Summary: Wonderful Psychological Portrait
Review: Especially since I declared my major as psychology, books dealing with psychological disorders have fascinated me. This is a true story, a documented case of dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality disorder). It's the actual manuscript that Truddi and her 90+ personalities composed during months of therapy. It is excellent. I thought Sybil was good (and it is, you should read that, too), but I liked WRH even more. I admit, I read it for my psych class. We have to do a book report type thing on a psychology book of our choice. But I felt like I was cheating when I read it and said that I was studying because it really didn't feel like work. Go read this book. It's good, I promise.

Summary: An Emotionally Challenging Look into the Mind of a Multiple
Review: The Troops for Truddi Chase did a remarkable job telling her story and explaining their significance in it. You will undoubtedly find yourself horrified at the cruel, sadistic abuse Truddi Chase experienced as a small child. Becoming emotionally involved in the book will give you a much greater oppurtunity to realize its true meaning and capture its message. The Troops are not trying to elicit pity, nor is this a money-making scheme on the part of the author and publishers. It is an unabashed look inside the mind of a woman, a child, and their 90 roommates. I was moved, not only as a psychiatry student, but as a daughter, a sister, a woman, and a human being.

Summary: good and disturbing reading
Review: This book is one of those that once you start it, you just can not stop reading it. While it is a little hard to follow sometimes, due to the amount of multiplies, it is even more interesting. You can not wait to see what happens next.It is not for the faint of heart, at times it can be quite disturbing. I would love to see a follow up on this book, just to see what is different now for her.

Summary: Enthralling Read
Review: This book was recommended to me by a co-worker of mine over the summer who noticed that I was reading "Sybil", so I bought the book. In my psych class we're required to read a psych autobiography/case study type book and write a paper on it, so since I already had this book I decided to do my report on it. I LOVED it. It seemed like cheating to say I had to study and go read this book because it was so gripping. Once I started I found it hard to stop and I even forgot to highlight. Definitely awesome.

Summary: When Rabbit Howls
Review: Dearest Truddi.......You and your "Troops" are in the minds of everyone who has ever heard your story, or has read your book. We all feel your pain through the words written by the "Troops". To anyone who has not read this book yet, When Rabbit Howls is an amazine trip into the world of mulitplicity and how a person deals with pain and suffering during the most imortant times in ones life. After being a victim of abuse from the ages of 2-16, Truddi deals with this torture by going into a sort of coma and the real Truddi goes into a "sleep" mode for the duration of her adult life. This is where the "Troops" take over. Her mind, unknown to her, splits into 92 very different personalities and end up controlling her every move. The book takes you into the mind of the "Troops" and opens the reader up to the pain and suffering endured by Truddi. If you are ever curious about what Truddi is really like, she was on Oprah a few years ago and her story is amazing. This book is Highly recommended.

Summary: A Wonderful account of tragedy and turmoil!
Review: Truddi Chase has taken a chance (one that has paid off well) in her book "When Rabbit Howls". I personally have to tip my hat to her for examining a traumatical experience that is still kept (sorrowfully) in the back of mainstream society today.

Sad as it may be, too many people still misunderstand Multiple-Personality-Disorder (MPD). It is quite probably the least understood of all of the afflictions that are grouped under the banner of "Depression". Anyone who would stop for a minute and actually look into the number of Depression cases, and MPD in particular, would be shocked to learn the numbers that are medical fact.

Truddi Chase takes the reader along a roller-coaster ride that examines the creation and development of MPD. While there are as many different methods and reasons as to why this happens as there are people afflicted, Truddi examines this in such exquisite detail that is so realistic that it actually holds some fright for the reader. Fright in the manner of thoroughly explaining what goes on in the mind of someone suffering from this, and how it develops from something that too many people believe are events that aren't so terrible.

Mental illness in any form is a tragic thing for anyone to go through. At times, it is hard to determine on whom it is worse - the person suffering, or the person living and dealing with the sufferer. The best way to cope with either situation is to understand the affliction, and this is precisely what Truddi does here. She presents it in a manner that can be understood and appreciated. This is one book that I would recommend everyone read at least once so that at least some basic understanding of this disease can be made, without any of the conclusions that many (unfortunately so) reach when this subject is brought to bear.

Summary: Thanks, Truddi
Review: My spouse is MPD. This book has been my bible for learning, helping me understand, and getting me thru some rough times. I feel like I know the Troops personally. It has inspired me to write my own account of living with MPD. For now, every new member of my family, or friend, gets a copy of Rabbit, as it is the best way I know to tell them. Looking forward to Truddi's new book. An update on the Troops? I hope so. Thanks, Truddi and the Troops. I love ya.

Summary: MPD yes. But also a profound insight into human existence.
Review: I was gripped by this book from cover to cover. You can read the other reviews for MPD relevance and the difficulties of relating to sexual abuse. But I suggest you read the book anyway. Don't worry about sympathy for the authors, but when you have read the book reflect on the troop and their perspective. The "real" world view is that this is a fractured personality, but the troop members do not want to be "cured" or unified because they would lose their individual identities. They would die. They exist in their perception as individuals just as we out here perceive our individuality. Consider, for a while, that you are one personality in a multiple personality. It is hard to tell the difference. Then who is the whole? I'm left with what our society calls God. This book is a beautiful description of one physical entities experience. The experience isn't great, but the generosity and huge commitment is beautiful. I recommend this book to any one with an interest in finding themselves and improving their own experience. A profound and though provoking read. Thank you.

Summary: When Rabbit Howls
Review: I read this book for a thesis I had to do for my psychology class and found it very difficult to limit the amount of information on the book I put into my thesis. The book is written about the life of Trudy Chase as told by her troops. As a very young child she experienced the most greusome form of molestation a child of 2 and 1/2 could ever go through. Well often our minds will do things to prevent insanity from the extreme trama it experiences and one of the things is to create multiple personalities. Which is what happened in Trudy Chase's case, she has over 95 recorded personalities. I think anyone taking psychology whether as a major or as a pre-requisit should read this book. I saw an interview on Oprah with Trudy Chase and her psychiatrist and as the troops changed member's you could see the difference in her. Had her original personality survived the trauma they could have intergrated her personalities into one. Get the book it is a must for psych students!
