Rating: Summary: Eh, all the author's are OK Review: Thought the premise of this book is interesting, that a woman let her 90 plus personalities write a book explaining her condition, the idea is lost in the muck of a confused mind. As the story progesses there is the ocassional shock of the horrible things done to a very young girl by the father but the deatails begin to just meld togeter. By the end of the book I felt less sympathetic for the main character than I should have been, and honestly felt more sympathetic for her daughter, her husband and her therapist. I guess I can't fault Truddi Chase for the lower level of authorship, because her personalities are the ones that are writing for her. Still the book falls short of being truly excelent, just barely.

Rating: Summary: gripping, frightning, but hopeful all in one novel brilliant Review: The troops did such a wonderful job writing this novel...despite differences of opinion between them, the collaberation spoke of their testiment of survival. Their strength and courage in telling their story of abuse so that other will know they're not alone. It gives hope, as well as an unflinching glimpse of what goes on in the world of a multiple, and the horrifying abuse that cause MPD. We got so much from their story...thank you troops. For being voices of so much for those of us who might not know how to use ours, for the hope. We know now that we're not alone in the fight. For that alone, we'll always be greatful.
Rating: Summary: <sniffle> I loved it Review: It isnt something most people would say but I honestly and openly loved this book. It is a very powerful subject. It is one of my favorite books and Truddi, Your awesome and I'm glad you made it as far as you did! -Cassie Schilliger
Rating: Summary: An Incredible Emotional Rollercoaster Review: I don't have much to say that hasn't been said already. This book is so powerful and startling, I read it over a year ago and I still get chills when I think about it or see it on my book shelf. Buy it and read it, you won't be disappointed. But please be in a safe place when you do.
Rating: Summary: Too long and almost unbelievable Review: When I first received the book as a Christmas present I was really excited and started reading it immediately. At first it was quite confusing trying to figure out the style it was written and keep the "troop" in order, but you eventually figure that out. But by the time you figure out what is going on, you are left to drag through pages and pages that don't move the story along. I couldn't finish reading all the book. I did A LOT of skimming towards the end. Although MPD fasinates me, a lot of the story was almost unbelievable: the light bulbs burning out and video equipment messing up? It just sounds too far fetched to me. I would like to see the sessions that were taped and see for myself just what is going on. For everyone who thinks she actually put tapeworms and maggotts into the father at the end needs to read a little closer. It was all a story that one of the troop members was telling the younger tropp members. It was what the wanted to do, but it was just a story.
Rating: Summary: Horrifyingly good Review: I picked this book up at the airport right before my plane was to depart, primarily out of desperation for something to read on a 13 hour flight. Read the whole thing twice on the plane. I've read it maybe ten times since then, and every time it still shocks me. The things Truddi lived through are apalling, and the story of her treatment and recovery (?) fascinating, but perhaps the best parts are the scenes that take place inside her mind. None of the other books or movies I've seen on this subject go into detail about the inner workings of the multiple mind. Watching the Troops interact and care for one another, especially the younger, more vulnerable ones, is an experience one is unlikely to find elsewhere. Definately not for children, but I heartily recommend it to anyone with the constitution to handle this intensely harrowing story. I still have nightmares about it, but if my house was on fire, this book would come with me.
Rating: Summary: She has amazing courage to write this but.... Review: In my personal opinion this is not a healthy book for suvivors of childhood sexual abuse to read. Nor helpful to those with Dissociative Identity Disorder. I found the book to cause flashbacks and increase my PTSD symptoms. I had to stop reading the book. I admire her for putting her story out there...but this book was not for me.
Rating: Summary: what a book! Review: I read the introduction by the psychiatrist who treated Truddi Chase and was completely blown away. First you watch this woman meet the 90+ separate personalities-The Troops- who were born to protect her from the unthinkable experiences that she was forced to endure by her "caretakers". At the same time, you see how "Stanley"-Truddi's therapist- evolved in his own understanding of Multiple Personality Disorder. This particular case matched nothing he had ever read before and yet he knew that he had to remain open and nurturing during this very painful process without the help of a clean-cut rule book to guide him through this journey. This is truly an excellent find! Sometimes this book was a lot to tackle so I had to read it in bits and pieces but oh it was so very worth it.
Rating: Summary: Gripping story line Review: When Rabbit Howls is a gripping, tragic story of abuse. The abuse this child endured is unthinkable. I could not put the book down, I had to see how the story ended. The ending was a bit confusing for me, I don't know if she really went to visit the evil step father as an adult.
