Summary: Works if you don't need it
Review: I have an intense hatred of this book. I myself am not necessarily all that much of a "positive" person, although I am not overbearingly negative; and I have always found, with Bertrand Russell, that "the idiots of the world are always so sure of themselves while the intelligent ones are so filled with doubts." Peale does not take into account genetics, clinical depression, or any of the other obstacles to being a 'positive' person. And oh, do they get annoying.

Summary: Best of the positive thinking books
Review: Dr. Norman Vincent Peale is the father of the positive thinking book era. This book provides strategies to employ positive thinking. Positive thinking is a tool we can all use to improve our lives. It helps us persist through obstacles and roadblocks, set goals and achieve them. Recently I read Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self which explained the pros and cons of positive and negative thinking (positive thinking has some shortcomings we need to be aware of), how to make the most of (optimize) emotions and every situation. I recommend both of these books.

Summary: Useful Book
Review: A helpful book if applied properly, explains that having belief and faith in GOD and our abilities gives us the strenght to keep on trying til we achieve our goals. An equally good book with excellent explanations and tools on self improvement is (The Magic of Thinking Big). Read that book also!

Summary: Excellent
Review: This book is a good practical guide for Christians. Many of Peale's insights are very deep and wise, and would be of benefit to most people.

I think that Peale should have refrained from trying to 'prove' himself too much, however, as he makes too many appeals to the Bible. After all, it's well and good that Peale highlights verses such as Philippians 4.13: "I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me". But in order for Peale to uphold his view that the Bible is the true source of positive Christian living, he shouldn't refrain from highlighting verses such as Exodus 32:27-29, Deuteronomy 21.18-21, Numbers 15.32-36, or Hosea 13:16. How would these verses fit in with Peale's positive model of life? Just food for thought.

But overall, Peale's message is robust, positive, and sound. Indeed, Wisdom leads us to know that by aligning our thoughts with positivity, (the inherent nature of God), we can know the Truth, and the Truth shall set us free.

Summary: Four Reasons to Buy "The Power of Positive Thinking"
Review: The book: Intrinsically inspiring. Timeless and powerful. The Power of Positive Thinking shines light on the shadows of despair and heightens one's sensibilities to God-given potential. This is the original. It is the mother of all motivational books.

The author: The cornerstone of Peale's "appeal" is his ability to transcend mere psychological and touch the human soul. In doing so, he reaps the reward of the senior statesman of encouragement.

The reason: I recommend this books for the following four reasons:

1. To help others. As only the wise can lead the foolish, so only the motivated can encourage the fainthearted. Read this book-not for yourself alone-but for the lives of those you will touch.

2. To encourage your family. Empower your loved ones by being the leader you were meant to be. Don't tell them how to live, show them.

3. To stimulate your co-workers. It's called synergy. Yawn and the world yawns with you. Invest in a smile, and that smile is reflected in the hearts, minds and faces of those you've inspired. Enlarge your personality with the dynamic of positive thinking, and watch the world follow.

4. To inspire your friends. You are a leader. The question is: what direction are you leading your friends? The Power of Positive Thinking will put you on the right track.

Summary: --->*mysterious TRANSITION*<---
Review: I'm one of the ordinary teens that go out & live life in a typical teen perception (e.g. parties, friends, listenining to music, enjoying youth as it is, etc.) I used to be the type of person who typically never found interests with the ''positive thinking'' category (i was cynical at the time). I read this book one day cause it was lying on top my dad's desk, i was hoping to ''kill time'' by glancing at a few pages. Suddenly, i became attached towards Peale's theories and i began reading from page to page and started applying positive concepts into daily situations (even when ''obstacles'' were bound to hold me back) and mysteriously enough my attitude towards life transformed me into an optimist and a devoted believer in God which in turn, gave me successfull results (especially in my academics!). Hey, you have no need to believe me if you choose too, but I strongly affirm this book WILL alter your mind into becoming a believer with ''The Power of Positive Thinking''. If you're a parent with a stressful life style, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. If you're the hard worker feeling as if you're not getting anywhere, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. If you're a student feeling ''tripped & zoned out'', THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. All the people i've mentioned illustrates the average person bombarded with everyday problems (trust me, i literally live with them), yet the solution lies in front of your eyes because this book draws out supplies of confidence, faith in your own abilities, positive affirmations, and spiritual guidance in YOUR life...hey, i wouldn't just waste time to make this book review and neither would the rest of these people who placed an entry analysis for this book. "Faith power brings miracles.."

Summary: the power of praying
Review: This book learns you techniques for positive thinking, based on belief in God and the techniques of praying. The main message that this book wants to bring to you is that if you want to improve your life, visualize what you want and pray for it.
I know a lot of people who found extra power in this book to fight against the misfortunes of life. If you belief in God and want to explore how praying can improve your life, I can strongly advice this book. But this is where the book stops. A better title for this book would be "the power of praying", or "the power of believe". The word thinking in the title is confusing, thinking is more then praying and believing.

Personally I agree with the fact that the way you think, can influence your life a lot, but it is also important to learn how you should think. Especially, you should learn to take the responsabilities for what you think and how it influences how you feel. This book fails on learning you these consequences of your thinking. And this is essential in order to take the correct actions to improve your life. I certainly agree that belief in God (and pray to God) can help, but you definetely need some additional techniques, not found in this book. Books doing and excellent job here are the following books : "The Resilience Factor: 7 Essential Skills for Overcoming Life's Inevitable Obstacles" by Andrew Shatte, Karen Reivich and
"Your Erroneous Zones" by Wayne Dyer. Remark that these books present techniques independent of your belief in God. I would strongly advice these books. If you are a believer in God, you can buy "The power of Positive thinking" in addition to the books I just mentioned.

I wish everybody a lot of success in the exciting and never ending process of improving your life.

Summary: Not impressed
Review: I bought this book based on the reviews I read. It wasn't what I expected. I felt that the content was something that anyone with common sense would already know. One could also get the same results from going to Church with regard to the advice regarding praising the Lord everyday. The voice of Norman Vincent Peale was also very annoying. It may have been more bearable had they used a professionals voice. His voice was scratchy and crackly. Last of all... It was very short. Not enough content for the price. I'm tossing this CD as Its of no use.
