Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Compelling, But Hard To Believe Review: This is a compelling book about one of the 20th century's most interesting and unusual men, although the contents of the book are rather far-fetched in some places. To be read for amusement rather than information.

Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: ¿secret life¿ lacks secret spark Review: To my disappointment, I did not find this book all that exciting. I muddled through it at a snail's pace. There isn't really any material presented here that is shocking or invigorating or interesting for that matter. LaVey has some cool individualistic view points but it's mostly just Nietzsche with some icing on top. So maybe real Satanism just isn't as firey as the media represents it. I guess I can live with this.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Disappointing Review: Too little is made of Lavey's uncanny physical similarities to Emperor Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon, and too much is made of his pseudo-intellectual spooky-talk and geographic origins for most. A black mass of disppointment for all but the biggest Lavey fans, I'm afraid.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Detailed biography of one of the great thinkers of our time Review: Yes, Blanche Barton might be biased due to her being a Satanist herself, formerly being employed by LaVey, and mothering one of his children, but "The Secret Life Of A Satanist" still chronicles the life of one of the great modern thinkers and philosophers in shockingly good detail. Serving up not only a fascinating biography of LaVey's life (his work in circuses/carnivals, his ascent into the occult, his affairs with Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, the forming of the Church Of Satan), the book also devotes numerous chapters to LaVey's philosophies on life, society, and the workings of the human mind. An obviously harsh critic, LaVey attacks the population of mainstream society for the brainwashed sheep they are, while proposing numerous solutions to the frustrations of Satanists and free-thinkers who are plagued by society's stupidity. Also a good slap in the face to anyone who has believed Satanism to be a devil-worshipping cult with animal sacrifices and ritual abuse, due to fanatical Christians hyping it up, "The Secret Life Of A Satanist" shows the true beliefs of Satanism, on how worshipping yourself is more important than anything. Any way you cut it, LaVey has saved much of society from the gutter and this book as well as the entire Satanic religion are absolutely necessary to the survival of peoples minds in a world of television worshipping drones. Pick this and "The Satanic Bible" up and open your mind. R.I.P. Anton LaVey. "The world lost a great philosopher and hell gained a new leader."
