Summary: Not For Me
Review: It is very tiring to read. One story after the other. I wish when publishers thought up books like this that they would consider stories unlike the ones in this book. Stories of average people who have made it. Let's face it, most book lovers are not millionaires and it would be nice to know something about people who are not rich and famous who have been successfull. This is the same old stuff.

Summary: The Book Is For The Pure And Free By The 'Minstrel Girl!'
Review: An outstanding book written by a formidable woman of accomplishments, with caring charitable actions, and whose character of will is something to admire whether you are a critic or fan.

When I hear the 'Minstrel Boy' song lyrics, it reminds me "That Girl" is actually the 'Minstrel Girl.' "Tho' all the world may betray thee, you can count on her to guard your rights by the way her faithful ideals will praise thee!" (Paraphrase Intended).

Although we would prefer to read about Marlo's life, she just reinforces her own beliefs that others are more important with the writing of this book of humor, life, and morals.

The book itself is a great motivator by the inspiration it conveys by real life comments of all who ever had obstacles in their paths to success. A topic that reflects the author's own view of what our society needs at this time.

I often differ on several personal political beliefs and practices with both Marlo and Phil, but I deeply respect the way they advocate their own agenda. No matter how you feel about them in the end they contribute to healthy argumentative debates in a manner that many can learn by their demeanors.

Moreover, it is this kind of debate, the ability to differ, and do so with respect that often makes America better in the end. Marlo Thomas exhibits all these traits and no matter if you agree or disagree with her, you cannot help but respect her.

This book is just another triumph by this exquisite human being who changed America is far more subtle ways that only the very observant can see. More importantly, Marlo did it by never attempting to grandstand or seeking self-credit for public praise. This is a mark of true leader, insightfully intelligent and compassionate person who follows her own ethics, standards, and way of life.

Marlo Thomas could win the Presidency and should consider running. This is the ultimate power couple that compliments each other in so many ways, and not just because of what they have done, but because who they are and how they live their lives.

I highly recommend this book because of the great messages as written by the Marlo Thomas, who only mete out what every person man or woman should become in life. There own person practicing their own principles as they help others in a world that needs so many more of this towering fortitude.

Summary: Wrong Message At The Wrong Time
Review: The message in the book seems to be: "Hi I am Marlo Thomas and I know a lot of rich and successful people. I am going to put most of them in a book and expect you to dig deep down in your pocket and pay for it." Hahahah. I think this book would have been a lot more meaningful to me if the people in it were real, ie, people to whom I could relate to in my life. You don't have to be famous to tell a good story!

Summary: Drivel
Review: I was hoping for inspirational material but the bulk of this "book" is drivel with little if any redeeming value. The essays are written as if to appeal to the masses with no regard to intelligent readers.

Summary: Inspirational fare!
Review: I'm a big believer in vicarious wisdom. I figure, why not learn something from other people's experiences? I was therefore predisposed to like this book in concept, and it really lives up to expectations.

Marlo Thomas has assembled a large, impressive, and diverse cast of characters, and the accounts they share vary enormously. You can read the book in order, or choose to flip from one celebrity's story to another. Some accounts are truly shivery and personal--Billy Crystal's or Ellen DeGeneres's, for instance. Others, like Hillary Clinton's contribution, are no surprise and are in keeping with their writers' public persona. Either way, there's lots to be learned here, and the fact that Ms. Thomas has managed to pull this together (and is donating the proceeds!) is truly impressive.

Summary: Inspiring, Fantastic, A great read!
Review: I loved this book. Marlo Thomas has done it again, this time for adults. It is the perfect example of a celebrity who uses her position to get all of her friends to share their stories and give each of us hope an inspiration. You will see many of your favorite famous people sharing the moments in their lives that have helped them and their stories then help us. The fact that the proceeds are going to a Cancer hospital for children complete the circle to make this book a winner. Marlo doesn't need the attention or the money so she shares with us all of friends' experiences to help us and help children with Cancer. Bravo!

Summary: Free to be You and Me Grows Up
Review: Anybody who grew up with Marlo will love this book about people who really learned how to be "you and me." Imagine a party where the guests are John Leguizamo, Sidney Poitier, Whoopi Goldberg, Toni Morrison, and Rudolph Giuliani. That's what this book is like--having conversations with some really cool people who have some wonderful and relevant stories to tell. Just like being at a party... only you don't have to worry about what to wear!

Summary: What We All Need Now
Review: I just got THE RIGHT WORDS as a present and have not been able to put it down. The wealth of stories Marlo has assembled is breathtaking. I've been touched by each one. More than that, though, I've been touched by the very gift of this book, that my friend would care so much about me as to want to pass on these inspiring stories. I'm going to buy a copy for one of my friends, and perhaps she'll do the same for one of hers. These stories of courage, hope, dignity, and humility are just what we all need. Pass it on.

Summary: The Right Book Will Last A Long Time
Review: This is a really wonderful book--gorgeous and uplifting. The wide range of contributors here makes this a cut above the usual celebrity book that's just "me me me." The stories in here are inspiring, funny, and real. I especially liked Katie Couric's piece about smiling too much. Tell you what, this book will really make you smile. Will make you think too. Thanks That Girl!!!

Summary: Inspirational fare!
Review: I'm a huge fan of vicarious wisdom--if you can learn something from others gone before you, why not? The vignettes shared by the celebrities here are poignant, funny, and rich with personal history. The cast of characters Ms. Thomas has managed to line up is impressive and diverse and there's something for everyone. I'm amazed by the breadth of experiences shared and by the different approaches taken in answer to Ms. Thomas' challenge.

You can read this book end-to-end or you can leaf through it when you need some inspiration (so far Tom Brokaw's story is my favorite!).
