Rating: Summary: HOLLYWOOD BOOK OF DEATH Review: I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. IT IS A FASCINATING LOOK AT HOLLYWOOD OLD AND NEW. IT PROVIDES A LOOK AT MANY WHO DIED BEFORE THEIR TIMES. EVEN PEOPLE I WAS ONLY BARELY FAMILIAR WITH MADE FOR INTERESTING READING. IT SEEMS TO BE VERY WELL RESEARCHED. I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE SECTION WHICH LISTS MANY CEMETARIES AND THOSE WHO ARE BURIED THERE. IT IS WELL ILLUSTRATED AND COMPLETELY READABLE.
Rating: Summary: Lurid tales of the passing of the famous and not so famous Review: If you're interested in the lives and deaths of TV and movie celebrities, this is the book for you. It provides an account of each featured celeb's life and (of course) death no matter how tawdry either the former or latter may be. Suicides, murders, old age, disease, and every other imaginable way the Grim Reaper takes his harvest is here. One will be saddened over the suicides of Freddie Prinz and River Phoenix as well as feel pride over how a real-life cowboy and hero like Buck Jones went to his final roundup rescuing people in real life as he did so many times on film. My only recommendation is that the reader should read only a few pages at a time since the book can prove rather depressing what with seeing the often sad end of so many bright stars.

Rating: Summary: Hollywood Book of Death Review: Some 115 celebrities are covered in this very readable and highly interesting book which details their demise. Deaths from accidents, natural causes, suicide, puzzling ends and dying forgotten are some of the subjects included. Of special interest to both entertainment reseachers and genealogists is the necrology of over 6,000 notables, plus a cemetery guide. As usual, a very competent and useful work from James Robert Parish, for both individuals and libraries.
Rating: Summary: Death of famous stars interesting read Review: The book is an easy read as most of the stories regarding the star's deaths are brief, yet informative. I learned nothing new from this book, most of the information was information I had heard or read in other books, and there weren't as many photos as I would have liked, however, it is still a good book to read if you, like me, are as interested in how a star dies as well as how they lived.
Rating: Summary: Absorbing read! Review: The Hollywood Book of Death is a very compelling book-covering not only the high profile celebrity deaths (River Phoenix, Phil Hartman), but also lesser-known and forgotten stars. Murders, as well as puzzling and accidental deaths, suicides, drug- and alcohol-related, and many notable deaths from natural causes. The appendices are also helpful, providing a very comprehensive necrology of show biz personalities and where they are buried. But it's more than lists. I found reading the individual stories to be very absorbing. I bought the book for my interest in only one or two of the people covered, but found myself drawn in to reading more and more of the interesting and often bizarre tales of Hollywood deaths. Some will be familiar to you, but the author has uncovered even more details of those well publicized cases than you probably knew before. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Not as Bizarre and Sordid as it claims Review: The Hollywood Book of Death is heavily padded with excruciating background that seems lifted from allmovie.com. Strangely, many of the dead actors best work or more interesting aspects of their life are left out. Author James Robert Parish slummed writing this book. Half the book is dedicated to death by natural causes (yawn), while the Murdered, Drugs, Accidents and Suicide sections are stunningly short. I could name another dozen actors to add to each of those categories. Hollywood Book of Death is okay if you are a novice to such trivia.

Rating: Summary: MISTAKE ON THE BACK COVER! Review: The name author's name is spelled slightly incorrectly on the back cover. It says James Robert Par ish". There should be no space between the letters "r" and "i".Another mistake I believe I have uncovered is the way on page 311 the author (Parish) claims that the late John Erik Hexum played a photographer on the series "Cover Up". Actually in that series Hexum played a model!
Rating: Summary: One time read Review: This book had very good information, but purchasing-wise it isn't a smart idea. How many times can you read about how a certain star died?(unless you loan the book to someone) It is well-written and I found it hard to put down, but it was a one-time read.
