Summary: An excellent book for women of all ages.
Review: All women should read this book because it tells the truth about how women's friendships should be. The book helps you to understand how to nuture your friendship to a healthy state. Women friends should always show unfailing love to their friends even if they have been offended. Jesus showed us unfailing love by dying on the cross for our sins. A lot of us rejected Him. We definitely should be dependent on God. We need to realize that our friends will let us down at times because they are not perfect. It is obiviously not wise for us to depend on our friends too much. This book also helps you to understand how to restore friendships. Betrayal and gossip are the most common destroyers of friendships.

Summary: IT HAS BEEN A MAJOR BLESSING!!
Review: I am not much for reading books, but I heard Dee Brestin speak in person. She really made an impact, so I picked up this book at the library. I could not put it down! I am getting the book for some friends. It helped me understand a lot about myself and others.

Summary: Book Buys into Stereotypes
Review: I found The Friendships of Women recently and couldn't put it down after I opened the cover. I plan to order it for my "Sisters". I most appreciated the Biblical references to friendships, most especially: Ruth and Naomi; David and Jonathan. It gave me a whole new perspective on friendship in relation to God/faith. It also validated my feelings towards other women friends as being "good" and healthy in the eyes of God. It empowers me to reach out more heartily to my old friends and new friends. I take comfort in knowing I am not alone in my feelings, needs, and concerns. I believe the wisdoms of this book will help me to be a better, more compassionate friend.

Summary: Praise the Lord that I am not alone!!!!
Review: I started reading this book when my best friend came for a visit, and I couldn't put it down!!! When she had to go home I ordered the book for myself and what a blessing it has been! For a long time I thought that I was weird for being so emotional and having special love for my friends! It is so good to know that it can be a gift rather than a burden. Thanks Dee for letting us know that our feelings are indeed a blessing for ourselves and others!!!!

Summary: bible-thumping, anti-lesbian
Review: I was sooooo disappointed in this book!! Maybe I am not able to give a fair assessment, because I could not get past the chapter on how lesbian is a sin and "bondage" for women, that they feel guilty about and need help escaping, but the fact that I couldn't finish it says something, too. I expected insight on women's friendships, and how to nuture them, but instead it goes on about the only things that you should depend upon are Jesus and the Bible. It even has Bible-study questions at the end of each chapter.

If you are a born-again, then there might be something in this book for you. Otherwise, it is totally misleading.

Summary: Book Buys into Stereotypes
Review: My church women's group chose this book. Many of us were quite discouraged by the views expressed by this book. She speaks in generalities a lot and seems to buy into many of the common beliefs about gender: Women are catty, men are reserved etc... Sociologist have debunked many of those myths. We found her views outdated. Some men can be catty too. Some men do develop close friendships with other men. She assumes that males and females can be categorized into these easily defined groupings. Experience and research suggest otherwise.
In addition, she uses the book as a tool to disparage homosexuals and condemn "alternative" lifestyles. Many reform Christian denominations would find her Biblical interpretations narrow-minded and too literalist. Personally, I was offended as a married woman by the generalities she assigns to females, and as a human being for the ignorant judgements she places on homosexuals. Her book does not embody Christ's love. It is an insult to any thinking Christian's intelligence. If you are looking for insight into the women in the Bible and a book that illustrates how those Biblical relationships are reflected in today's society, THIS IS NOT IT!

Summary: This is a "must read" book for women of all ages.
Review: This book is one of the best books ever written for women of all ages and stages of life. I think it should be required reading for all teen age girls. The truths and ideas explained in it make you appreciate all of your female relationships much more. While there is nothing more wonderful in life than a wonderful relationship between a man and a woman, the one between women is truly special and needs to be nurtured.

Summary: A God Sent Book
Review: This book shares the insights of friendships between women. It is centered around friendships in the Bible and uses those friendships as examples. I've learned how to nurture the friendships God has sent my way, to be on the look out for new friendships to come my way and that God has given not only me, but every women, a unique gift of intimacy. It has opened my eyes that this gift of intimacy should be shared. Men are not left out either. This book explains the differences between the bonds of males and females also. It points out and explains how different needs are met, by different people, and by different sexes. It's a wonderful book that will help you grow in God, learn about yourself, learn about relationships, learn about how men feel and react. And if you are a man trying to figure women out - this book is for you too.
