Rating: Summary: A great gift! Review: This book should be a bestseller forever! All of us have times when we are negative and think that everything is working against our will, but if you read this book you will definitely change. He tries to tell you how important your thoughts are. And he is a devoted God's man so the book inspires your religious being too. I read both of these books. Both were great. I love when he says "while you are praying ask for big stuff because God is almighty and great"!
Rating: Summary: to simplistic for our time Review: I started this book after hearing so much positive press about it. I stopped reading the book in the middle of the first ch chapter. the likelyhood that someone will find this book interesting I believe depends o on whether can change by developing and changing his character or whether one can change one's performance by learning quick techniques and formula solutions. I'm firmly in the first camp.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Peales book is excellent, but this version is NOT! Review: This book is so small I had to look for it pretty hard to find it in the mailing package. It has also been edited. It is practically useless!!! My advice, buy another version of the book.
Rating: Summary: didn't work for me Review: This is a Christian book about prayer. And it will work... if you're a Christian... I know it's all based on faith in your self, a faith in success, when it all comes down to it. But religous people have this whacked out idea that anyone can induce faith in their particular beliefs, just by deciding to. The mind is perceived by most people as far more complex, and a rational, meticulous approach of understanding oneself would serve people better these days. Check out the advice of a hypnotherapist, for example. He'll give you visualization and other exercises for positive/successful thinking, without bringing in tainted words like "God" into it. I suppose different books for different audiences.
Rating: Summary: Christian 'Think & Grow Rich' Review: In the words of the author, this book teaches positive thinking "not as a means to fame, riches or power, but...to overcome defeat and accomplish worthwhile creative values in life." Where Napoleon Hill's Think & Grow Rich encourages the reader to get in touch with a generic 'Infinite Intelligence', The Power of Positive Thinking is openly and unapologetically Christian. If you aren't open to evangelical Christianity, this book is not for you. If you are open, this book will help set you free. Based primarily on Biblical affirmation statements, prayer and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it will help you to choose the right attitude, energize yourself, increase your expectations (and reach them), avoid worry and defeat, and focus on the truly important things in life. Humble and not at all preachy, Norman Vincent Peale openly shares his own struggles with negative thinking, and tells how others have helped him overcome it. He rightly lets us know that positive thinking does not guarantee our success, but it does bring it much closer to the realm of possibility. The language is somewhat dated, but the principles are timeless. As Peale says, "The way of life to which this book is a witness is very wonderful. It is not easy. Indeed, it often is hard, but it is full of joy and hope and victory." If you are ready to experience joy, hope and victory, this is the place to start. Rating: Summary: Great Concepts and there is more. Review: When I read this book years ago, I was inspired by it. It is so encouraging. But having been through many of life's disappointments, I have become a realist, and an Optimal Thinker. I recommend this book because it is an all-time classic and Optimal Thinking: How to be Your Best Self as well to learn how to make the best choices in difficult situations, and OPTIMIZE success in life.
Rating: Summary: **-----> Mysterious Transition (part 2)!!! <--------** Review: 3 years ago, I wrote a review describing my "mysterious transition" after reading this book. I was your typical teen who liked "hanging out" with friends, going to parties, and enjoy youth as it is. I had never intended to read this book until I accidentally came across a copy on top of my dad's desk and had hoped to "kill time" with it. Fortunately, I was grasped by such profounding ideas in the first few pages that I kept reading on until I applied Peale's suggestions towards daily activities and my attitude towards life had changed completely! My relationship with others improved, my grades in school became very outstanding, my appreciation for the academia went beyond I could've ever imagined, and most importantly my admiration for Christianity and life itself had developed into something truly indispensable. Keep in mind, I was the exact opposite of everything I had just stated here, in other words, a negative person. Of course, it has been 3 years since I wrote about this and I still refer to Peale's book for specific guidance! Currently, I am attending a fine university and I am STILL inspired to conquer life's challenges and reach towards great goals with humble faith and optimism. Its principles and applications towards daily situations has brought me many victories (externally AND internally!). Whoever you are (worker, parent, student, etc.) and wherever you are, living life to the fullest is yours; it can begin with this book and boy, is it a grand experience when its principles are applied. I absolutely RECOMMEND this book. Hey, how often do you hear about a reviewer coming back TWICE to advocate this book? Like I said 3 years ago, I wouldn't just waste time to write an entry analysis on The Power of Positive Thinking, and neither would the other reviewers. "An inflow of new thoughts can remake you regardless of every difficulty you may now face...'Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.' " (N.V.P.)
Rating: Summary: Love It! Review: This is a great book. I first ordered it through "Talking Books" and listened to it on the computer while at work. It gave me such great insight and encouragement that I just had to get a copy for myself. Don't let the negative energy of the world take over you. Read or listen to the book and get the positive motivation that you NEED in your life.
Rating: Summary: Thinking Power -- Positive and Negative, old and new Review: I like this book, even though it is a bit heavy on the religion aspect for me (not that I mind some, just a bit much). So anyway, I decided to check out the new book with the word play on Norman Vincent Peale's classic title, which is by psychologist J. Norem and titled "The Positive Power of Negative Thinking." It was good, too -- kinda adds a balance and new info to this wonderful classic, so I'd have to agree with the previous advice to try them both as a pair.
Rating: Summary: The book title should be "The Power of Wishful Thinking" Review: This book is dangerous, particularly for naive people who believe that they can achieve anything by thinking positive. When you face risk or danger, you have to explore and weigh the possible negative consequences. I strongly recommend "Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self" by Dr. Rosalene Glickman. This brilliant, realistic book points out the pros and cons of positive thinking. It teaches you how to make the most of any situation and achieve your goals, without wishful thinking. You learn how to ask the best questions to get the best answers. You also learn how to identify and understand disturbing emotions, use them as optimization signals and make the most of them. In this age of terror and technology, you can't waste your time with wishful thinking. Optimal thinking is the optimal path.
