Rating: Summary: WEBSITE GIVEN WASTE OF TIME Review: The excerpts from the Amazom.com reading give a website and "code" used to take the self test. Don't bother. It says "code has already been used" when you try it. I would assume, being on Amazon, that I wasnt the first to use it. Waste of time. Got me so upset I threw my drink across the lawn. Emotionally unintelligent, yet somehow satisfying.
Rating: Summary: Really great Review: Just got my book and read it. Definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: An intelligent read Review: In this well-referenced book, Drs. Bradberry and Greaves review a growing body of evidence that emotions have a strong influence on productivity, focus, and cooperation. The book is a broad discussion of how to become emotionally intelligent by 1) becoming aware of one's emotions, 2) working with those emotions appropriately, 3) energizing oneself to reach goals, 4) becoming aware of emotions in others, and 5) managing relationships with others. At each of these stages, the authors provides traits of those who exemplify prowess, examples of people who lack proficiency, and suggestions for overcoming difficulties in order to develop competence at that level. This optimistic book provides the general public with tools to develop a key aspect of one's character.
Rating: Summary: A fresh outlook on something too often overlooked Review: This is one of the best books on the market for Emotional Intelligence; because it uncovers the real truth of why many talented (high IQ) persons do NOT succeed in life, and sometimes cause more problems for themselves and for others; and the sad part was that it was never taught at the University level, so I am very glad to hear that at Harvard ( and the University of California and many other excellent universities) they are beginning to teach this tremendously important subject that will give at least 70% of success in everybody life: personal, professional and business life. This book was the answer to many of our questions that we had about business, professional and corporate success, because without emotional intelligence is very difficult to achieve lasting and enduring success. This should be a required text in College, Master and Doctoral programs all over the world, to be able to graduate more integral and competent executives which will have better control over their emotional lives and consequently private and professional lives.
Rating: Summary: Emotional integrity is enlightening Review: Finally, someone who brings the pieces together and is able to precisely define the causes of many peoples difficulties with getting what they want from life. Let's hear it for an intense look into the emotional planes we travel. The book does a remarkable job of pulling together all sorts of life factors and situations -- from health, work and experience to just "being"--and examining the emotional "irrational" realities occuring or interwoven within our assorted experiences. I also really like the online emotional intelligence test that comes with the book for free. Great value and really fun to take the test and see where my EQ is really at, rather than just hearing about the concept abstractly.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, Well-Researched, Accurate Review: This book very accurately describes what else predicts career success besides just IQ. I have worked with many high IQ professionals; some are very effective, some aren't. The authors teach that emotional intelligence is an an additional, and often more important, component of success. We try to evaluate both when hiring people where I work and the book has helped me personally on the job and even at home ;)
Rating: Summary: Stunned Review: I was stunned after reading this book. Realizing all this information that people just don't get it. I myself can really say that it opened so many doors in my life that it is a keeper. I highlighted so many little important factors. It really gave great examples and the way the authors showed me how much I know and how much I don't know and that people blame other people way to much. Its just so important that we think of our motivations and live life to the fullest. Its time to take responsibilities for ourselves. Thank you Drs. Bradberry and Greaves for sharing.
Rating: Summary: A good point for an original idea Review: The concept, the naming and most of this book is original. Emotional IQ is a new way to measure the human psyche and the Quickbook taught me a lot about it without boring me with psychobabble or motivational redundancy. The question of good and evil is next, as in the Road Less Traveled. Social skills and emotional ability are not everything, just like intelligence wasn't everything for the previous enlightened.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating Review: This book reaches its goal. It doesn't waste time yet offers a bundle of information. And the free online EQ test that comes with it is really interesting. What makes the Emotional Intelligence Quickbook unique and very interesting is that it shakes the brains and pushes the reader to think. It summarizes interesting new studies and the graph of emotional intelligence versus rank in a company is fascinating (especially how low CEO EQ scores are!). I like the way the book is written. It gives chance to anyone, whatever his background, to embrace the subject and SPECIALLY to be aware of EQ for his life sake and ALSO for other people lifes' sake. The authors could have written a scientific version of the same book and if they did many of us would not have read it or review it. I consider the Emotional Intelligence Quickbook to be a groundbreaking book because it, for the first time, equivocates intelligence to everyday situations. It brings intelligence out of the "mysterious" and down to an everyday level. It discusses the formulation of intelligence from the workings of the brain to the latest scientific studies, and does so in a way that, although technical in nature, the layman can understand and follow. I recommend it to everybody that wants to get a fresh, in-depth but down-to-earth analysis of the subject.
Rating: Summary: Barely a Synopsys Review: If your aim is to get a good understanding of Emotional Intelligence, read Daniel Goleman. This book is more like a power-point presentation given to corporate managers during required HR training as easy reference to what was discussed. I also believe (as stated in some reviews dated May 6th & 7th) that *someone* out there is methodically referring all competitive books to this page. I seriously doubt the sincerety of the referrals and many of the reviews as well. This book is not worth the asking price at all. Basically, it's an outline of the real meat of the matter borrowed from the experts and summarized. Also, don't be fooled by the number of pages, the text is LARGE and the margins are WIDE! I'm returning my copy. For the same price, I can buy something with substance and lunch to boot! Also note, after every negative review, there is (within a matter of minutes) several positive reviews issued to push the negative review off the main page. This review was followed up by 3 "glowing" reviews within 30 minutes of my issuing it (I'm editing it now). I think Amazon.com should look into the IP addresses of these so-called "reviewers" - this is wholly unnatural and certainly not a matter of 'chance'. I came to purchase the book based on these 'reviews' and 'recommendations'. Henceforth, I will seek opinions about books elsewhere. Nothing about this process seems right, especially after holding this so-called 'WONDERFUL' book in my hand.
