Rating: Summary: Delightful! Review: I am a nightly listener of Drew and Adam and pre-ordered Cracked. I read it immediately. I am reading it for the second time now. It is a great insight into the life of addicts as they struggle through recovery and the people there to help facilitate recovery. I admire Dr. Drew and consider him my guru. As for the Hawaians. Come on what was said was in fun. Adam makes fun of everyone. I have been listening since 1995 and I think he has managed to offend equally all groups on the planet. I am surprised it has taken so long to get to the Hawaians. Quit this silliness! This is Stacey for Adam and Dr. Drew sahing "Mahalo"
Rating: Summary: Wont buy book.... Review: Drew along with Adam did not treat Hawaii with respect on Love Line (radio show), therefore I am not going to purchase this book. It is truly a shame.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!!! Review: I read this book in one day it was so good. It was wonderfully written and very interesting. It was nice to get a deeper insight into Dr. Drew's perspectives on his work and addiction. Thank you Dr. Drew, you inspire me everyday through all the work you do to work towards what I want to do in life: work in a psychiatric hospital or with C.D. patients.

Rating: Summary: Cracked Truly Magnificent Review: This book is possibly one of the most well-written books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Dr. Drew (Drew Pinksy) offers a first person view into what it is like dealing with addicts everyday, and does not disappoint. Not only does he discuss the reasons why these people struggle, but also discusses the sometimes life long process to make them better. He brings to the table so much wisdom of his profession and compassion in doing what he does, that it is truly heart warming to hear about the tales of his everyday life. In it are the tales of his patients withdraws, their anger problems, their abuse, and their recovery. Drew has poured his absolute soul into this book, and has created an outstanding array of emotions of heartbreak and hope. I have been listening to Drew for over two years on LoveLine and he has never failed to answer a question that has been thrown at him yet. He is very inspiring, and though I may never have the pleasure of meeting him, I will be forever in awe of his work. Everyone, go out and buy this book...It is truly a work of art, and a milestone in the World-Wide understanding and view on addiction medicine.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read AND an Important Work Review: A little background on me and a true story: Eight years ago I was file clerk in the medical records department of a hospital, working the graveyard shift and listening to LoveLine on the radio. I was also a daily pot smoker at the time and consumed whatever else I got my hands on when the opportunity presented itself. I found Dr. Drew to be uptight, dry, conservative and opinionated, but I also found Adam to be hysterical and the show to be entertaining enough to keep me listening. Eventually the reality that Dr. Drew presented night after night broke through my defenses and I got my act together. Now, eight years later, I'm proud to be working to help others with their addictions and other mental health problems. Dr. Pinsky is fighting the good fight in his radio show and through his other media ventures. Is this book a GREAT book? No, not great by literary standards, I suppose. But very good. And very readable. And, most critically, it is an important book. Dr. Pinsky describes in interviews how he turned the corner on this project when he let himself really pour his heart into it. And it shows. It is a labor of love, and I applaud his effort. And, the show continues to be very entertaining. Adam is still very funny night after night. It's hard to know how many people have been positively affected by the show, but I suspect it's a much larger number than anyone suspects. I hope Adam and Dr. Drew continue on and are not tempted away by other projects and opportunities that will certainly arise.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly engaging! Review: This is a very important book that should be read by all. It imparts profound insight into human nature. Reading "Cracked" gives a greater understanding and empathetic view of those who have suffered childhood trauma and the ramifications on their adult lives. Considering that 1 in 4 Americans have been exposed to sexual abuse as children and countless more have suffered other forms of trauma, it would behoove us all to strive to gain a greater understanding of the repercussions that ensue. Undoubtedly, we deal with trauma survivors on a daily basis, often without knowledge as to why they behave the way we do. Reading "Cracked" will help us deal more understandingly with our fellow man.
Rating: Summary: THis book is not just for addicts Review: I originally bought this book because I love Loveline. Upon reading the book I realized that this book allowed for me to make connections for the psychosocial reasons that I am a "rescuer". As much as my husband is like Adam I am like Drew. I have no doubt why this pair is so successful. I have my own version of the "man with the red crosses in his eyes" and through my education in human services and now seeking a Master in human development and gerontology have been able to develop & refine my rescuer tendencies into a constructive manner.
Rating: Summary: Not about Addiction/Compulsive behavior Review: A good read about Drew and his experiences working in Rehab. After listening to Love Line I was expecting more clinical information but it seemed Drew avoided doing this in an effort to make the book more approachable? So instead of learning about addiction and compulsive behavior directly, we learn about it indirectly through the stories of Drew's patients and his own co-dependent pathology.
