Summary: Very Easy to incorporate the changes into my diet
Review:
That is what i have found. I'm in the back side of 40's. I have taken pretty good care of myself. But as most as we get older you become aware of diet/life risk. I have juiced for years. Juicing is pretty good, but it can be kind of a pain somedays, and you can get overloaded from natural sugars.

I had been hearing about blueberries for a while now, so i was trying to eat some daily. I borrowed this book at thanksgiving, from some friends, and read it in about three sittings. What I have found is this is so easy to change or tweak my diet.

Pratt, isn't talking about becoming a neurotic-food-psycho, where ever item consumed needs to be gamma scanned, or the origin needs to be known.

Real simple i think it is called "common sense" does that still work??, yes.

I like most of the foods he recommends putting in. I'm not a big fish eater, but sardines and canned salmon I can handle. He isn't talking about eating my own body weight weekly. A few ounces weekly, isn't that hard to handle.
I returned to college a few years ago and was required to take an adult health class.

At first i was annoyed as in i don't want to pay to take this class, I'm a finance major leave me alone with this feel good garble. Well colleges are funny, they have this little thing called requirements for degree completion. Play our way or no sheepskin. Well anyway, I have found this Super Foods Rx to fit very nicely with my awareness from that class. I don't look at having a stroke or heart attack as attractive and since the medical field is leaning that life choices can and do contribute to our own demise. Correct diet, or better than prior seems to make sense. Garbage in, garbage out.

I read this book, went shopping, and found the little suggestions he offers were very easy to do. A small handful of nuts, a little more spinach, some Beta, or Omega oils,etc...;
nothing really involved just awareness.

I feel a lot better and the other part is i feel full most of the time. I sometimes build a house for hobby, and am right now, when i do I do a fair amount of my own work. So i get real hungry sometimes the kind of hungry where i almost feel sick and weak. Strange thing with Pratts idea is i don't have that feeling right now.

I tell you for the few bucks this book cost i think i will save it on the backend. If i avoid one medical situation, even with insurance i have a $1,000 deductible, but also overall quality of life.

i hate going to the hospitals for medical reasons, ever notice how when you need to go for medical reason it isn't really a convenient time for you.
I'm strung out, right now on 'Patty's Pumkin Pudding" that and a little yogurt in the morning to start off. I do drink a little coffee sometimes; green tea for me just doesn't have the kick I wantall of the time. Also the Buckwheat honey is little different, ok just different.

I'm glad I found this book. I've said the changes have been very easy and so far I've stuck with the changes. Not really major life changes for me. I haven't done fast food for years already and pretty much cook my own food anyway so tweaking has been relatively easy.

Summary: Title rings true
Review: 'Foods That Will Change Your Life' certainly isn't an overstatement. Superfoods approaches nutrition in a practical way which is easy to implement into your life. Based on scientific facts, but not bogged down in jargon, the book is the best guide to healthy eating (with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention rather than weight-loss). For me, knowing which health foods are best for you doesn't mean I have to stick to a 'diet', but it means when I eat my vegies and healthy meals, I can pick the vegies that are best for my body. I found this book really interesting to read and not at all heavy going. I recommend it for everybody (I bought it for christmas for every member of my family regardless of age).

Summary: Mostly interesting book on certain foods...
Review: ...what is the big deal here? I mean do people really think that eating specific foods will "change your life"??!! Like nearly all diet related books it is hype over reality.

Sure the foods listed are "good for you" in that they contain anti-oxidants and other beneficial chemicals but then so do a lot of other foods. To select only a limited number is stupid and will look even more so as soon as the next wonder chemical is found in a food not in the list.

Summary: Great book, even better info, but food alone won't do it !!
Review: A friend of mine told me about this book and I just finished looking through it. While I found many of the points being made to be of interest, I found the information to being overwhelming. I need something simple and practical. I remember something in a book I read entitled, Flip The Switch, by Jim Karas, who said to simply eat bright and dark. This is good common sense and is a really simple principle to implement in one's daily routine. This same idea is also outlined in this book, only here you have to swim through the overload of details and then figure out you can make it part of your life.

