but its a much easier plan to follow, its healthier and I didn't experience the roller coaster cycles of weight loss. For me this is no longer a diet but my way of eating. Now I properly combine food every chance I get but if I go to a restaurant and want that chocolate truffle cake for dessert, I go for it. Guilt free.
Rating: Summary: Conscious Eating Review: This book, as with her previous two books, helps me to stay on track with my eating habits. Not only have I lost 8 pounds in 9 weeks, but look healthy and not like a scarecrow. The accessories to the books are great too (flip chart recipes, recipes cards, 14 day planner guide). The best part is that it promotes whole foods and not processed, or very little processed foods in the diet. I find myself eating more but never feeling stuffed or tired.

The only program that has ever worked for me and I have Suzane to thank! I have been on her program for 6 months and have lost 60lbs. I will be on her program for the rest of my life! Thank you Suzane!
Rating: Summary: Great recipes and...It Really Works! Review: I have been "Somersizing" for a year now, and have lost 80 lbs. Many of my friends also have this book and enjoy the great food recipes. The key to weight loss is cutting the carbohydrates back and food combining. Suzanne explains the how and why of it in the book. The Foreward by Dr. Diana Schwartzbein, MD, explains the true secret to healthy weight loss. The color pictures of the food are enough to send most of us to the kitchen in a hurry. There are many black and white pictures and stories of people who have lost a lot of weight on this program, scattered liberally throughout the boo, as well as many pictures of Suzanne's family. But it's the gourmet recipes that attracted me and they are truly delicious and IF you follow the guidelines closely, you eat like a king and lose weight quite nicely but retain your muscle tone. This woman puts together a mean dessert, and her Parmesan Chips, Rootbeer Float and tons of breakfast recipes are terrific. Diabetics and people with high cholesterol take note: this book could change your life also!
Rating: Summary: Suzanne does a great job in this book Review: This is a good read. I first bought the book on tape, and wanted more for reference, plus the recipes. Suzanne makes sense of Atkin's diet, you CAN have carbo's, it's a matter of which carbo's and how you combine them (sorry, no white flour or our beloved potatoes). Finally a low carb diet that lets you have a more typical breakfast, eating bacon and eggs on the run just doesn't cut it for me. I love Suzanne and this book is great, buy the tape too, she's a great speaker.
Rating: Summary: Close, but no cigar. Review: No. It goes toward the mark, then veers-off wildly. I, personally, found the Forward to be of more use. Food combining is eluded to, but in true Hollywood style, is so perverted (in the truest sense of the word), that it appears Susanne came up with the whole idea of food combining. Here's why I say what I do: My health history is horrible. I learned all I could, before I dieted, so I wouldn't cause more problems. Susanne outlines the proper plan, yes, but proceeds to turn it inside-out. BASIC AND PROPER FOOD COMBINING is required to build a FIRM FOUNDATION, from where a person can reestablish their Endocrine System (the recipes combine nothing that should be combined)! No wonder, we're all sick! People, I don't have a degree, but I'm able to see plain and simple sense.
