Summary: Completely Gripping!
Review: I first read this book for a thesis I was doing in Psych class and up until I read this book I thought I had seen/heard and lived through some of the worse things imaginable. But once you start reading this book you sit back and immediately take stock of your life and see that Trudi Chase and her Troops have gone through the worse hell imaginable. I think this book is a must for Psych classes and it wouldn't hurt other people to read this and see the truth behind this brave woman who has over 90+ recorded personalities.

Summary: oh so familar!
Review: To anyone who wants to know what the world of DID is like this book paints a incredable look into the dayly reality of life for a multiple. I am 23 yrs old and have lived with DID my whole life and didn't know it until 2yrs ago. That's when I first read this book (after being diagnosed). Trudddi and the Troops are a remarkable example of the power of the mind. Her story is for those people who want to see past "crazy" and enter the world of the ultimate sanity of the brain. May this book continue to make the connection in others as it has me.

Summary: Triumph over tragedy
Review: I found this book an incredible read. Once I picked up the book, I could not put it down, except when the graphic details got to be too much. I congratulate The Troops for Truddi - - I think they are an awesome bunch who gave her strength and helped her survive, and they illustrate the power of the soul's desire to overcome. Even though I am not a multiple, it helped me understand and have greater compassion for those who are abused.

Summary: Emotional Awakening
Review: When Rabbit Howls is the most powerful emotional awakening I have ever experienced. I recalled many things from my own childhood and old emotions welled up inside me. Never before has a book come to life and wrapped itself around me as this one has. When Rabbit Howls snapped me to attention and awoke all of my senses. I could barely wait to visit the Troops every night when I left my world for theirs, in between the two covers of book. Now that I have finished reading the book, I realize that the Troops live on and there is more to their lives. At this very moment, I wonder what they are doing. The Troops have given me strength to face each new day and I have a better understanding of who I am. My heart is heavy with sorrow for the actual core self of the Troops, a little sleeping angel. This is, without a doubt, the saddest life story I have ever heard about. It's as though the book came to life and I, the reader, became very much a part of what was going on. I wish I knew how the troops are doing today and "Stanley". I never gave it much thought before about people having other selves to live for them because of a sleeping or dead core self. It all makes perfect sense to me now and it explains why I talk to myself sometimes..... I just want to give Truddi Chase and the Troops big hugs! I can not describe to you, the energy I felt, as I read each and every account of the Troops lives. This is one book that I believe everyone should read, there is something in it for everyone, including the outsider. Please let it be known that Truddi Chase and the Troops have accomplished what they have set out to do, they have helped me, a sexually/physically abused self. They will ALWAYS be in my daily thoughts.

Summary: A Very Dull Howl
Review: The writing in Truddi Chase's book is almost unreadable. You would have to be awfully interested in how she perceives herself in order to follow the ins and outs of 92 alters, all reminiscent of made-for-television scripts. The book opens with a screen-play like reportage of a deeply significant conversation at which the author was not present - several such occur in the book. The author also mentions that her mother said she "lies a lot." It ends with her stuffing homegrown maggots up her putative abuser's nose and feeding him tapeworms (provenance not mentioned). In this environment, even though we are told that 20% of children are abused, her accusations of incest take on the character of those in the Salem witch trials. Also annoying is the author's insistent self praise -always in the third person - "the woman" -this tall, willowy blonde has achieved insights given to few mystics, is exceedingly articulate, etc., etc. Ugh.

Summary: Honest - Inspiring Autobiography
Review: Extraordinarily honest, difficult, insightful and inspiring account of a childhood which was a living hell and the courage needed to survive and to keep on living.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Monumentous
Review: This book is one of the few written that can produce almost every emotion imaginable. The horror that Chase lives with daily comes out in every word, and the writing style makes it easy for the reader to understand the life she leads. This book is one of the most powerful I have ever read, and has made a tremendous impact on my life and way of thinking. Definitely a must-read.

Summary: The Only Sane Response to an Insane Situation...
Review: The Human Spirit is resilient and the mind of the child born as Truddi Chase and who became the Troops are pioneers for those who have until recently no voice ... she exposes poignantly the horror, the pain and the marvelous way a mind can protect itself through the creation of many to help cope with the devastation heaped on her by two very deranged people, who called themselves parents. The movie based on the book is Voices Within and does a good job ... but read this book if you or anyone you know is a multiple and/or a survivor of intense and long term abuse. Troops thank you all!

Summary: powerful is an understatement
Review: I read this book back in 1990... it's impact was strong enough, that without having read it since then, I remember not only the title but the details. As a survivor myself, it was difficult to read some parts of the book... but uplifting to see the triumph of the Troops (including Truddi) over their/her personal disaster. It's not for the faint-of-heart, to be sure. It's not for those who get nervous at the thought of something outside their own experience. But it *is* for anyone who ever wondered what it must be like to be a part of a Multiple... Well written, poignantly described. Make sure to keep a tissue handy.

Summary: transcending
Review: The story of Truddi Chase is an extreme example of the harsh truth and the devastating affect of childhood sexual abuse. The impact of the story, the trauma, the damage, and the victim are profound in their reality. The story addresses the aspects of a woman who has experienced an abomination of stress and how she was able to adapt and survive. Her behavior does not reflect a woman who is "crazy" but an image that mirrors the strength, courage, and humility that she engendered. Living within a family, an environment, and a society that ignores and suppresses the issues of gendering, and the separate but pervasive problems of women, did not impede Truddi's ability to stand alone in her fight for freedom. She was not hindered or limited in her capacity to cope, and with the help of The Troops, Truddi was able to go beyond the trauma and create a life that was unobstructed by fear.
