Summary: Finding Yourself
Review: This book is a must. After reading this book you'll think it was written just for you. Iyanla opens her soul up and offers what she learned to you. Even though I'm done reading it I keep it out in the open just to be reminded everyday of what she has to say. Its a must for anyone trying to find themselves. Fantastic! Shes one smart lady!

Summary: yuck
Review: i like the chick, i really do. i initially saw her on oprah, all dynamic and inspiring. but, i just couldn't get past the higher power references, which were like every other sentence. i was hoping for more soul work, more generic "insert-your-own- faith-or-lack-of" here attitude, and less god-related-to-soul references. if you are religious, you will love this book, and i would highly recommend it. if not, you may like her initial concept but be put off.

Summary: GREAT INSPIRATION!!
Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend. I waited and waited and waited to get it because she said it was a workbook and I was already doing so many things and had 2 other workbooks in progress that I didn't think I had time for it. Finally, one day I was in a bookstore and the beautiful cover caught my attention. I picked it up and read through the first couple of pages and knew right then that I HAD to buy this book. It has brought so much courage, inspiration and support into my life that I would recommend this book to everyone! Even if you don't think you "need" it, buy it anyway and do the exercises in it. It will open your eyes to almost a whole new world and you learn so much about yourself from it. Iyanla Vanzant is now one of my favorite writers! Happy reading...

Summary: Strengthen your Soul
Review: This book has truly inspired me to open up and look deep into the very pit of my pain, depair, anger, fear, hatred, and depression and emerge triumphant, loving, strong, joyous and caring. When I bought this book I had just initiated my divorce. Although the divorce is still not final after a year, I am better prepared to deal with the emotional rollercoaster my soon to be ex put me through and step off the ride forever. I am able to exam the emotion attached to every situation and master the situation and not let the situation master me. Thanks Iyanla for sharing to tools to Spiritual Strength and Personal Growth.

Summary: Thank you so much!!
Review: When I was in a book store about a month ago the powerful cover of this book grabbed my attention. I picked the book up and opened to the page that begins with the first chapter. I read it for 15 seconds and had tears in my eyes. Right then and there I knew a had to have this book. After reading more of it over the last few weeks I feel better about myself. It made me realize that I'm not the only one out there that woke up one morning feeling my life was horrible. Regardless of people might say this book is a plus for everyone that loves to read.

Summary: disappointed
Review: I wish I could say I found this book as good as its marketing hype. However, when you consider the writings of St. Teresa of Avila and others who are acknowledged to have realized a true union with God, this book seems, quite frankly, insulting. It seems to be a book contrived by a marketing expert who told the author that if she came up with a quick-fix formula for finding God and she would have a best seller. The 40/40 formula seems to actually diminish what I am sure was a sincere journey made by the author to find God.

Summary: A Wonderful Vehicle for a Spiritual Journey
Review: This book is a must if you are on any kind of spiritual journey. I have spent much of my life uncovering the spiritual side of my being and re-establishing my relationship with God. This adventure became particularly intense when I decided to stop dead in my tracks to turn around and discover why the same lessons continued to arise in my life. Throughout this extremely painful period, I kept wishing for some type of "guide book" to lead me through this aspect of my journey. Near the end, I came up on "One Day My Soul Just Opened Up" and I wished that I had found it sooner. Ms. VanZant leads you through a 40 day discovery period where each day a different topic is discussed and pondered upon. These topics include honesty, authenticity, discipline, and fun. As a teacher, Ms. VanZant reminds us of things that we already know and you will find yourself going, "Oh yeah, that's right!" to yourself. You will often find yourself laughing out loud, too. I particularly remember the discussion about authenticity because there is a discussion about farting in public. (And who hasn't done that at least once in their lives, no matter how hard you try not to!)

This book provides a methodical way to approach those spiritual components of ourselves. You read the topic, write about it, and then are asked to revisit it again later in the day. You find that if you read it in the morning, you think about the topic all day, and actually try to incorporate the principle into your life that day. I found myself to be incredibly exhilarated throughout the forty days because I felt like I was really doing something useful for myself. It is almost a year after I went through the forty days, and I still remember much of the book and continue to work on those things which I learned from it.

If you feel lost, do it. If you need a spiritual boost, do it. If you need to reconnect with yourself or God, do it. Trust me, it is worthwhile to go through this 40 day journey.

Summary: Excellent, Powerful!
Review: If your needing guidance, and if you need some kinda assurabnce in your life, this is the perfect book to read. You don't have to go at the pace of 40 days, but you can read and take in all theat she has to offer. It is truthful, and real. It is insightful and full of love and honesty. I thought that she was a wonderful writer after having read In the Meantime. This book is for anyone living in doubt!

Summary: Quit ego tripping
Review: If you are not ready to tap into the deep spiritual issues preventing you from experiencing pure joy, peace, and spiritual awakening, then this is not the book for you. Vanzant offers a spiritual workbook designed to allow you to explore your inner workings over the course of 40 days and 40 nights. Each morning you awaken to a different reading exercise that will require you to explore how that day's principle applies to your life, and to journal it. You then read a short affirmation that you apply to your day, and return in the evening to journal how you were able to incorportate that principle into your life. This book should be a consistent 40 day spiritual journey to be most effective in your life. If you want to just browse through and pick and choose the principles you want to read, I don't believe you will get the full benefit of this book. I have found in my own journey that different issues have emerged each time I refer back to this book. I also suggest that the first time you "do" this book, be sure to write the date you started. You will find the issue that affected you then, will often be diffent from the issues affecting you the second time around as you progressively grow spiritually.

Summary: Becoming the Best You, Without Suffering!
Review: Vanzant doesn't try to fix you, or shame you, or tell you that she has a better way to run your life than you do.

Instead, her loving, powerful words are broken down into passages that are small enough for you to read and use daily. Before you know it, bad habits are dropping away, faith is building, and life just seems to be more in sync with your dreams.

Very Inspiring!
