Summary: Something's amiss
Review: The recipes sound good, but I've tried half a dozen of them, and they've all turned out really BAD!

Summary: This book meets all my needs
Review: This book is incredible. It combines low carb and crock-pot cooking with delicious, family-friendly recipes. I have been doing low-carb for a year and a half, and it is getting harder and harder to stay low-carb and to feed family and friends in an affordable way. This book has given me some new ideas for low-carb cooking and frees up a lot of time for me. My whole family loves the recipes, so I don't have to cook seperate meals each night! I really love this cookbook.

Summary: Buy more than one!
Review: This book is terrific. We are a busy family of four and love the recipes in this book. My husband and I had not used our slow cooker since receiving it as a wedding present 9 years ago. Now we use the cooker at least twice a week. It is so much fun to use because I love coming home and have a wonderful meal, practically waiting for us!! The side dish recipes are super, too. Even our three-year-old is crazy about the Warm Asparagus and Red Pepper salad. After every new recipe, I end up calling another friend to recommend the book. I keep ordering more copies!! There is always someone new that I meet, following a low carb diet or wanting to use their slow cooker more. And to all of these folks, I recommend picking up the book. So my advice is to order more than one!! It makes a great gift.

Summary: Move over cream of mushroom
Review: This is a great book with delicious recipes. I stopped using my crock pot because everything tasted the same...cream of mushroomy. These recipes don't taste like they came out of a crockpot! I highly recommend this book!

Summary: Fantastic cookbook
Review: This is my new favorite cookbook! I bought this shortly after I got a great deal on a new crock pot and I've tried several recipes from this cookbook with much success (and I'm a picky eater). The ingredients are commonly available and easily affordable plus the recipes require minimal advanced preparation. Even when I've shared these meals with people not on a low-carb diet, they've been well received. I particularly like the breadth of recipes devoted to meat entrees and party food. The "throw it all in the slow cooker strategy" is virtually fool proof. I would highly recommend this cookbook!

Summary: Need more than net carb ratings
Review: Though I am sure the recipes taste wonderful, the carb information is given only as net carbs. People such as diabetics, who truly need to know the count of what they eat, must have the whole carbohydrate count. Relying on net carb numbers only can be dangerous to those who need an accurate count of how many carbs they can eat. Take a look at the numbers on packaged foods, total vs net carbs. Also, temperatures of crock pots vary widely. It would be helpful if the temperature ranges would have been listed, with suggestions for adjusting the recipes accordingly.

Summary: Very Disappointed
Review: Well, I have to say that I've tried the majority of recipes in this book and they have all been bland and mediocre at best. I really WANTED to like it... so I kept trying different recipes. The bottom line: I've learned to make some amazing, flavorful slow cooker dishes from cookbooks, but I can't recommend a SINGLE recipe in this one.

I've been on the diet for several years now, so I do use low carb cookbook recipes a LOT and am very careful to follow the instructions. I use my slow cooker weekly and have found better recipes for free on the net and from Dana Carpenter's books (though I haven't seen Dana's new slow cooker book yet).

A few points:

-- the thai-flavored dishes don't taste anything like thai food.

-- only partial carb/nutritional listings are given.

-- spent money getting special ingredients like canned cheese soup, tapioca, red and green thai curries, etc., only for the dishes to be subpar.

-- too many carbs in many dishes.

-- not enough use of herbs/spices to liven up flavors.

FYI - A few other reviewers have said this, but slow cooker temps really do vary by maker and model these days and the cooking times were way off for my newer expensive Rival 5 qt. with the removable crock (recommended by the authors). Everything burns if you don't watch it - which is a common complaint about the new machines when compared to the classics. Times were more accurate after I went out and bought a much cheaper second crockpot (West Bend, I think). Still, the results were just so-so.
