The truth of, girls especially, being so caught up in the media's force which then can be said to lead them, if not alreay there, into their own deminision of hell. This includes being so unhappy with yourself that you find mutilating your body the only way to relieve some pain the troubled world has pressed upon you. Read this and wake up. It's happening everywhere, to the people you wouldn't expect.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A waste of time Review: This book is really quite useless if you are trying to learn more about SIB, or trying to understand SIB as a personal phenomenon. It's also a bore just to read. Kettlewell spends too much time on irrelevant navel-gazing (too much even for a memoir, if possible), creating a self-centered adolescent tone that overwhelms the delicate psychology of SIB. This book was obviously thrown together as publishers reconized the growing market for literature about SIB. This book is not many things: it is not typical or representative of normal SIB; it is not revelatory or interesting; it is not mature; it is not useful; it is not worth its time. For the best book on SIB read Strong's "A Bright Red Scream." For the best book containing personal experiences of SIB, read Miller's "Women who Hurt Themselves" or Conterio & Lauder's "Bodily Harm." For another really awful book about SIB, read Levenktron's "Cutting." It's even worse than "Skin Game."
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Couldn't have been more accurate Review: This book is the first book I've read that accurately portrays what it's like being a cutter. I also cut, and I've tried explaining it to my therapist, friends, etc. and they just don't seem to understand it. Kettlewell was able to put into words what I have been unable to say for so long. I saw myself in her words, her thoughts. This is a must-read for anyone: for those who are caught in the world of cutting, it offers comfort in the fact that there IS someone out there who understands it; for family, friends and therapists of those who cut, it offers a deep insight into the thought process behind the cutting. You definitely will not be dissappointed in this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: former cutter Review: this is the best book ive ever read on this subjest! at the beggining of reading this book i was practicing self-mutilation almost 2 to 3 times a day which alarmingly exceeds the average cutter. i was obviously in need of help but could not tell my family about this problem i had, so i turned to reading..i stumbled upon this book at a book store by my home, bought it and read it in about a week. i couldn't believe what i was reading, it was as if caroline kettlewell was inside my mind writing about my life. i was so surprised at how much i could relate to her story. as i finished the book it made me think about my own life and what i was doing to myself and how it was unnecessary. it was not easy for me to quit my cutting, but i did it and i have not hurt myself in almost 4 months now. i am proud of myself for this acomplishment more than anything else ive ever done. if you are a cutter and know you need help, please read this book..i would highly recommend it to anyone, even those that are not self-mutilators! i also wanna note, if caroline kettlewell reads this, i wanna say thank you..you dont know how much you've inspired me and changed my life!
