Rating: Summary: Very interesting perspective Review: I believe each person needs to have the will power to set them selves on a course to a healthy life. Just reading about it is not going to do it for you, but it is a start. Dr. Pratt has some really good points here; it's certainly very perceivable that the "diet" (I suppose a better word could be used here) this book conveys is believable; in that it actually could change the course of your biochemistry and stop the incremental changes in your body that lead to diseases -if you stick to these foods that this book talks about. But seriously, we are talking about a change in your life style here. It's not like a one-time feeding of these foods, but rather a life change to include these foods. No big deal, you can doooooo it! They have done their research, and they put in writing. All that needs to be done now is to believe that it can happen for you. Buy this book to start the course of action that could change your life. [...]
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource. Review: I found Dr. Pratt's book informative, practical, and a good reminder that I should include certain foods in my daily diet. Since I started practicing a healthier eating style 6 months ago, several pesky chronic health problems have been greatly reduced or disapppeared altogether. One fringe benefit was the loss of 30 pounds in that time. I put the diet together myself because I find most health "experts" to be extremists - recommending diets that aren't edible or too difficult to bother with. I found Dr. Pratt's book about 4 months into my diet, and while his book is not some sort of health "bible," he takes an even-handed approach and recommends things that are healthy, easy, and doable. And many of the recipes he provides are quite tasty. Some of the other reviews I read here remind me how much I appreciate a reasonable health author like Dr. Pratt. The nitt-picking pretentiousness of most health "experts" is more than a little off-putting to me. If I had to listen to them rather than Dr. Pratt, I'd be drowning my sorrows in a McDonald's supersized fries right now!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: I found this to be a great nutritional book. Unlike more gimmicky diet books, this offers refreshing advice that is good nutrition for life not next week. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: had to have my own copy Review: I just love blueberries - so when I found a recommendation for this book thru a page on msn - i immediately reserved a copy at the local library - it took four months to FINALLY get it - and as soon as I picked it up I knew that I had to have my own copy since I refer to it often. Very simple premise regarding his "diet" and philosphy - one I can live with. I'll know the success rate of following his 14 foods when my annual cholesterol screening is done. Only drawback since Pratt practices in San Diego is his shopping list in the back of the book is too specific to Trader Joe products. I live too far from a Trader Joe's (and if you look on THEIR web site - the stores are NOT well geographically placed for the general readership of this book). That's my only criticism
Rating: Summary: Superfoods rx (A way of life for my family) Review: I learned of Superfoods rx on Oprah, had to buy the book! Half way thru reading the book my family and I decided to change the way we eat. Its truly a "way of life" not a diet. We had no idea about trans fats and hyrdogenated oils and how they are in more food products than NOT and how they affect your health. We made the change for better health not to lose weight. We are 4 months down the road and know there is no turning back to our old way of eatting. I found that receipes I had from 30 years ago that could easily be modified and enjoyed again! When you eat to nourish your body you'd be surprised how you don't have cravings. I save my blueberries for the evening and just love them!!

Rating: Summary: Holy Superfoods Batman!! Review: I like self-help books and heard about this one. In a nutshell, it's about 14 foods that are very important because of their outstanding health benefits. For me, the best part is the studies in the back of the book that actually support the information. I give it 5 stars easy.
Rating: Summary: Not another fad diet! Review: I LOVE this book, and a big thank you to Dr. Pratt for writing it! This book is all about making your diet well-rounded, and Dr. Pratt's 14 superfoods are foods that pack the most nutrition for your calories. This is a way to get the nutrition that most of our bodies are lacking, and still stay within our caloric restraints. Plus, this book is filled full of little nutrition facts that are helpful in making our diets well-rounded. For example, most people know that it is lycopene in tomatoes and watermelon that is the big cancer fighting nutrient, but did you know lycopene has to be eaten with fat for it to be absorbable in our body? Just one of the many little facts Dr. Pratt offers to enhance and maximize our body's absorption of essential nutrition. I love also that Dr. Pratt gives tips on how to incorporate the different foods in your diet. He makes getting these nutrients very practical and do-able. I have been recommending this book to everyone I know as a way to truly change their lives for the better. I consider it to be preventative medicine for future life-threatening diseases. Plus, who doesn't feel better when their diet is rich in the things our bodies need? Two huge thumbs up from this reader!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book - highly recommended! Review: I love this book. It's easy to read, not something you have to wade through, and it gives simple and tasty recipes and suggestions so that you can start incorporating these foods into your diet easily and quickly. Dr. Pratt makes it so simple to improve your health without a lot of effort. I'm really happy I found this book, and I'm recommending it to all my friends.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating info/difficult recipes Review: I saw Steven Pratt on the Oprah show and was drawn to how simple he made healthy eating seem. I think this book is full of fascinating information on how to eat healthier, and how proper eating can impact your long term health. My only criticism would be with the daily menus. While most of the dishes sound delicious, the breakfast and lunch recipes are far too involved for what most people have time to fix. One lunch recipe took 50 minutes to cook, not to mention prep time. Only on the weekend would I have the time or inclination to make most of those dishes and that defeats the point of adding these foods to your daily life. However, I have found ways to add some of these foods to what I already eat, and this book has certainly made me more aware of what I buy at the supermarket. All in all I'd say it's a wonderful resource to get started on healthier eating. Well worth the money!
