Summary: The book was heart wrentching but enlightening.
Review: The book starts with him not knowing whaats going on. His life is none like others told in this manner. It ends in a traditional "happy ending" story type way. Where he finds a home and finally a person to love. But this isn't a ordinary "happy ending" it's one that you'd only want for this kid who has had such a rough time. You'd think no kid deserves this and you feel happines rise in you and fall at high and low points of the book. I'd give it and 8 and a half because I found it so interesting I couldn't put it down. He learns freindship, but looses it in a matter of time, until an inspirational person in his life (Jerome) teaches him life and how to say "I love you". I also found it sad that latter on in his life he says where each person went, obviously a number of people died but the rest never seem to get back together.

Summary: Why do we allow them to cage the animals at night?
Review: Although not the very best grammar, the autobiographical account of life as experienced by Jennings Michael Burch is astounding! As a child currently in foster care and getting ready to age out of the system, I can only thank God for never having the extreme experiences that Jennings had at the hands of the homes he was put in. Simply honest and spellbinding, this book evokes anger at the fact that our child welfare institutions need to be changed, there is simply too much that is wrong! Thank you Mr. Burch for not being afraid to speak out, thank you for sharing your story. Although mine is diferent, albeit equally horrible, you are still an inspiration.

Summary: This was the most fantastic book I have ever read.
Review: I read this book in 8th grade and it gave me an entirely new and more profound outlook on life. The way this story of a boy going through different adoption centers and foster homes was told had me hooked from begining to end. This book engulfed me and showed me how lucky I really am. Read this book , it doesn't matter if you are adopted or not.Trust me it will make you cry and feel as if you were Jennings Michael Burch.

Summary: I READ THIS WHEN I WAS 11YRS, NOW I'M 22.IT HELPED ME GROWUP
Review: I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK BY MY ADOPTED MOTHER. I WAS AT A TENDER AGE, WHERE BIG BOOKS LOOKED UNREADABLE. YET, "THEY CAGE THE ANIMALS AT NIGHT" KEPT ME READING FOR HOURS ON END. I CAN REMEMBER NEVER WANTING TO STOP READING. I WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE EXTREME EMOTIONS AND I USED THE BOOK TO HELP ME WITH MY OWN FEELINGS. YOU SEE I WAS ADOPTED FROM AN ORPHANAGE AT 9 MONTHS OLD (FROM A POOR AREA OF COLOMBIA, SOUTH AMERICA). THIS BOOK SHOWED ME HOW TRULY LUCKY I WAS TO HAVE BEEN ADOPTED INTO A LOVING FAMILY AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE

Summary: A Real Eye-Opener For Teachers
Review: This book gives a whole new way of seeing how we effect children around us. I have read this book and passed it along to many other teacher/counselor/principal friends. It is extremely sad, but sheds new light on what many of our students and children face today. A must-read book!!

Summary: Heartrending story of foster child
Review: This is one of the most powerful books I have ever read, incredibly heart-breaking, but ultimately inspiring. It is the story of Jennings Michael Burch's childhood in and out of foster care. You will remember this book long after you have put it down

Summary: One of the most memorable books I've ever read!
Review: Having read They Cage The Animals at Night over two years ago, you would think I would have forgotten about it, but in no way is that the case. Every moment of the story seems to be etched in my mind, and all the characters perfectly in tact. If you have the chance to meet the author, as I did, you will gain an ever deeper connection with the stories characters. It should be required reading for all ages

Summary: My Favorite Book: A must read
Review: I first heard of this book when i was in the sixth grade. Our teacher read it to the class, we would sit on the carpet and hear a little more of the story each day. It was such n incredible story. For two years i searched to find that book. When i finally found it I bought it right away. I have read it about six times in the last four years. It is such a touching story and always makes me cry. No child should have to deal with the things that Jennings Michael Birch had to go through as a child.

Summary: I read this when I was 13 and it's still one of my favorites
Review: I first read this book when I was 13, I'm now 27, and have read it at least once a year since. It never fails to pull at my heart. When I read this book, I get a horrible pit in my stomach, and I always cry. This is the true story of countless children, and especially since I've become a mother, this story has touched me especially deep. This should be a must read for ANYBODY, but especially to those thinking about adopting or fostering a child. These children have been through so much, and you can't read this book without feeling for them!
