Rating: Summary: If your thinking about doing drugs...... Review: This is a great book for anyone to read, but i think should be a manditory reading for all high school aged students. I've been a fan of the show for years now and this book drives home the dangers of addiction. It tells of not only the patients struggle, but Drews as well. Great book, Look forward to another one. Drew I was also wondering where I could pick up a windbreaker and or the home version of Germany or Florida?
Rating: Summary: Delusions of Will Power Review: This is in response to the other reviewer from Oakland. Wake up, fool! Dr. Phil is a charlatan. Your Mom HASN'T been cured of her addiction, and she's in grave danger of relapsing. There is no way to cure yourself on your own. If you had read Dr. Drew's book more carefully, you would have learned that only DR. DREW can cure your Mom's addiction. So you'd better come up with the money for his private treatment program.Bless YOU, Dr. Drew, for a fascinating, heart-rending story. Love your show, too. If I ever get addicted to the cocaine I occasionally use for recreation, I'm gonna check into your clinic.
Rating: Summary: Congratulations! Review: Attn Dr.Drew... Adam Carolla may never realize his dream of ruling the world but if yours is to help people than mission accomplished. The Loveline show, this book and your previous one are great deeds from a good man.Thank you. P.S. I gave the book 2 stars just so you would read the review.Try not to get hung up on those low reviews so much! You know what you're doing. They'll catch up when they're ready.
Rating: Summary: Compassion is His Middle Name Review: I would like to thank Dr. Drew for this intimate portrayal into the his daily line of work. He is a man that has so much empathy and compassion for human life. Even though the stories aren't based on actual events, these events happen all the time. I knew and knew heroine addicts who suffered from this illness, who didn't decide to do something about it until it was too late. Dr. Drew does a wonderful job of explaining to the common person about what a junkie goes through and has gone through. The thing most people don't realize about addiction is that it is an actual illness just as AIDS, influenza, and Parkinson's disease are. Thank you Dr. Drew for this look into this controversial subject and what you have to deal with daily.
Rating: Summary: Loveline Review: Love the book Love the Show Can you ask Adam this?? If you are literaly a millionaire Why do you suffer through California heat waves without central air??
Rating: Summary: Touched, moved, and inspired... Review: Thank you Dr.Drew for this intimate portrayal of your feelings during each process of treating your patients. This book is well written, easy to read, direct, and honest. It has given me a better and more put together understanding of the psychology behind addictive behavior. Having been involved with abused women myself, I was moved throughout the book to see that my feelings were so similar to yours during the treatment of your patients(most of whom are abused women in the book). The horrible feeling of knowing how long gone the innocence is in these women and my wish for them to acknowledge me, as well as people in general and so on. I struggle with these feelings and become sad and angry. This book helped me understand why people who have survived abuse don't seem to display empathy. If there's one thing that I got from your book, it is the ever importance of a human being to connect with other people and the role it plays in the emotional development of the self and the brain. Your sincerity and openness of your feelings is inspiring for me and people in general to be the same way in our lives. Thank you Dr.Drew. p.s. I called the show when DAG was last in, and you guys took me seriously and didn't goof on me. Want to say thank you for that.
Rating: Summary: Your book is awesome Review: I couldn't really think of an appropriate title of this review, but I would like to say that ive read your book and it was quite influential. But, the real reason I wrote this review is to ask you a favor. I listen to love line and I've heard that listeners communicate Germany or Florida questions to you through Amazon reviews. I don't have a Germany or Florida but I still hope you read this review. The favor I'd like to ask is that will you please tell Adam to stop making fun of Hawaiians. I happen to be one and although we might be a "sturdy breed" we are also intellectuals. I was listening a few nights ago and I heard comments about not being able to comprehend weather...? Thats all I ask, I hope you read this review. Thanks for you help.
Rating: Summary: Deal with it!!!!!!!! Review: This book is exemplary! I've read it twice, highlighted, and reflected. Just tonight I passed my copy on to a friend. Dr. Drew shares with us piece of his life that not many have known or could understand. He explains the biology of addictions and how they can tear your life apart. This book is for anyone who has struggled against addiction, has known anyone who has, or anyone who aimlessly stumbles through our pop culture. I'm a twenty-five year old woman, a college student (not Jr. College) and avid loveline listener. I myself have suffered through depression and addiction. Your (Dr.Drew) book gave me an opportunity to look at and connect with my therapist on a different level; I can see a little more clearly where he may be coming from, and how he may interpret my actions. It's also spawned some great discussions, not only with my therapist but friends as well. I actually have written a paper on "Cracked". I've seen several Dr.'s and it's refreshing and exciting to see one that is so dedicated to their work, as you are. It is easy to feel a connection with this book, because Dr. Drew so easy to connect with. I found myself wanting to be saved by the good Dr., because he so eagerly offers salvation. All the stories are captivating, but Amber's story knocked the wind out of me. I wonder sometimes how you can muster the energy and optimism for the upcoming day. What I also wonder is, in your book and on the radio, there is always a catalyst, a reason for the addiction, messed up family's, abuse, neglect. I've looked high and low and I can't find mine, what took me to where I was. Can nature take its effect without its cause? I realize this is only the case for most addicts and if I where on the radio Adam would pry till I admitted my biological dad the cokehead left when I was born and my step dad was a bible thumper, that raped me. Ps. my mom eats xanex for breakfast. But honestly it's not like that. This is just a subject I find enthralling, human nature is so baffling, and "Cracked" reinforces that. I'm writing this directed towards Drew because I know he actually reads these. I hope you know how well you understand people, and how good it feels when it finally "clicks". Thank you.
Rating: Summary: response Review: A response to the person that complained about not being told how to cure addiction. Curing addiction is not a process, it's an art. Doctors do not know exactly what will solve the problem every time, they use tested methods and see what works. Sometimes, the finishing touch is something never tried before, so the question, "How do we cure addiction?" is not a fair one, there is no definate answer. Another response is that, this book is not a how to. It never says that it will tell you how to cure addiction. The main purpose of this book seems to be to inform people about addiction and addicts, to tell us about Dr. Drew's job. It is a brilliant eye opener; I learned tons about addiction problems, and the heredity of it all. This book is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I found the book to be quite informative and enjoyable. It was easy to read and very real. Both of my parents were drug adicts and this book allowed be to understand their past and biology better. My psychiatrist read the book and she also loved the book. It's a great book for all levels of understanding.
