Summary: A Wonderful Shared Experience
Review: I would be willing to bet that the reviwers of Dr. Drew's book that claim it to be not worthwhile are the ones who haven't dealth with abuse or addiction (or possibly they are dealing with it now and lash out with hate because of denial). I myself haven't dealt with direct abuse, but I have dealt with addiction in my family. After reading Dr. Drew's book I came to understand many things that had happened in my life and other's that I know, with a far better grasp. Things were clearer and I wasn't as secretly angry. Plus, I also feel that my general intelligence about addiction has improved and I am dealing with everyday life around me (retaining to addiction/abuse, and maybe more) more appropriately.

Dr. Drew doesn't just explain addiction and the behaviors in relation to it like an essay or as if he is a scholar. He explains it like a human being, who has had a life filled with addicts. This is his choice of course, by career, and it is the exact reason why his words (whether written or spoken) are so easily related too, and relatable to other's lives.

Dr. Drew, seriously, thank you for this remarkable of a book. I can only give the highest recommendation to any who have had to deal with abuse/addiction, are dealing with it now, or are going down that path themselves.

Summary: It is good dammit!!
Review: Response for Drew on some of the bad reviews:

Drew you have a good soul, just take a moment a breath and tell yourself that. I know sometimes you feel like Atlas, (The guy that has the world on his shoulders, Greek mythology, for the loveline callers.) sometimes, but you just have to have a little confidence in yourself, and do what you think is right. I know it is hard hearing critical comments, especially about what comes from the heart. I know, I am a stand up comedian and everybody thinks I suck.

I just have this to say:

Thank you.

Thomas Pickett

PS: This book is great and gives great insight into human behavior patterns and trauma.

Summary: Cracked:Putting Broken Lives Together Again
Review: First i have to say, Dr.Drew, i know you read these and though im only 15 years old, i understood everything you tryed to bring out, and you have inspired me to go into psycholoy and biology because i wanrt to help people liek you.
The first thingt id like to say is Dr. Drew tells people about addiction in such an easy way for people to understand, using views that we in the outside world(non-addicts)would have. All of you people that are shooting this book down are just some of the people that you are trying to just deny addiction for what it is. Now i will say this, there will always be people who dislike books, but the point is that you have to look at what he is trying to pull out of it and not what YOU want to pull out of it.
Now my second point is that they say that Dr,drew is mean to his patients and mean to the peolpe on teh radio, but on teh radio it gives no time for that bond that Dr.Drew forms with his patients, and mostly, no offese to Adam, but he does most of the brutalizing.
And lastly, id like to just say that i found this book SOO extremly insightful. I know that it is hard for addicts to come to term with their diese and the point is that to get better, which they cannot do alone, they need people who will help them threw it.(and to fit a little thing in here for the unrashanal people who say that the prodjects and programs he says to attend in the book that are over priced, is EXACTLY what he was yelling and angry about it the book, that many insurance companies and people DONT care if they get better or not and WONT pay for their treatment!). Finally, this book was great and all my friends have read it and we all love it!

Summary: A survival guide to addiction
Review: First off I'd like to set the record straight about something. Addiction is a disease, plain and simple. And like any other disease it can't be cured by reading a book. Anyone who reads this book and feels like they didn't get the answers they wanted shouldn't blame the Dr. Drew. This book is more like a survival guide then a self help book. Dr. Drew gives you different paths to walk down, but it is up to you as the reader to take the paths.

I grew up with one parent and two siblings with abuse problems. In my aingst, I always thought they were selfish people who didn't care how much they hurt people(especially loved ones). But through support groups and actually taking part in the recovery of my parent, I learned that nothing could have been further from the truth. Cracked takes a look at recovery the same ways I had to. It was like reading directly from my life.

Although I still have two siblings struggling with their own recovery, I have more respect for them and the struggles they still have to endure. Like me, they are only human and like all humans they have problems they must overcome. It will take more then a book to overcome them, but sometimes a book can be a good part of the whole that is the process of recovery.

Now Dr. Drew, If you are reading this, don't beat yourself up over a few bad reader reviews. I know that they can be distracting but you didn't become well known because of your short-comings, you became well known because of the range of people you've helped and people you haven't helped yet.

Summary: Reality for the intelliegent people
Review: I want to start out by saying that I have been listening to loveline sense I was 11 years old, and if it wasnt for Drew and Adam I would be no where near as educated about real life as I am today, and when I learned that Drew had come out with a book I knew that it was a dream come true, especally sense there is only so much that can be talked about on loveline, espesially sense it takes so long to get there listners to understand what it is that they are trying to tell them, which i believe is part of the reason why Adam put's everything in a joking form, as in to try and get across to these people who's minds have been so badly damaged by the sick and cruel things that happen to them in life, especially in childhood. If it wasnt for Adam and Drew there would be no real understanding amongst the common populous about how common, and disturbing this sexual, mental and physical abuse truly is to children, and how when it is left unchecked it is like a plague that moves across almost all those that are connected to that family.

Aside from all the great things that Adam and Drew have done on loveline, this book is just as helpfull in the education of our society in this obviously unknown and potentually dangerous sickness, that someday may be the equivelent to an epademic, and if that day were to ever come loveline and Cracked will be one of the only few things that will help us and guide us to our salvation, in a manner of speaking, and like many pioneer's and artists before them Adam and Drew will not be truly respected for what they are doing and saying until people have no other choice but to sit up and pay attention to the reality of it all, but until then they will continue to inspire people like me into trying to inform the populous of the reality of all this, but most of all to try and end it. Our knowledge of the human psyci is so vast now that there is no real excuse for there being so many victums and vitumisers.

Drew, your book is probably one, if not "the" most informative book on how adiction works, starts and can be over come, and anyone who would say that your book has no worth or information is a fool, and in my openion is part of the reason why the populous is so uninformend to these problems, and why it is continuing to grow, instead of being better understood and put to a minimum.

Drew, Adam you are an insperation to many, and even though you dont hear them very often, know that we are here, and know that there are more that will be out there the more you continue to try.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: Dr. Drew I know you read these reviews and I just want to say that I think you are very knowledgeable. You seem to know a lot about everything and you should listen to Adam and not pay attention to the crappy reviews!

Anyway, I have been through the whole addiction process and this book really gives people a good picture of what it is like. It helped me through some hard times and I think that everyone should read it! I even gave it out to my friends to read.

Dr. Drew is the man and this book is one of my favorites!

Summary: great book... very informative
Review: dr. drew, your book has been most helpful to me in understanding the wiring of an addict. sometimes a little too real. thanks for writing such an informative piece on such a taboo subject. don't be discouraged by those people who take this opportunity to argumentatively make it all about themselves. some people just can't be reached.
ps; please tell adam that not everyone in florida is a wack-job.

Summary: hard to put down
Review: This is truly one of those hard to put down once you have started books. A tell all about life and how difficult it can be at times. The struggles to remain feeling as though you are normal, when in actuality is farthest from the truth. This Memoir feeling book rates up there with Nightares Echo (another hard to put down, courageous),Fractured Life (hollywood at its worst at times) and Bastard out Of Carolina (a hard life in the south)
