Rating: Summary: Some background info Review: For those who'd like a little background of Fred and want to see some of his writing, you should check out his web-site. I haven't even read the book yet (waiting for my order to arrive) but I've been reading Fred on-line for a year, and his writing style is clear, personal, and very humorous. I am very much looking forward to reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Motivational Review: A real person eating real food, exercising and losing almost 200 pounds! I found this book easy to read as Fred tells it like it is. Very inspirational with his words of wisdom. Forget the fad diets, pills, potions and lotions. Start eating better, exercise and the way you think and the weight will come off. It certainly is helping me!
Rating: Summary: Free your mind, and your ... will follow. Review: I started losing fat in October 2001, and found my way to the online weight-loss community and Fred Anderson's website after he had taken down his archives in the hopes of publishing this book. But Anderson is a legend in that community, and I've been looking forward to this book and avidly following his website's occasional updates since that time. Also since that time, I've lost 115 of the 175 pounds of fat I eventually hope to lose. To be honest, I've been stalled for a while, but after reading this book, I've got my rear back in gear and my head in the right place, the place it was when I started. Fred's adivce is simple: Live like the person you want to be. Think and act like a fit and healthy person, and you will become that person. His no-nonsense, straghtforward style may offend some, but I prefer to see it as a refreshing way of cutting through the bull aimed at the wallets of the overweight by the multi-billion dollar weight-loss industry. You don't need any pills, prepackaged foods, diets, weight-loss plans, magical fat-burning devices, or bariatric surgery to lose weight. You don't (sorry, Fred) need any diet books. I think Fred had a hard time finding a publisher for his book for the simple reason that the diet industry doesn't want to promote a product that will make it obsolete. Fred's descriptions of the difference between his new life as healthy person and his old life at 371 pounds made me cry. Being able to move without pain, to run, to buy clothing at any store, to fit comfortably in theater seats, behind the wheel of his car, in any amusement park ride, in an airplane. To go out in public with his family without feeling as if people were staring. To be able to be an active person, like he was as a child. Here are a couple he didn't mention, but I can vouch for: Being able to sleep on my back without feeling like I'm being suffocated by the weight of the fat on my chest and neck. Being able to properly clean myself after using the toilet, something that was difficult for me at 338 pounds because I had to do contortions to get my arms to reach around my belly. But I'm done crying for the time I wasted. As Fred says, you hit what you aim for. If you think like a fat person, you'll continue to behave like a fat person, doing the same things that got you fat in the first place. If you think of losing fat as a struggle, a battle, or a war, it will be difficult for you. If you think of yourself as a food addict, or on a diet, you're setting yourself up with an excuse for not eating healthily and presupposing a time when you'll be "off" your diet. I choose to think of myself as a healty, active, fit woman, making the food and exercise choices of a a fit woman, easy choices that will last the rest of my life.
Rating: Summary: From Chunk to Hunk: Diary of a Fat Man Review: Being a long time fan of Fred's writing on his website, I was anxious to get his book and hear the story from the beginning. Fred has a great sense of humor and tells things as they are. He makes you think about weightloss in a simpler way, ignoring the fad diets of today. I really enjoyed the book and hope to use it as a tool to remind myself to take better care of myself.
Rating: Summary: This is the REAL weight loss deal. Five stars isn't enough.. Review: Fred Anderson went from being fat (371 pounds) to being "Phat" (a GOOD thing -- 200 pounds) and posted his journey on the Internet for all to enjoy. Fred has a unique wit and enjoyable voice and tells the truth. What he says is insightful and often funny, but he always tell the truth. All the while he takes you step-by-step through 171 pounds of weight loss. Amazing. Weight loss guides are usually geared towards women and women can certainly benefit from this book--but it is refreshing to see a book from a "regular guy" who did so well. The back of the book says, "NO DIETS, NO PILLS, NO BULL." And this guy delivers. I couldn't put the book down. I read it all in one day. Now I need to go back and read it slowly and digest it a little bit at a time. Thanks Fred! You've got a fan in Florida. Robert "Randy" Ragan
Rating: Summary: Not your average weight loss story Review: If you are looking for the latest fad diet, the latest quick fix to shed 10 pounds in 2 hours, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a story of a real man, who made real changes, and became a fit, trim and healthy man, this is DEFINATELY the book for you. Almost immediately he makes a great point - the human mind is an amazing machine, and amazing results will be had when one just sets the mind towards a goal. Get Fred's book now - be amazed by his journey from chunk to hunk - and change your life!!
Rating: Summary: Inspirational and Entertaining - what more could you want? Review: I've been following Fred Anderson's story since finding his original web site well over two years ago. He (and his wife) have opened up my eyes regarding weight loss and I'm eternally grateful. For years I struggled with diets, always ending up heavier than before, until I reached well over 350 pounds. Fred's example and straight-forward advice cleared the fog in my head and allowed me to lose 140 pounds (so far!) and keep it off over a year. I'm still working toward my goal, but finally getting this book (after waiting patiently) will help me as I continue my journey. Thanks Fred (and Robyn) and keep up the good work!
Rating: Summary: Eye-opening and Thought-provoking Review: Fred really moves me as I'm reading. He's just got all these ideas about attitude that i really need to embrace. For one, he constantly envisions himself as ALREADY being at goal, and acts accordingly. Like, he eats well and exercises hard to maintain his healthy and fit body. He really loves himself, there's none of that self-hate that I find in so many diet journals (and see in myself sometimes, too). He's real. For a while there, I felt like he was TOO perfect, that no one is totally immune to cravings. And just as I thought that, his cravings came up to bite him . But really, he's crazy. He's able to dish out the wise, sage-like advice that should come from getting to goal and staying there, BEFORE he's lost all the weight! Simply because he already sees himself as that person. It's an eye-opener and a thought-provoker. As if you couldn't tell, I highly reccommend it. ;P

You can go to his Web site at [website]/ to see before and after pictures and get some great tips, but the years of journal entries have all been taken down. The most important stuff has been saved and it has been edited and made into this wonderful book. Geez, it's a bargain at this price - it's worth 20 times the cost. Rating: Summary: A fun read Review: This book chronicles Fred Anderson's weight loss of 175 pounds without diet, pills, or gimmicks. This book is humorous, fun and informative. The book is peppered throughout with stories about losing weight and some of the things that happened because of it. Some of the stories are quite funny, and the result is very human book that I think will help people think that they can lose weight too.
