Rating: Summary: Great for the most part, but.... Review: I own all of Suzanne Somers' books, and overall I think this one is great. More information and a little less chit-chat, which is a nice change after reading all of her other books. The recipes are great, too, and much less "gourmet" than in the past. I have already picked out several to use in the near future. The one thing I don't like is the obvious plugs for her products. Somersize items I can understand, but she even talks about her Thighmaster and Ultratrak! To give her credit, though, she does give recipes for some of the products she sells, such as ketchup and tartar sauce. Overall I'd recommend it for the most up-to-date information on a program that really works.
Rating: Summary: Everybody can't be wrong Review: I recently purchased and read this book.....March 1.2003, I decided to go as close to sugar-less as I possibly can. I re-read this book and read some of her other books... So far I haven't lost any weight however... I am not bloated and I don't feel like I am going to explode from all the gas.... I will admit that I will give another review after I have done this program to the fullest, however at this point I will say that I know my body and with the information in this book I will be able to appreciate it even more... I have purchased some of her products but I do make better decisions at the supermarket and resturants... I don't think I will be a stickler but I will try to do the program as best that I can.... I will check back around April
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Amazon always has great prices on books, this is an excellent book! I get encouraged by it, and I've already lost quite a few pounds! I am healthier now!
Rating: Summary: Changed my life! Review: At the age of 20 I have been overweight all my life. Ever since 8th grade I've been around 230lbs and I'm 5'11. So, the idea of dieting always crossed my mind but, it just seemed hard and never a life plan. This book changed everything! It is a diet, but its so much more. I now know a healthy way to eat for the rest of my life. Working out and doing this book have left me with more energy than I've ever had and a new body. I lost almost 50lbs in 4months. I love this book! And, the food is reeaaaally tastey!
Rating: Summary: Best somersizing book yet (m) Review: The recipes are so much better than the last few books. There are things my family are actually willing to eat. "Mac" & cheese, Fettucine alfredo, barbecue sauce, ketchup, even gelatin! Somersizing is a fantastic program. My husband has lost 20 lbs so far and I have lost 14 -- in only 2 months. We're really happy and the food is great. The only negative about this book is that the recipe cooking times seem really off for almost every recipe I've tried. Most times are way too short - for example the Ribs recipe said to cook them 1 hour in the oven. They really needed 2 hours - but tasted GREAT. The only recipe I have tried that I don't LOVE is the "shake it & bake it" coating mix. My entire family had gas so bad after eating that, we actually grossed out the dog!
Rating: Summary: Regardless, it works Review: Regardless of the critics -- this plan works. I have tried Atkins and Weight Watchers and ended up falling off Atkins because I couldn't have fruit, and was just plain hungry on Weight Watchers. I am thrilled I happened to pick up this book. I started following the plan on Sunday, and already have dropped a couple pounds -- that is amazing considering I really don't have a lot of weight to lose. I have really been happy with this plan, and find it has got me cooking again, which is great.
Rating: Summary: To many somersize products Review: I have purchased all the books and videos that Suzanne Somers has produced. This is the first book I find that is not as good as the rest. I feel it is very repetitive of the last 3 which is understandable to a degree. The main reason I am not happy with it is I find there are to many products that you have to buy directly from her. Her past 3 books were more practical to everyday life without having to special order everything from her and could go directly to the grocery store or farmers market. Aslo I am living in Belgium so it makes getting her products on line next to impossible. She will send them however I once paid 100 dollars for a box of truffles!!!!!!!!!!! Lastly, for anyone who has not tried this way of life I feel it is easy because truly it is not a diet.
Rating: Summary: More good food from the best. Review: This newest book has more "homestyle" food than that previous ones, plus more information about health, real nutrition, and a huge section for Frequently Asked questions. Also, for a number of reasons, more of these recipes utilize SomerSweet, her non-chemical sweetner available only online. It's good, I've used it, but it tends to be expensive and I have to wait to buy more. Somersweet does the job perfectly, and until it's available in grocery stores. . .well. But you do not have to have the Somersize food products to use this book--they work well without them too. Even if you never buy her food products--which happened because of public demand for them--you will enjoy this book. Our favorites so far are Cheeseburger Pie, Stuffed Bell Peppers, and Somersized Shake it and Bake it Chicken. You can also chat with other Somersizers at SuzanneSomers.com (go to Community, then Discussion or Chat.) I have all of them. You won't go hungry when you Somersize unless you want to.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE this book Review: I have never read a Suzanne Somer's book so this is a new program for me and I have to say that I LOVE IT! I can't believe that I can eat such good food and not have guilt about it. There are so many options and food combinations that I never get bored. My husband and I have both committed to doing this program for a month -- in the last 9 days we have collectively lost 12 pounds and have done it by eating food that is delicious and cooked the way WE like it. Once you get the 7-Steps figured out (I made a copy of them & put them on my fridge) it's all good. Suzanne explains the role of insulin (fat storage) and it totally makes sense. The hardest part was letting go of my "low fat" foods and having the "regular" version -- like mayo & sour cream! And the best part is that there is NO GUILT when I do eat a big steak or chicken wings. You have to eat the veggies and fruits and Suzanne stresses that in this book. But there are so many ways you can have it -- steamed broccoli is BORING but with this plan you can have broccoli with BUTTER and CHEESE! Salad with bacon, eggs & REAL bleu cheese dressing! I think anyone that is really ready to lose weight and make a healthy lifestyle change should get this book. I am positive that I will reach my weight loss goal and if anyone else follows the plan they will see results too. When I look at my old faves (chips, cookies, pop tarts) there are no cravings at all. Chips are sitting on my shelf and have been there for 2 weeks -- they wouldn't have made it past 2 days before! Suzanne does push the Somersize brand quite a bit, I just laugh - she is quite a saleswoman. But she also gives you the recipes for her products (like the BBQ sauce & ketchup without sugar) and writes clearly that you can buy the products or make them yourself. If you're questioning whether or not to buy this book you need to just go ahead and do it. You'll love it too!
Rating: Summary: I Don't Need to Lose Weight But My Wife Does Review: And Suzanne Somers' great new book is starting to do the trick! I've been curious about the Somersizing diet techniques for several years as I've seen Suzanne (better known as Chrissy Snow) making the talk show rounds. I'll admit I was a little perplexed at first by the Somersize mantra, "Fat is your friend and sugar is your enemy" and initially thought it was speaking directly to me (i.e., my wife is my friend and my girlfriend's the enemy), but it really sums up Somersizing nicely. Suzanne Somers (the actress, not the dietician) nicely details how mainting a fatty diet and cutting out sugar (and sugar producers) and carbs can remove that fat from your body. This fine book contains scientific support, health tips, and over 100 recipes (to include desserts) to help slim you and/or your family down. And it really works. My wife has lost over twenty pounds (she could stand to lose about 40 more) and I haven't had to suffer through some lousy diet with her--I still get the fatty foods I love and my fatty wife is slimming down. Kudos to Suzanne!!! I knocked the rating down to 4 stars simply because there aren't enough pictures of Suzanne flouncing about. Otherwise, this book is top notch.
