Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Engages the Mind Review: Seductive Poison is listed as "Essential Reading" on a British website regarding the upcoming reenactment of the Jonestown Massacres. I stayed up all night reading this haunting memoir, a remarkably gripping account of the life and times of the author and her captor, Jim Jones. The author reveals the interior depths of several vastly different followers and the subtleties of guilt, idealism, innocence and betrayal. With the reenactment of the Jonestown Deaths scheduled for this week in London I hope the International Arts Council plan to educate the living and not exploit the dead.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: WOW! Review: Heard Deborah Layton on the G GOrdon Liddy Show and was she ever impressive. He was right in saying she's courageous to tell this story. The author should not be ashamed of her past--how else do we grow and learn anyway? BRAVO to someone who went through hell and then broke the chains of bondage to explain what happened to her to boring folk like me. Just ordered the book and checked out her website. WOW!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A compelling story of Secrets Review: I found this book to be incredibly powerful. Driven by a secretive mother, the author searches for easy answers in the cult of Peoples Temple. It doesn't matter what the mother's Secret was--it's the effect it had upon the family left in the dark. What made this story so palpable for me is that I have experienced this in my own life. I believe that secrets in a family can make it's members less apt to question motives or search for the truth. We also read THE HUMAN STAIN, by Philip Roth, a compelling novel ALSO about a life built on Secrets. He has always been one of my favorite authors, now I shall add Ms. Layton to my list.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Breathtaking Review: The most abosrbing memoir I have ever read. Any descriptive review on my part would be lame and not do justice to the author. What she has done is magnificent. She took me inside her head, heart and life with Jim Jones. What a gifted writer. What a profound book. Thank you Ms. Layton for trusting us enough to share this intimate part of your life.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Fabulous interview Review: While driving home in the pouring rain I got the shivers while listening to the radio and hearing Deborah Layton talk about her life in the People's Temple. I just ordered the book and can't wait to read it. The interveiw alone made me realize how important Deborah's story is. The book's website is quite interesting.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great goose bump read Review: A really engaging, frightening thriller. The recent tv interview got me interested in this subject. Deborah Layton was elegant, eloquent and beautiful. Proof that the adorable girl next door can be deceived and almost devoured. Seductive Poison tells it all with aplumb.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Moving voice about a difficult subject Review: Imagine being successful at writing this story... Deborah Layton has done a tremendous job. A remarkable story awaits behind the covers of this book. Seducitve Poison is about a great american tragedy and a hero who was heard too late. This book is GREAT READING THE OLD FASHIONED WAY intimate, honest and enduring.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Walk a mile in these shoes! Review: And here I thought I was absolutely and in every way different from those odd-ball folks in Jim Jones group. That's why it came as such an abrupt and rude awakening to see just how close I resembled these folks; how many similarities exist in my life, from childhood, the bible pounding upbringing, our god fearing trek through hell while searching for redemption. I recognized this story in my families experiences. I could have gone the same direction, down the same path. Walk a mile, a year, or easier yet, take an enlightening journey down Deborah Layton's path, into a world of seduction, betrayal, poison and finally redemption. The message I took away from this book is worth the night fright and chills I had to combat until Deborah escaped. This is every man's fear, getting caught-up in something we realize has gone bad. Herein lies God's truth: WE ARE ALL cut from the same cloth, have the same insecurites, fears, hopes and dreams. What this story teaches is that we must all be vigilant against the devil who dresses in sheeps clothing, says all the right things and then promises us the pot of gold at the far end of the rainbow. Oh yeah, and don't plan on wearing Penny Loafers on this trip!