I really liked this book, but if I were not already a student of nutrition and healthy living I feel that I would have to carry this book around on my hip at all times to really get the most out of it. I need something a little more practical and far more simple and easy to use. Also, food alone, is not going to get you there. In Karas' FLIP, he gives a complete exercise program in addition to his advice for eating to lose weight. I've lost over 38 pounds following Karas' program (I'm trying to show up his client Diane Sawyer who's lost a lot of weight too). If you're like me and like this book, but feel it's a little overwhelming to fit into your daily schedule, I would strongly recommend that you pick up the book, Flip The Switch.

All I can say is: It worked for me.

Summary: Let Food Be Your Medicine
Review: As a naturopathic physician and nutritionist, food suggestions are at the forefront of my healing protocols. In a society which depends on refined, denatured and calorie laden "foods," as its main source of fuel, Superfoods raises the consciousness of the importance of including nutrient dense foods to the daily diet.

This book is easy to read and understood. I do, however disagree with a few points. Firstly, flax meal is not a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Flax should be ground fresh daily. Once ground and exposed to light, heat or oxygen, it loses its essential fatty acid component rather quickly.

Most soy products should be used sparingly. Soy is a major food allergen. Additionally, most soy products are genetically modified and may contribute to a wide range of health problems to those sensitive individuals. While soy contains some important nutrients, a greater emphasis should have been placed on the fermented, non-genetically modified versions such as tempeh, miso and natto.

Lastly, Dr. Pratt had stated the devastating incidence of strokes in the U.S., estimating 700,000 strokes annually causing roughly 40 billion deaths a year!

Interestingly, that amounts to over 5,700 deaths per stroke. Considering the fact that the world population is about 6.5 billion, Dr. Pratt paints a rather ominous consequence of strokes.

Summary: Lots I didn't know about!
Review: At 58, I've read a lot of nutrition and diet books in my life. This is one of the best. It's clear, understandable and offers new information, at least to me. Each of the 14 superfoods has its own chapter. The information is easy to understand for neophytes and armchair "nutrition experts" alike. For many readers, it reinforces the good reasons for continued selection of foods we already eat. It also "introduces" foods like pumpkin, walnuts, black and green tea, and others that I've just now added to my menu. I'm really excited about all the healthful reasons to continue eating beans, broccoli, wild salmon, nuts and much more. Really a worthwhile book. I've recommended it to my family and friends.

Summary: Eating Right Made Easy
Review: Dr Steven Pratt has made eating right easy to understand and easy to implement. I normally don't like to read nutrition books but this one I couldn't put down. I now know what I should eat and how big or small the portions should be. Which foods help your heart, eyes, inflamation etc. All the foods he talks about can be found in your local grocery store you don't need to go to a health food store unless you want organic food. If you know nothing about nutrition or know a lot, this is the book for you. He makes it so easy, even adding receipes and daily menus. I hope he will write another book!

Summary: Not completely accurate
Review: I agree with almost everything in this book, but one thing; apparently Steven G. Pratt and Kathy Matthews are not up on current research with regard to soy!!!

There is a lot of research indicating that soy is not good for you, especially soy milk and tofu. It is so over-processed that it brings with it issues that any over-processed food brings.Read Joseph Mercola's articles on soy or Life Extension Foundation's articles.....the list is growing.

Summary: A life changing book ! worth it's weight in Gold !
Review: I became interested in the book because my father has macular degeneration. I bought him a copy and one for myself.
I followed the recommendations after eating the fourteen foods, for fourteen days, I felt a renewed sense of well being, health and energy. I'm a busy bridal hairstylist in Toronto clients have noticed a big change and want to know my secret. I love to share the good news, and pass it on to help everyone I can. My friends, family, and over 20 clients have taken my advice and tried this great book, and are excited as I was. It only takes a few days of eating the fourteen foods to see and feel the great results. Not to mention the long term benefits of the life changing foods. If anyone would like to e-mail me on this book I would be more than happy to answer any questions. www.bridalhair.com
