Summary: Give me liberty or give me death
Review: Whatever you may think of the Jonestown debacle this book sheds a discerning light upon an event which should make every American proud to be living in the land of the free. As a college student I see a frightening proliferation of fringe groups on campus whose sole purpose is to lure us into their way of thinking. When Deborah Layton spoke at my school recently I was struck by how much freedom we take for granted: to think and do as we please, as long as no one is hurt, and how all of that was denied the members of Jim Jones group by his totalitarianism state. There are lessons to be learned by reading this book. I hope it does well. Layton was brave to escape and shows even more courage by stepping onto a campus like mine, where so many of us believe it could never happen to us, and tell her story. It has made me think twice about the choices I make. What she explains so well is how innocence and ignorance combined can be deadly.

Summary: Quite a remarkable book
Review: The impact of this story has only been heightened by the interviews I have seen recently of the author. This book has affected me like no other and I hope others will find it as rewarding.

Summary: Hot Hot Hot, an incredible read
Review: within an hour of starting this book I was heatedly into the story; by the time deborah finds herself a prisoner in Jonestown and a pawn for Jim Jones I was sweating; while she premeditates her escape and the desperate consequences it will have on the mother she must leave behind I was soaked. Keep a a glass of ice cold water near-by--This story reads like a fantastic thriller. Plan on changing your drenched t-shirt mid-way though the book. WOW!

Summary: A story about an Extraordinary girl and unbelievable event
Review: My great aunt was a member of the Peoples Temple and I never understood much about it. Actually, my parents wouldn't talk about it and the incident has become an emormous family secret.I came across this book at the Library, then ordered my own because it is so interesting. It explains alot and takes the ugly shameful stigma I have associated with the event away from those who joined and my auntie. This book helped me understand what happened and I want my children to have access to it so they can see how to protect themsleves from sweet talk'n preacher men or boyfriends. Seductive POISON should be part of our middle and high school children's cirriculum too. I'm grateful the author was willing to tell this very sad but helpful story

Summary: Compelling, insightful, psychological exploration w/ a twist
Review: Deborah Layton provides a different take on our discusions of Cults giving us the first inside look and focus written by both a victim and survivor. I found it educational, unforgettable and the only book which takes the reader on a remarkbale journey into another world. Layton has given back to us, after such a horrifc ending, the Humanity that it began with, innocent kids, hopeful parents, mislead seniors all of whom were believers in a man who would deceive them. Great for book groups, high school education and church discussions.

You have written a meticulous explanation regarding one of the worlds most unimaginable and disturbing events. I hope there is another story in you for I would like to read more.
