Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Not the charming, open-hearted autobiography I had hoped for Review: I felt compelled to read Benedict's entire collection after reading an excerpt from "Then We Went Fishing". I found his writing ability and prose style to be very fluid. The flow of the read was comfortable. I enjoyed his writing. Unfortunately, I didn't get the warm, endearing story of life and discovery for which I was hoping. Every time I expected the writer to really open up, he automatically stopped himself and went back to the "mechanics" of his life. I'm sure we're all happy that Mr.Benedict has such self-control and conviction, but this book should have been labled a "diet" manual. I know little now of the wonderful, warm story of his life and up-bringing. I know more than I ever cared to about his diet and libido. I do, however, suggest this book to any man who wants to justify never taking responsibility for his own (sexual) actions since, according to Mr.Benedict, women have all the "power" and "control" in this area of life. I won't ever know if this man ever lived up to his potential in the excerpt I read from "Then we went fishing", I have no desire to find out.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: You can take your life into your own hands. Review: I first read this book after my father was diagnosed with cancer. His reaction to the news was to decide to die which he did in two years' time. Reading 'Kamikaze Cowboy' helped me to realize that the decision was his alone even though it angered me for many years after the fact. Dirk Benedict's courage, both in his effort to heal himself in spite of other people's good intentions and in deciding to share his story with others, inspired me to make some changes in my own life which affected decisions I made when raising my own child. If you don't think you're strong enough to follow your heart, read this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THIS BOOK WILL RAISE YOUR CONSIOUSNESS LEVEL Review: I found this book to be fascinating as well as informative, well written, and easy to read. I am glad that Mr.Benedict not only had the courage and determination to take control of his life but, also I admire his selflessness in writing about his personal experiences so that we may benefit by his example and alter our lifestyles. Mr.Benedict may have been a kamikase cowboy, but after reading his book,I view him more as a modern day Indiana Jones with a machete, cutting a swath through the jungle of the Medical Establishment for us to follow.I thoroughly enjoyed TALES OF A KAMIKASE COWBOY and highly recommend it.YO,DIRK! KEEP WRITING WILL YA!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An interesting read, but from a condescending author... Review: I found this book when I was searching for information on macrobiotics. I thought this would be the story of the whole journey, from his routes through his transformation. Instead, there were only a few references to his youth, telling how Montana was "meat & potatoes" country. The story starts in Hollywood. Through the twelve of so years that were chronicled, Benedict's writing sometimes takes on a condescending tone. He had an "if you don't do what I'm doing, then you're stupid" attitude. This is a dangerous tactic in the art of persuasion as it leads to panic rather than logic. I also felt that many incidents in the book were quite graphic, so if you are looking for a "PG-rated" book, pass on this one. Overall, I think it was an interesting book and it definitely made me think, which is why I have given it four stars. If you can't tolerate a man who is overly opinionated without extracting the facts from his over emotional testimony, then don't read it. If you are looking for a detailed chronicle on the trials of one man to find a better way of life through his eating, then you will want to read this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy Review: I have never been so touched by a book before. The struggles and pain that Mr. Benedict endured seem almost unsurvivable. This is a hard story to read but it must have been even harder to write and almost impossible to live. You may not agree with everything he has to say, you sure know he has earned the right to say it. I am looking forward to part 2.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wonderfully honest journey along life's path... Review: I read Dirk's book many moons ago (and from what I just read happened to the first books printed, must have just made it) and LOVED it. It is rare to find such honesty and openness in Hollywood (especially), and Dirk's splaying is insides (literally) out for everyone to read was/is a great gift to anyone seeking health and wholeness. I always recommend his book to my friends and decided years ago to donate my copy to a charity, in the hope that someone who would not have found it otherwise might stumble upon it and save their or their loved ones' lives. I even wrote to Dirk with some questions, and was pleasantly surprised to get a letter with recommendations back from him. I'm not suggesting you all pummel him with letters, but I suspect he would probably answer them...:-) Thank you Dirk for writing this book, and for anyone wondering if they should read it, the answer is a resounding YES. In Light, Atheria
