Summary: Enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable !
Review: One of the most enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable read this year! First Person Plural serves as a beckon of hope for those living with Dissociative Identity Disorder. It provides insight into the inner workings of the dissociated self, while captivating the reader with the reality of day to life as a multiple. In reading this book, I'm reminded of the number of people I've encountered whose behavior, in retrospect, could have been attributed to DID. The homeless woman pushing her cart and engaged in full conversation with an invisible friend; the elder uncle who rambles constantly to an audience of himself. Chances are, at some point, these individuals had some contact with the mental health professionals; I can't help but wonder if they were equipped to recognize the symptoms of DID or did they simply medicate and dismiss without further investigation. Its my hope that by publishing his life experience, West will draw attention to a mental illness that is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. The fact that he is able to work through this condition, perservere to obtain a doctorate in psychology, and write a powerfully candid book is a testament to the strength of the human soul. When wrapped in the cloth of love and acceptance, the human soul is indeed unbreakable. My highest regards to Dr. West, may God bless and care for you and your guys.

Summary: Interesting, but no new information on DID/MPD
Review: Cameron West's autobiography is at times fascinating, but covers much of the same territory as most books about personal experience as a multiple and ends prematurely -- we never learn if he integrated his personalities successfully, for one thing. It is the only book I have seen by a man suffering from this disorder and also a married parent who has to deal with child-rearing and the strains to a marriage caused by the disorder. I hope the movie delves deeper and goes to the conclusion of West's story.

Summary: Cameron's book should be read by Everyone.
Review: I am not big on reading, in fact I barely ever read. I read Cam's book in three days and am reading again. The intro is so vivid it scared me. I was not interested in DID before this book, now I am looking for similar books to learn more about it and hear other peoples experiences. Just read this book!!

Summary: Fabulous!
Review: First Person Plural is absolutely outstanding! I could not put it down. As the significant other of a wonderful woman with DID, I found First Person Plural to be one of the most helpful books I've read on the subject. The majority of 'first person" accounts I have read on the subject were by people who were not in a long-term relationship. It was very valuable to me to see the struggles that Rikki, Cam's wife, faced and how she/they dealt with them. Another extremely valuable portion of the book dealt with "Denial's Rake." This seems to always be a major hurdle in DID therapy, and the innovative way it was dealt with is a tremendous inspiration. I hope that we will be able to use some of the techniques in this book to move toward healing. I strongly recommend this book to all people with loved ones suffering with DID.

Summary: From tears to laughter to tears again!!!
Review: I must honestly say that I haven't finished a book in fifteen years, this one I couldn't put down. Dr. West is an inspiration to all person's diagnosed with DID. I now have a better understanding of this disorder and having a friend with DID I can honestly say that I dont have the ignoracne I once had. Thank You Dr. West for your courage and writing this book. Thank God for "The Comfort Room"

Summary: You'll read it more than once.
Review: This book is important on many levels. A male survivor speaking out on his abuse by a female does not happen often. A male who developed MPD who is willing to speak of it is nothing short of a miracle. Cameron's story is so incredibly told, one can not read it and not be moved by both his honesty and shaken by the emotions it stirs up. I've read it four times, and each time I do, it gets me. The fact that he survived the abuse and the diagnosis is a testament to the strength of this amazing man and author. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could. All the best to him and his recovery.

Summary: Likely the best book I have ever read
Review: This book is fabulous! I'm normally very conservative with awarding stars here at Amazon, but this one deserved all five. It is beautifully and sadly written, heart-wrenching but often humerous - and very likely the best book I have ever read.

Summary: A tribute to the human mind and its ability to protect us
Review: This book will grip you from the first page. Imagine consulting your entire extended family before you choose an ice cream flavour and you begin to get an idea of Cameron West's world. You will run the entire gamut of emotions in the very short time it will take you to read First Person Plural (you won't be able to put it down) and will finish it realising how very disgusting and how very amazing people can be. A standing ovation, too, for Rikki West who is undoubtedly a singular woman. Absorbing, mind-blowing and ultimately readable.

Summary: Wow! I couldn't put it down.
Review: My friends were wondering why I couldn't put this book down - then I finished it and passed it on. What more can I say? Cameron West and his family are survivors. I admire their courage and will keep them all in my prayers. No person, especially a child, should have to experience what young Cam did.
