Rating: Summary: The book I will never finish! Review: My husband received this book as a gift from a pastor friend. He who never reads, read it twice in two days. I picked it up and was caught. I read this in about 45 minutes. I was moved both to laughter and to tears. I immediately ordered 6 copies, one for me and the rest for friends. Tonight I ordered 2 more. I will be reading this book once a week, probably for the rest of my life because I could not absorb it all at once. How encouraging, at the brink of major changes, to be challenged to jump in head first into God's will instead of wading in at my own comfort level. Please buy this book. I believe you will never regret it. Not for the faint of heart though. This is all or nothing.
Rating: Summary: 96 pages from 4 verses?! Review: ...so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying "Do not go beyond what is written."... 1 Corinthians 4:6I am not surprised this book has made it to the top of the Christian sellers list but I am highly disapointed that it has. Wilkinson somehow turned 4 small verses into 96 pages and this means he has added 95.8 pages of his own thoughts. If you are looking for Christian books to read find ones that stick with scripture and do not give you the authors ideas. You cannot write one book about 4 verses because you miss out on what the WHOLE Bible teaches on a subject. In Chronicles, the Bible does not even say whether this prayer by Jabez was a good prayer to pray or not. If you want to know how to pray listen to Jesus in Matthew 6:9-13.
Rating: Summary: The Prayer of Jabez Review: It is true that this prayer is no replacement for inviting the Lord to live in your heart, regular Bible study, prayer and service to others. This little prayer will, however, help you to do more for God. It is a plea to God to "use me". It is not for wimps because God will challenge you to do his bidding. It is sandwiched in the middle of a litany of names. God put it there for a reason. Praying this prayer, we ask God to make us like Jabez...enlarge our sphere of influence....send us those who are hungry for God so that we can share about Jesus and salvation.
Rating: Summary: The Power is Yours Review: First of all I am a New Christian. I am 33 years old and excepted Christ into my heart almost 4 months ago. One day I was driving home from work and heard Dr. Dobbson talking about this book. Well about a week later I ordered it and let me tell you what this little book will change your life. I can not say that I have had life altering things happen to me, but there is one thing that this Little Prayer can do for you and that is call you out of your Comfort Zone. With me just learning God's Word this is not to hard to do, but by using this Little Prayer not only has God called me to witness several times since then, but I am now becoming a Prayer Leader. I know for most of you that might not mean much, but to a person that is seeing Prayers being answered in groves, becoming a Prayer Leader is a scary thing. If you are like me "A Baby Christian" and very excited about Learning and Sharing God's. This Little Prayer will change you and you WILL BECOME the Christian that God has attended us all to be. Eric Miller
Rating: Summary: Prayer is Key Review: This book demonstrates the importance of prayer for spiritual maturity. Prayer unlocks Christs love for us. How amazing that such a small text contains so much vital information. A must read. Also if you like Left Behind read Apocalypse South by Kyle Watson its very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: This book was horrid Review: Speaking as a Christian I find this book absolutely horrid. There is so much read into this passage I'm appalled that any brother of mine would write it let alone read it. This book tries to hard to make a point where there isn't one.
Rating: Summary: It will change you life! Review: This prayer is simple, but very bold. If you pray it daily, the LORD will work incredible things into your life. It changed our lives! God bless, Kevin Kalstad - ourlivesforhim@aol.com
Rating: Summary: The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life Review: The Prayer of Jabez was an accidental find...in the sense that I was not purposely looking for this book. In the sense that GOD intended me to have this book in my hands.....NO Accident. This was a book that I read with hunger and deep-longing once I began. At the time I was a leader for a small group of ladies that would be part of a weekend of spiritual renewal for a group of ladies coming from Europe. As I incorporated my "passion" for this prayer of Jabez into our sessions of training, more and more team members began to read....and we could hardly wait until the next meeting so we could share what we could see GOD doing to "expand our boundaries". I have been reading and praying this prayer since mid-October....and have carefully written down each answer to the prayer as GOD has sent them. It is exciting and humbling to see exactly how much GOD has in store for us if we but ask. HE so much wants HIS kingdom to be expanded and is waiting for us to be a part of the expansion. Asking with a heart that wants to be in HIS hand and blessed indeed is what this is all about. It is not some new "fad" that is sweeping the Church, but a cry from GOD's people..."Here I am LORD, send me." This book and the subsequent prayer are NOT for sissies....you must be prepared to go where you don't feel prepared to go....for you see that is what the prayer of Jabez is all about......Going where only GOD can expand the territory.
Rating: Summary: A Postive and Encouraging Book On Prayer and God's Character Review: As a pastor, normally, I am very cynical about something that becomes popular with the Christian Church at large, but Bruce H. Wilkinson's new book, The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life is a superb work of Biblical interpretation, storytelling and encouragement. I read it through in two hours and immediately bought a copy for everybody on my church's Administrative Board. Do read it critically, as the prayer is no substitute for reading the remainder of the Bible or having a relationship with God through the completed work of Christ, but I believe you will find an understanding of the premise behind the prayer of Jabez just as important as understanding and internalizing the Lord's Prayer.
