Rating: Summary: This book changed my life! Review: A friend of mine recommended this book to me and she told me "this book changed my life!" once I started I couldn't put it down. I couldn't stop highlighting passages and it really touched my heart! This book changed my life and tought me how being negative destroys us and that we are never alone! that God has a plan for all of us! I recommend this book to everybody now and hope you buy it too!
Rating: Summary: Works if you don't need it Review: I have an intense hatred of this book. I myself am not necessarily all that much of a "positive" person, although I am not overbearingly negative; and I have always found, with Bertrand Russell, that "the idiots of the world are always so sure of themselves while the intelligent ones are so filled with doubts." Peale does not take into account genetics, clinical depression, or any of the other obstacles to being a 'positive' person. And oh, do they get annoying.
Rating: Summary: The Power of Positive thinking USING BIBLE Review: This should be the correct title of this book. This book suggests very good techniques of positive thinking and suggests that every single one should be applied using the Bible. I have nothing against the Bible, I am a Christian myself, and I read the Bible when I want to. This book reminds me those religious people that they always suggest to you: You should study the Bible etc. If I wanted, a book to help me get more from Bible that book would be great.I recommend instead the books from Dale Carnegie "How to stop worrying and start living" and "How to win Friends and Influence People"
Rating: Summary: Good Foundation for Spiritual Habits Review: Any self-help book today will tell you that you that successful and healthy people have cultivated a spiritual side of themselves. Spiritual, (in this context,) does not neccessarily mean only Christian, but instead refers to an ability to be at peace with the larger world around you and with the universe. The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale is extremely Christian in its content, so those who have any type of a strong aversion to Christianity may not find themselves able to get much out of the book. Those who are Christian or those who are open will be able to find a useful book about building one of the most important habits a person can form: the spiritual habit. Peale talks powerfully about visualization, prayer, the value of silence, and thanksgiving. Though Peale talks of these things in a Christian context, one could easily learn about building a sound foundation of spiritual belief no matter what their religion, or non-religion. When I am feeling depressed or having bouts of doubt or negativity, I listen to the CD's on my commute. Some great tips: -Most people who see themselves as "realistic," thinkers, will be shocked to find that most of what they consider "realistic" thinking is actually "negative" thinking. -It is a mistake to think that religion or spirituality is only confined to morals and social issues and not to your own personal success. -If you lack energy or find yourself bored all the time then get passionate about something. Nothing will cure a lack of energy faster than engaging in something you truly into. -Find a few minutes each day, ( preferably fifteen,) to spend in complete silence. The CD version is conveniently divided up into many tracks so that you can easily skip forward to find your former place. Sometimes the audio changes volume a bit between sections, but overall it is a good audio product.
Rating: Summary: The Power of Positive Thinking Review: Fantastic book for those looking to change their thinking and change their life. Should be a required reading for EVERYONE! One must read and believe because everyone has the ability to change their life. Everyone can be happy no matter what they have endured if they read this book and practice it's teachings.
Rating: Summary: Caveat Emptor! This thing's a joke Review: I can't believe I paid $4 for a Christmas tree ornament. C'mon! Someone needs to put the words "MINIATURE" in the title of the product. This one's going in the trash.
Rating: Summary: A classic forever Review: Finding a great balance in life is not easy. This book will help with problem solving those that life presents. I could say there might be better self improvement books - but this IS one of the best. Read it twice!
Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware - It's a Mini-Book Review: I thought I was buying a full sized "hardcover" edition of this book. When it arrived, I was disappointed to find that it was a miniaturized version, approximately 2 x 3 inches. It would make a cute little gift item, but I'm not sure that it contains the entire text of Dr. Peale's book. Buyer beware! You have to dig down a few levels to get the product details and only there does it describe this book as a miniature version.
Rating: Summary: Too religious and not realy practical Review: I started reading this book while I was under horrendous depression and anxiety and wanted to die! Under such a circumstance I would have needed a book that was more practical with techniques one can use right away. This book didnt have that for me. In the chapters I got to read all it would say is that you should pray and pray big. Then it constatly refers to the bible. You decide! If I wanted to read the bible I would get the bible. Then he makes too many references to himself.
