Rating: Summary: True honesty - extremely well written Review: This story was overwhelming. The initial 150 pages grab your attention with the honest rememberance of James' initial pain and suffering in his quest to become sober. The strength of this individual is only equal to the sincerety of his story. The remainder of the book is a total quest for friendship and truth. The book is a MUST READ - A million little pieces is one complete piece of masterful reading.
Rating: Summary: Unrelentingly honest and addictive. Review: Yesterday was a beautiful day. A new Spring day that should have been spent outdoors. With every intention of enjoying a book with my morning coffee and then heading out into the sunlight, I picked up A Million Little Pieces and at 1:30 this morning, still in my pajamas from the night before, I put the book down. Finished. James Frey's style, though unconventional, was masterful in its ability to draw me in and render me completely helpless to stop reading. At times I found myself reading at a pace that was uncomfortable. Too fast. My heart was racing. And then I'd pause and realize that I was feeling exactly how James must have felt and exactly how he intended me to feel. The period of addiction is honest and horrifying. It broke my heart and made me sick to my stomach. The recovery is equally unpleasant. But despite the horrible things that James admitted doing while he was using, fundamentally he seems to be a person with tremendous love who can forge very strong relationships with other people but has no idea how to love himself. Because of this trait, you want to like him in spite of his flaws. In his book, James does not ask for our forgiveness or understanding. He doesn't seem to need it. He does not blame others for his failures, he does not pinpoint some event in his past that made him what he became and he does not ask anyone to feel sorry for him. He simply tells an honest story, and he does it wonderfully. You must read this book (but be sure you don't have anything else to do that day).
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: I am an avid reader and this is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review. This book is hopeful, disturbing, thought provoking and absolutely impossible to put down. Mr. Frey finds a way to give the thought process behind addiction and recovery without sensationalizing the process. When I bought A MILLION LITTLE PIECES I never thought I would come away from it feeling inspired, which is exactly what I did. could not put this book down and have recommended it to 10 friends who all loved it or are in the process of loving it.
Rating: Summary: Beauty is truth, truth beauty Review: There is no better way to tell this story--Frey comes completely clean with us. The tone is set convincingly in the books first pages as Frey delivers his visceral opening chorus. And candor is the glue that holds the reader through Frey's brutal reincarnation. To be sure, there is much more to this book than honesty. Many of the people Frey introduces us to evoke a condition that surfaces only when the day-to-day of life comes to a boil. And our window into the evolution of Frey's spirituality is wide open. But it is Frey's honesty that is so very new here, so very important. I would recommend this book to anyone who has wanted to change their lives for the better.
Rating: Summary: Compelling! Review: This is absolutely the best book I have read it quite a while. It grabbed me from the very first page and I could not put it down. It is a rollercoaster of a read... both terrifying and exhilarating. I have worked in the field of addictions for many years and this book gets it!
Rating: Summary: Non-Review Review: I was going to buy this book based on some critical praise I've heard rumbling around in various newspapers and magazines, but after reading interviews with the author, I am not so sure. He seems to confuse masculinity with megolmania. If he was such a great writer and such a "man" why does he have to mouth off like a 17 year old High School football jock in interviews? Anyone that has confidence in the quality of their work would be fine letting the work speak for itself, but James Frey is obviously more than a little lacking in self-esteem. I have a feeling when the "greatest writer" of my generation comes around (I'm 28), he won't be announcing it over a loudspeaker in the media. He'll quietly go about creating great work, and will be rewarded.
Rating: Summary: An Incredibly Powerful Novel Review: It is rare that an author's prose can take you by the arm and propel you so fiercely, yet vividly through such an horrific and moving experience. The powerful imagery and storytelling surges through you as you accompany the author on his quest for sobriety and sanity. The grip on your arm will let up occasionally to allow you to catch your breath, perhaps laugh out loud, but then it will tighten again like a vice and make you want to cry or recoil in terror. This is as close as I ever want to get to such a brutal, and explosive rehabilitation, but I'm glad I got to experience it with author James Frey. Buy this book today.

Rating: Summary: this book rocks! Review: finally, someone with a life story actually interesting enough to merit a memoir, and a writing style -- bursting with energy and poetry -- that lives up to the life it describes. a million little pieces is a book that makes you think without being a book for so-called thinking people. it pulls you so uncomfortably close to its unimaginable world that it may be too much for those who like their books to keep them at a distance. but those who make it through, buoyed by frey's visceral, kinetic prose, will be rewarded by a heartfelt yet unsentimental tribute to one man's basic ability to survive on his own terms.
Rating: Summary: ***** (5 + 5 = 10) Review: A straight shot from a very real voice. Anyone with their own approach to anything in their own lives will value this Story. Don't even consider not reading this book. ...
