Rating: Summary: Recipes are excellent for those suffering with hypoglycemia Review: I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and recently with hypoglycemia. My dietician has me on a special way to eat. Small meals every two and a half hours. I needed some help in finding recipes that are low in sugar and would complement the protein to carb ratio that my dietician recommended. The Eating for Life was a miracle! The recipes gave me the guidance I needed in preparing meals for my hypoglycemia. My two most favorite meals are the Salmon with Spinach & mushrooms & sweet potato and also the shrimp scampi. This is not a diet it is a lifestyle. The Eating for Life book has the place of honor in my kitchen on my cookbook stand. The recipes are easy and delicious. I began eating the recipes on October 19, 2004. I have lost 10lbs. I do exercise 5 days a week with cardio and weight training. I hope Mr. Phillips comes out with another cookbook. This is truly a way of life. I have more energy and do not crave carbs or sugars any more. I used to binge because of the hypoglycemia, but no more. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Michael L. Johnson Review: "Body for Life" works and I'm a living, breathing, ex-beached whale example. "Body for Life" had some recipes but nothing like this. If you want to get in the best shape of your life buy "Body for Life" and "Eating for Life" together. Yes, it is THAT simple, BUT you have to follow Bill Phillip's plan. If you buy the books and let them sit on your shelf, save your money! Better yet, send the money to me and I'll use it to call you EVERY morning when I get up at 5:30 a.m. to work-out. Rating: Summary: Here's the lowdown ... Review: In the first part of this book he outlines his eating method - i.e. the same principles from Body for Life (but without the exercise information). It's presented a bit differently, but it's more or less the same information. Essentially he advocates eating 6 small meals per day - each meal consisting of a serving of carbs and a serving of protein. The middle part of the book is a cookbook - tons of BFL-friendly recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks. The last third (or so) of the book is resources and reference materials, and "success stories" - the testimonials with before and after pictures which (I felt) made Body-For-Life so motivating and compelling. Overall I like the book, but it's a bit pricey considering that similar recipes are available for free on his web site. Also, I was disappointed that all except about two of the success stories were repeats from either Body for Life or the Success Journal. Nevertheless, I've already started using the recipes and I like the book.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book, Great Recipes, Meals, Pictures. Nice! Review: A gorgeous book suitable for the coffee table and filled with smart and sensible and easy dishes and meals. Really nice and would make a great gift to anyone. Was a surprise. also highly recommend Body For Life to anyone who is trying to make life better, dieting, eating right, any positive changes. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: There IS a nutritional breakdown Review: A previous reviewer had mentioned that a flaw of this book is that there is NO nutritional breakdown of the recipes provided in Bill's book. It's true, the actual book does not provide the nutrition facts, however, if you go to Bill's website...BillPhillips.net and provide an answer to a question to prove that you indeed own the book, it will take you to a section that provides the nutritional breakdown for EACH recipe provided in the book. I just printed it out. I will say, some of the recipes seemed a little heavy on the bread and potatoes and Bill should probably spell out that these items shouldn't be eaten all too often. On a separate note, having personally done a Body for Life challenge in the past, with very successful results, I think the "free day" concept which Bill promotes doesn't work for everyone. It led to all out bingeing for me. Overall, I think the book provides some good recipes and alternatives to the same old chicken, fish and brown rice.
Rating: Summary: It's so easy! Review: About a year ago, I tried to do Body for Life but only lasted a week trying to eat from the list of "approved" foods. But, when my husband and I decided we needed to do something to lose some weight and get in shape, I agreed to try it again. Fortunately, I discovered this book while browsing through the bookstore. The recipes are fabulous. We've been eating out of the book for a week and have yet to find a recipe we didn't like. In fact, I can't believe just how easy Body for Life is with this book - it's almost too good to be true! The serving sizes are perfect for a married couple or single person. There's usually enough for dinner and one or two servings for lunch the next day - however, the recipes could also easily be doubled for larger families. You don't need to be a gourmet chef to prepare the meals. The recipes are easy (most are prepared in 1 hour or less) and some even contain pictures of the ingredients at the bottom of the page. Perfect for people with busy schedules (like mine). An added bonus: the back of the book contains a shopping list and menu planner that you can copy (or download from eatingforlife.com after you've purchased the book). Very helpful when planning your weekly meals and doing your grocery shopping! I highly recommend this book for anyone (Body for Life or not) who wants to eat healthier and feel better!
Rating: Summary: Great book....Great man. Review: As a busy mom of four I've struggled with finding the right solution for a lifetime style of eating and exercise that would give me energy, strength, and a body I was happy with. Bill Phillips with Body-for-LIFE and Eating for Life provided exactly the right answer. He provides simple, real-life solutions that you CAN use for life. I've been using his systems for almost two years and I now fit into my 16-year-old daughter's jeans. Plus I have abundant energy to chase my 4-year-old all day. My husband is using Phillip's programs to gain a level of strength and fitness he hasn't seen since college. Bill Phillip's eating plan doesn't require using any supplements -- you can do it all with real food -- but I've found his products handy, delicious and a good source of fast nutrition. Bill Phillips is a great man who donates huge sums of money to support Make-A-Wish Foundation (he's listed on their website) and the Angel Giving Tree. Bless him and his life-changing ideas for health and fitness. - Elizabeth Pantley, Author of The No-Cry Sleep Solution, Gentle Baby Care and Kid Cooperation.
Rating: Summary: Great Recipes but No Nutritional Information Review: Eating for Life is a disappointment because it is a brand new healthy cookbook and recipe book, but it does not offer the protein, calorie nor any other nutritional information for each recipe. In this day & age most people look for and read the nutritional information. I love the Bill Philips programs and follow them 95% of the time.
Rating: Summary: So good you could almost eat the pages! Review: Eating for Life picks up where BFL left off - and in a magnificent fashion. This 400+ page book begins by teaching you the 'hows and whys' of nutrition - then goes on to make it a no-brainer with fantastic recipes that range from a few short minutes to 3 or 4 hours in preparation time. Only tiny gripe? I'm based in New Zealand and a fair few of the ingredients aren't available down here - but substitutions are pretty easy to find. Bloody marvellous book!
Rating: Summary: Top-quality, very motivational... Review: Everything Bill Phillips does is top-quality. This book is no exception. It's very motivating and has lots of great info. The best part would have to be the recipes, though. Full color pictures for each and every one, simple ingredients, simple instructions. Bill even includes a 2 week meal plan and blank pages to journal your meals. There's also a shopping list that you can check off what you need based on the meals you will be preparing. I love the success stories in the back of the book with the eating plan of each individual. This is a high-quality book--definitely worth buying, especially if you are following the BFL lifestyle.
