Without preaching, Mason tells the story of his stepping away at the last moment from life in a monastery to embrace a life-consuming love in marriage. In a work which is profoundly honest and intimate, we glimpse the spiritual nature of marriage so easily lost in our chaotic world. Mason's openness, honesty and vulnerability, give us a work of incredible love which is beyond human ability to share. I am moved to tears by the love of Christ poured out on these pages.

Review: Mike Mason's words inspires me and my husband to newer depths of intimacy. There are tons of Christian marriage fluff books out there but this is one of the rare few that speaks to our hearts.

Summary: A Disappointment
Review: My husband and I received this book as a wedding present and began reading it with great interest. We were very disappointed. I found it to be a perfect example of overwriting and overuse of adjectives. We also were surprised that in a book about marriage, the topic of family and children barely came up. Surely a book that's advertised as a comprehensive resource about marriage (one quote on the back says it's the only book you'll ever need to read on the subject) should address one of the most profound, mysterious, and challenging aspects of marriage--becoming a family and raising children together. As a resource on marriage and family, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Review: The Hollywood romance machine has a lot to answer for in terms of creating false expectations of marraige. MIke Masons book "The Mystery of Marraige" provides a powerful tonic for a culture bankrupt in the art of developing lasting and intimate relationships. In an age of multiple books on marraige, this one stands out with page after page of material that is striking in it's originality and sharp insights.

His words are readable, yet profound. His book considers the greatest delights of marriage as well as the greatest demands. I recommend this volume to anyone wanting to get a better understanding of how God has created marriage, and how He manifests His glory and His grand design through it. I have read many other books on marriage, but none with this unique, awe-inspiring approach. This work is a true classic!

Review: This book really opened our eyes to the way that marriage should be viewed as well as the ways that marriage should change your life. Mike Mason really paints a vivid picture of God's view of marriage. He uses insightful illustrations that really hit home. I would reccomend this book to anyone getting married or already married. It would make a wonderful wedding gift.

With every chapter I finished, I would slowly lift my eyes, take a deep breath, and just stare off into space absorbing it all. It turns out that the mystery of marriage is in looking at it from God's perspective. (As David T. Moore would say, "perspective is priceless.") Once seen from God's perspective, marriage makes so much more sense and has so much more meaning. This is a book to be read, contemplated, prayed over, read aloud to one's spouse, and given as a gift to couples young and old.
