Summary: You will be missing out if you don't read Cracked
Review: LOVED IT. I had this book shipped to me from Amazon after hearing about it on Loveline. It arrived late last week and I finished it this weekend. It was wonderful!
I've always loved to listen to Loveline on the air. I am a big fan of Dr. Drew and Adam, and find that what they do is critical for their target population. I am well above the age of the average Loveline listener, but I work with the families and children who have experienced trauma through my employment with Child Protective Services. What Drew writes about in Cracked is so incredibly accurate. Cracked gave me another view of the people I have come to know through my ten years with CPS. It also gave me a fresh perspective, and that's never a bad thing.
I am continually impressed by the warmth and compassion of Dr. Drew and am thankful he chooses to spend his time with the people who so dearly need someone to connect to. I firmly believe that this book will also connect with many individuals. Well done, and keep the faith!

Summary: Thanks for People Like Dr. Drew...
Review: This book has certainly made an impact on my life. Addiction is ever present in my family. Everyday my family and I live with the concequences of my dad's addictions. Dr. Drew really gave me a new outlook to the disease and a realization that being the person to help the addicts is just as difficult as the addict or their families. It really is a group effort. And I am so grateful that people like Dr. Drew are here to educate and treat the public about things such as addiction. Although it may not be the greatest literary project on the earth, the message it carries has the greatest impact.

Summary: Radio show host shines in major book debut!
Review: After reading many reviews I have some conclusions-no book, song, movie, play, show or any other vehicle for conveying a way to live has the ability to "make" someone better. All any of these can hope to do is to provide inspiration to the reader/viewer/listener. On this level Dr Drew's book is a success. He conveys what it like to be on both sides of the addict fence. This gives the reader the ability to empathize regardless of their past, whether they are a recovering addict or someone who knows one. This book contains a plethora of useful information ranging from why users use to how one's history is relevant to ones present. Did this book inspire me? A resounding yes! I, like Drew, would like to make everyone better, and this book has reminded me that the real part of helping is being there for others. They may or may not get it, but give them the inspiration so that they may have a chance.

Summary: Dr. Drew Is Pure Genius
Review: People who rate this book anything less than 4 stars just simply don't understand the point of this book. Drew helped me understand addictions and what they can do to people and their families. This book has the ability to save many lives and help people cope with their problems, I know it's helped me. If anyone knows someone who is an addict or you are an addict yourself, then I strongly suggest you read this book. The fact of the matter is that Dr. Drew is a genius, of course, he learned from the best, Adam Carolla.

Summary: Love Dr. Drew, sorta liked the book.
Review: As a longtime Loveline listener (for close to ten years, and I'm getting to the point where most of the callers are half my age!), I've come to have something like awe for the understanding Dr. Drew has about addiction--especially since he isn't an addict himself.

He blows me away when he can pinpoint someone's childhood trauma through a minute of conversation with them. Sometimes, the clarity with which he illustrates the cause-and-effect of abuse and abberrant behavior gives me goosebumps (and makes me feel sad for the society we live in, but that's another story...)

Sadly, though, as much as I wanted to love this book, I couldn't. And frankly, I blame Dr. Drew's co-author (I hate to use the word ghostwriter). The device of creating composite characters was, I understand, necessary, but many of their details seem faked, stagey and shallow. The dialogue is stiff and oddly amateurish, and the segues from dialogue to exposition to what I consider to be the real meat of the book (Dr. Drew's inner struggles with a type of codependency) are just plain bad.

You can almost see the way the book was synthesized, and how the co-author took what Drew gave him and tried to weave it into a narrative. I wish it had been more seamless, though. There's a gaffe that illustrates this on page 209). In it, Drew & Adam are talking to a Loveline caller, when suddenly Drew is referred to not as "I", but as "Drew". Obviously the editor missed that one! I really wish the parts of the book that didn't come from Drew himself had been crafted with more care.

Dr. Drew has an uncanny way of portraying the mind of an addict. As someone with almost 8 years of sobriety, I know this firsthand. I used to listen to Loveline when I was using, and I hated when he talked about addiction (denial, anyone?). But Drew, if you're reading, keep talking. Keep writing, too. And most of all, keep caring. You ARE making a difference.

Summary: Life is About Connections
Review: This is an excellent book for people who have experienced the wrath of addiction, or for those who are curious to learn more about what influences a person to become an addict. Dr. Drew integrates the stories of a few of his patients with his experiences and struggles treating them. He constantly questions whether or not he does enough. As a seven year listener of Loveline the radio show, it was interesting to learn more about Dr. Drew and his life. His sincerity shows through in his writing. The concept of personal connection in recovery is important to him, and I agree. The book also offers hope for those of us who have experienced severe trauma, and other difficulties, and whom find it close to impossible to trust others. There really is hope, it just takes a lot of time, patience, and finding a connection.

Summary: Excellent work by Dr Drew
Review: I loved this book! Dr Drew is my role model and I greatly admire what he does. This book gave me a glimpse into his daily life and struggles. You get to see a side of Drew you never even knew existed, the human side. The stories told in Drew's book are, I think, sad ones but shows the seriousness addiction and how our society faces it such a nonchalant way.

I was lucky enough to get my book signed by Dr Drew at U of U and will forever remember meeting him. If you are still reading these reviews Drew give me an email would you? I have a story I wish to share with you. justinamorris@hotmail.com

Summary: DR DREW IS IN THE HIZZY!!
Review: I am here again praising Dr Drews book and putting down the people hwo didn't like it. What is with all these people who claim to be Loveline listeners but are bad mouthing Dr Drew's book? This book is not just a book but a piece of art and I think people should respect the tremendous work Dr Drew does for people. If someone is a Loveline listener then I do not se ehow they could not like this book, it is one of my favorite and one of my friends favorites. Shame on the people who don't respect what he is doing.

Way to go Drew this book is awesome, keep doing what your doing!
Can u mention me on loveline this is the 3rd review I have posted.

Summary: Dr.Drew at his best.
Review: What's wrong with everyone, how could they say this isn't a good book. Especially the person who is a loveline caller how could he call himself that saying all those things about Drew. I've listened to loveline almost every night for about a year
and a half and have listened to many calls similar to what Dr.Drew is writing about but these calls usually last under 5 minutes and you do not know what happens to them or if they even listened to what Adam and Drew have to say. This book is great because it goes in depth the problems of addiction, what can really go wrong, and the long proccess of recovery. This book inspired me to help my friends, which some are on drugs and to encourage people to read this book if you haven't already. In conclusion this book is extremly informative and inspirational and I encourage evryone to read it.

P.S. Dr drew can you mention me on loveline when you read this, this is the second review I have posted and I hope people are listening.
Good times!
