Rating: Summary: This book is a scam Review: Anyone who has bought this book, likely bought it over the web and did not see that it is essentially a scam "powerpoint presentation".I am returning this book with a complaint to Amazon and requesting they investigate the bogus reviews on this book. The current rating on this book is mind-boggling for what this book is. I hope Amazon is logging IP addresses for reviewers so this Travis Bradberry guy can be exposed and legal action can be taken. Experts in exposing scams, please search the web on this guy and tell us what you find. Here are the reasons I believe this book is a scam: -Travis Bradberry (one of the authors) published this "book". No legitimate publishing firm would ever touch this drivel. -The reviewers who have rated this book highly seem to be getting roughly the same number of "helpful ratings" for their reviews. In some cases the same review has been entered multiple times. And most reviewers who have given this book a low rating seem to be getting quite an unusually large number of "not helpful ratings". Even though it seems they took much more time to write out why this book is not a good buy. I have browse many books online and find this pattern very suspiscious. Amazon needs to update their review system to eliminate these bogus reviews. -I am an average reader and I literally read this book cover to cover in less than 20 minutes. -In my opinion the content is superficial. I have read several emotional intelligence books. -The fonts are huge. I randomly opened up the book several times and and counted the number of words on that page and found on average less than 77 words. I randomly picked up 2 books from my collection and found at the minimum they contained 330 words per page. Most books contain over 400 words per page. Many pages of this book are just advertisements, reviews and white space. I think this book should actually be about 20 pages at the most. Would you pay 20 buck for 20 pages of common sense text (that has no insight whatsoever)? I won't waste more time on this, but I request anyone who has bought this book to take action in form of complaint to Amazon or legal class-action if you are in a position to do that. Also please return the book immediately!
Rating: Summary: Awakening Review: When, I discovered this book I believe that was the day my fortunes turned. In the week and half that i've read it, I sense a new me emerging. I"ve been putting into action many of the principles in human relations outlined by this book and it seems to be working miracles for me. I find myself to be in better spirits and generally more confident around people. I have recommended this life saver to my family and friends. Let me add, they sensed a change in me.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: Really enjoyed this book. It's a gem. Small and valauble, for sure. I appreciate the absence of unnecessary filler and learned a lot from it. I have a Ph.D. in Biology and am impressed with the concepts and the author's presentation.
Rating: Summary: Great read Review: Last month I was certified by these folks to train their EQ curriculum. I can honestly say that for anyone who is starting out in this field this book is the perfect read. I first read this about 6 months ago and it really got me interested in the topic. Since then my interest has grown immensely as I have seen these principles in action. We are begining large scale initiatives at work, and I think that people are really benefitting from it. I've seen first hand that people are not only trying to understand more about where others are coming from, but also making a conscious effort to use EQ skills to help work flow more freely. This has led to some really fun and productive meetings. Cheers!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I read this book on a cross-country flight and found that I couldn't put it down. I really feel that I can apply the concepts in the book to relationships in and outside of work. I definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Useless Review: I found no value in this book. The book is incredibly basic.
Rating: Summary: Absolute Trash Review: Psychology is a science of putting simple things into difficult words - if there is anything that would seem this saying to be a perfect truth it is this book. If you want to waste $20 flush them down the toilet - better than buying this book. The information it provides is common knowledge - something a newborn would know. And don't even get me started on their EQ test. I will give you a test instead - here - Please tell me what your EQ is - test over - now you know your EQ, right? That is the test these guys give. Can't believe someone actually published this trash.
Rating: Summary: Blueprint for life Review: This is truly a great book that explains that emotion is just as important in life as anything else. It's an interesting way to look at things and I also found the book to be a worthy read.
Rating: Summary: Expensive for what you get Review: I read the entire book (super large print) in about an hour. It had some points of interest. (I'm completely unfamiliar with the EQ literature - I bought this off Amazon based on the recommendations). But unless you're the type who'll go into a restaurant and put down $80 for a salad, move on. The whole book could be boiled down to one of those laminated placards leaving enough room left over for VCR programming instructions :). I'd say its worth $2 - $4. Sorry I can't recommend an alternative. On the more positive side, as I said it wasn't a COMPLETE waste of time but any 2 - 3 page article in a magazine would do as much. (Not to mention all of the many web sites). Not even, imho, a good Cliff notes type thing for those who just want to talk the talk. To paraphrase "Less Filling, More cost"
Rating: Summary: The best emotional intelligence book available Review: I've read several books on emotional intelligence and the Quickbook is the only one that clearly taught me how I can develop my own. It makes a good case for what emotional intelligence is, why it's important, and the brain science backing it up. I found the book readable and fascinating. It's a good summary and the free emotional intelligence test that comes with it is a real plus.
