Summary: The Joy of Habits
Review: I'm not a huge fan of Canfield and Hansen's pollyanna "Chicken Soup" series, but I enjoyed "The Power of Focus". Much like Stephen Covey in "The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People", they tout the benefits of choosing your habits based on desired long-term results and core values. They do this by mining "7 Habits"-type focus, Tony Robbins/NLP-style programming, W. Clement Stone'-ish old school self-helpism, their own "Chicken Soup" success stories and the cultural wisdom everyone knows but few bother to heed (i.e. work out regularly, eat right, etc.). And they do a pretty good job of making a palatable soup out of it.

Like '7 Habits' and Tony Robbin's material, they shamelessly self-promote and offer some sort of 'coaching' opportunity while providing their recipe for getting and staying both focused and in balance. And like the 2 aforementioned authors' work, their info applies to both business and personal improvement. Anyone familiar with self-help books will have heard of much of the material here. I liked several of the action steps they offered (though I'd read many elsewhere) and adopted a few that worked for me. I also thought it was a somewhat inspiring read the 2x I read it and it did help me re-focus on my daily habits (that's why I got the it).

As far as these books go, if you're looking for something new, yet familiar-you may very well find it here.
Also recommended: "7 Habits of Highly Effective People"; Tony Robbins' 'Get the Edge' audio program; "The Road Less Traveled : Discipline (Part I/Audio Cassette)".

Summary: The most practical self-help book I have ever read!
Review: If you only read one "self-help" book, read this one. Focus is packed with usefull stuff without the usual fluff.

Summary: The Power of Focus
Review: This is an extremely powerful book. I have given several away and I am considering giving it to all of our top clients. We are starting a Mastermind Group and are going to use it as our focus to get started.

Summary: Do you want to improve your life?
Review: If so, then this book will give you the tools to do so. It is clear, concise, and a very easy read. It explains 10 "focusing" strategies that are to be used to guide your actions. Then, at the end of each chapter, some exercises are given to help get you started on applying each of these strategies.

Do these strategies work? From personal experience I can give a resounding yes! The trick is, you have to believe in yourself, and the tools this book provides to make it happen. There is no magic, quick fix here. If you don't think it really works, likely you're just afraid to try.

Remember: If you want a better life, change MUST happen; starting with yourself. So, get over your fear, and get on with a better life!

Summary: Filled with extra-ordinary ideas to succeed even more
Review: I just finished reading this excellent book, which was recommended to me by our 26-year-old son who said, "Dad, you've got to read this book." I took his advice and it gave me extra-ordinary ideas to take action on and overcome areas in my life that are holding me back. An added bonus was that I found an excellent story in it to include in the upcoming book, “Chicken Soup for the Volunteer’s Soul.” This is a must read.

Summary: Incredibly Powerful Book!!!
Review: This is another one of those books that needs to be in your library that you can continue to reference. It is filled with pages and pages of incredible thoughts that you can start using today to transform your life.

Here's an example of one that caught my attention...Clearly identify your bad or unproductive habits. It's important that you really think about the future consequences of your bad habits. Consider the long term consequences, and then take the appropriate action to start changing that habit.

Very well written book and worth every second of your time.

Summary: "I loved this book-You will too!"
Review: What a wonderful book on self-improvement. After reading many books in this genre, it's still refreshing to read a winner. The three authors that composed this book share years and years of combined experience. If you want to improve your life, you must focus on where you want to be, and what the benefits will be reaped as you achieve your goals. Change is difficult, I know that as well as anybody. What I do know, however, is that change is possible-and probable if we constantly work on it. One shortcoming that I found was that the book focused more on business than personal improvement. Oh well, the sub-title states, "How To Hit Your Business, Personal and Financial Targets with Absolute Certainty", so I really can't complain. In reading this book, the reader is asked to complete a series of questions following each chapter. I did not complete this as of my first reading. I'm certain that even more can be gleaned from honestly answering each of the questions. I will re-read and assess my life in a future reading. Happy reading!

Summary: Another great book by Jack Canfield
Review: This book just like many of the book talking about success, but it is designed into a more systematic way. Each chapter has an action plan for one to follow. Although many books talk about positive thought and goal settings, few of them can be presented like this book. As I just bought this book from Amazon and already eager to try the methods it teaches. For example, I have many area to be improved, many things to be done, and I have ignored many important relationship. This book is full of checklists and guide me step by step to success, not only in money and career, but my living. You can also find Jack's "Dare to win" and his tape of "Making your dreams come true" worthing reading and listening

Summary: short on substance
Review: Well I read it. Thought about it. Made some notes, and actually slept on my thoughts before submitting this. To date I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from Mark Victor Hansen's work. Although there are some credible idea's in 'The Power of focus', most of the material appears to be somewhat academic, lacking in regular substance and heavily weighed towards this Les Hewitt guy in promoting his Achiever's company. With that I am disappointed. I purchased this book on Mr. Hansen's credibility and past success's of previous work. I discovered a few distinctions however the writing was not as defined, clearcut and experiential as Mr. Hansen normally comes across. Over promoted and underwritten.
